$5,000 Contract Job! Must work out of our office! - Repost from CL

OK these guys want a site for 5K and they want one magical space monkey to do it for them(BTW I love the great net etiquette with the all caps these guys aren't crazy or anything...they just want everything and a cookie for 5K):

We need a webdesigner… No correction, we need a programmer that can build anything we think of. Are you this good????

We are building a site that will be comparable to an eharmony.com or match.com site. It will have its own database, worldwide search capabilities, blog, web cam access, pc phone line, automated payment, automated billing, gift ordering/delivery, and event organizing.

DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS AD IF YOU CANNOT BUILD A WEBSITE OF THIS MAGNITUDE AT THIS PRICE.
DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS AD IF YOU CANNOT WORK 7 HOURS PER DAY FROM OUR OFFICE IN FORT LAUDERDALE.

DO NOT EXPECT A RESPONSE FROM WELL QUALIFIED PEOPLE IF YOU DO NOT PLAN ON OFFERING A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF MONEY.

Nokiko on Jul 30, 2007

I am that good but not at that price :)

thedudedean on Jul 30, 2007

These guys are nutty, its not just me....

maldenjen on Jul 30, 2007

LOL ;)

iconmaster on Jul 30, 2007

Wow. $5000 for an eharmony.com competitor? Why don't they throw in a Google-killer for another two grand while they're at it?

davethegr8 on Jul 30, 2007

ZsaZsa on Jul 30, 2007

You must work out of their office because you are the person they are going to send out on all the dates!

thedudedean on Jul 30, 2007

LOL@ Dave.

meggan on Jul 30, 2007

seanhussey and davethegr8 FTW.

How these people think $5k is appropriate for that amount of work simply baffles me. I can't think of anything else to say that doesn't deteriorate into name-calling and expletive-filled rants.

daia on Jul 30, 2007

wow, that ad just broke the rudeness scale... why didn't they just say they needed a monkey?!

thedudedean on Jul 30, 2007

I told them to hire someone from India in my equally friendly email.

ZsaZsa on Jul 30, 2007

Daia - Ikon's monkey already turned it down.

bkendall on Jul 30, 2007

actually the company I work for has been asked by potential clients to create "ebay" (at least once a year) and then they run for the hills when they learn that it can't be done for 3-5k ....

MANUELMEXICO on Jul 30, 2007

Hi we are a software company in MEXICO with more advantages than INDIA but for 5 K its not feasible for us. Other idea or scale the system in section will be worthy.

webmonkey on Jul 31, 2007

Ha ha ha... my sides hurt, but at least they admit what they want. Seems most clients want to pay for an apartment, but build luxury highrise condos.

Uberz on Aug 01, 2007

5K is not reasonable. That is insulting for a site of that magnitude.

thedudedean on Aug 02, 2007

Its very odd. This week three of my leads have all said they want E-Harmony. Is this because they are doing TV spots?
