Anyone Joomla! Besides Me?
I have recently discovered the wonders of Joomla! and I can't stop. I get the template thing, what an amazing pain, and I now need to learn how to write my own modules/components. So if you have any Joomla! links or advice, post them here please.

Wait for 1.5 unless it's desperate. My advice for what it's worth.

Depends: if you develop for huge companies with more than 2-3 admins - then it's worth to dunge deeper into it. If not: use WordPress. With some little tricks you can produce a CMS with community features a lot easier & faster...

I agree with Wotan and personally am a WordpressMU junkie! However, not every host can setup the MU version, so do your homework. I finally "became" a hosting reseller, just so I can get all the features I wanted and the ability to do this complicated install!!
I would be glad to give advice on Wordpress or WordpressMU, just whisper.

I've tried installing Joomla, but I couldn't get it to work and I don't have enough control over my current hosting to fix it, as far as I can tell. When I end up setting up a server, I want to try things like joomla and typo3.

I am a Drupal fanatic. I tried lots of systems before I chose Drupal. They are all nice in different ways, but I have always felt like I was working with Drupal rather than fighting it.

Waiting for next release myself, and like others here satisfied with tweaking WP for most projects until then.

Thanks to anti, I too am on the Drupal wagon. I am building a new site with it now, and so far so good. I also have e107 on two sites, which is not too shabby either.

I do love Joomla, the only thing I don't love about it, is that many third party components don't validate (I'm not a programmer, so I don't know how to write my own modules/components). Also, I deliver a site that validates and is more or less beautiful, and the client then put big text in rainbow colors, pixelated images and characters pasted from Microsoft Word. Sometimes I just want to cry. haha

I discovered it few times ago and plaied a little with it ^^ was exciting and really different from html website :O thus I prefer to use wordpress to build my personal site.. joomla looks too much like a web portal :/

One of the things I loath about the way the javascript is set up is it causes FOUC. I've had a bear of a time making it go away.

i just write all of my own website code -- it's not that hard really

I don't really like Joomla, because its a little pain to set the templates up to my liking. Wordpress is much easier to use and learn, and has a better collection of free templates.

I'm also a Drupal fan. I've done a handful of sites with it, and am now doing some more complex sites and working on some modules. I've really been working on the new shopping cart for Drupal, Ubercart, because I'm using it for two sites I'm working on. When that is finished, I don't think there will be a better open source shopping cart out there.

I run a joomla in one of my sites and it's okay, i guess. In my heart of hearts, I'm a wordpress user. <3><3

Well, I guess as CMS' go, my favorite is ExpressionEngine.
I use WordPress for blogs, but EE is really flexible. I found Drupal to be a bit too complicated for my tastes at least when theming.

I have used Joomla since it's beginnings as mambo. It's a great CMS, but limited in many respects.
The output has also been really crappy, using tables, and having headings as "td's", go figure.... =( thats why I rewrite the core code, for semantic output.
I like the look of expression engine, looks sweet.
Anyhow, the website I setup via work has over 2500 pages, 1500 pdf's, 1000 users etc.
We use many core Components, and rewrite many ourselves. unfortunately, ours tries to be an enterprise CMS, where we prob should be using SharePoint or similar.
If you just want a blog style, use wordpress, it's lovely output.
Themes in Joomla are really simple. there's a great tute on the Joomla! Dev site.
have fun in your exploration!

I've been using Joomla! with templates that I tweak. A bit of code hacking too, but as a designer it covers a lot of coding I can't do. I find it can be really painful, and training people to use the editor on the pages is frustrating with the little quirks in it. Will check out ExpressionEngine, see how it compares for what I do.

I am amazed at how people can't make the leap from word processor to online editor. I have installed the FCK editor for Joomla, and it is much better than any other I have used so far.

Joomla is just amazing, I love it!

yeah, I'm kinds hanging back at 1.0.12/13 for awhile. let someone else guinea pig 1.5 and when it's really ready, I'll move up. <l>

I used to use Mambo, never made the switch to Joomla and have now discovered expression engine . . . Nothing beats Expression Engine in my book.
webmonkey on Sep 25, 2007
Now I'm curious. I've heard lots of good things about Expression Engine...here I go to find it and try it

Well, I was going to use Expression Engine for my latest project, but the licenece doesn't allow users to have extended profile pages. A massive shame, and a reason why, unless they modify the licenece (or make it a pro feature for paid members), that they will miss out on the whole social networking crowd.
Joomla! is brilliant for small-large personal & corporate sites
Drupal is perfect for social networking sites
Expression engine is perfect for community sites.
(Yes, there is a difference between social & community =)
Each is a tool, each with it's own qualities.
