I has tokens. I want icons. (Read before sending.)
EDIT: What a great experiment! I've got all the sets I wanted, many thanks and congratulations to the people who gave them. At least one person got to 1,000 this way!
I'm going to do an experiment. I'm only going to accept deliveries from people with few points! MWAHAHAHAHA! How many is few? Not telling you! :D

I'm not sure what your limit is, but I sent what I had.

If you have more points than I do, it's probably not few.

Another note: This probably won't work, so there'll be another round. :D
Staril on May 16, 2007
I've sent you one of them ... and I have way fewer points than you do :(
davethegr8 on May 16, 2007
You can always reject deliveries from people you don't want to accept them from.
taral

Yup! That's what I'm doing.
Thanks Staril!

Luckily, using your strategy, I can accept icon sets from anyone.
I really like this tactic to get members involved. Good job.
EmmanuelD on May 16, 2007
I also like the idea. Let's pretend I will use it later :)
ftapao on May 16, 2007
Good idea.

lol @ tamashii
Nice to be out front isn't it.
mik on May 16, 2007
So what other strategies do people use to spend their tokens?
I generally accept only one set from one person (at a time, some are repeats). I make a note of people I want to contribute points to and then when I have a request I ask one of them.
cdncx on May 16, 2007
I have less than 1k points ... is that enough ?
taral

Looks like it! So far so good. Acapulco System and Alexandria Election are left -- I haven't gotten any offers for them from lowbies yet!
hjsg on May 16, 2007
low is in the eye of the beholder
bjendrick on May 16, 2007
Well, I have fewer points than you, but it looks like you've either already received the remaining sets, or you're still trying to review the owners. Let me know on my box if you still want a set. Thank you.

what a great method;)

@mik: I don't get a chance to post requests. A new set is released, I get a delivery. If I decline, I get another delivery in seconds. I actually prefer this method of doing things to actually posting a request somewhere.
Someone posted a request on my profile and said that he would decline all deliveries of that set until he got it from me. Although that was really sweet of him, it took me days of trying to actually deliver the set, because the moment he'd decline, someone else would send it to him.
My criteria:
- I want to help your point count.
- You're my IB "friend" (vs trader), people like you, zelda, snowraven, Jen, tamashii, several others. People with whom I've actually communicated beyond icon swapping.
Pretty simple really. And the first criterion is actually another point in favour of not posting requests, because I might not remember, off the top of my head, that a person I seldom see on the forums might appreciate my contribution to their point total.

@justG: That's interesting. I've thought it would be valuable to be able to specify a specific person from whom you want a set to avoid exactly this problem...

@taral: Not that I have any insider info or anything, but I would speculate that the Chefs wouldn't be in favour of implementing such a feature. I think they think that good-natured "spamming" is part of the fun and it's how a lot of new members get points and icon sets. Being able to specify a particular deliverererer would make our community too exclusive, I think; it might encourage "cliquey" behaviour. Y'know? In any case, if we do get that ability, I wouldn't use it. I like finding new people on IB and don't mind declining a delivery until I get it from someone who "feels" right. =)
tamashii on May 16, 2007
I will generally accept a delivery from the first person to get it to me. However, there are times where I promise deliveries to people and will make some effort to let that be known. There have been a couple of times I’ve accepted a set, without hesitation, from someone because they previously turned to me to fulfill a delivery when they were out of stamps.
I want everyone to have points and experience the joy of making a delivery.

@justG: Interesting. It is true that it would encourage that. It did occur to me that, presuming the rate wasn't ridiculous, you could simply time the decline and the send, perhaps?
jmnovak on May 16, 2007
Drat! Missed this one... bet I fall into the 'few points' category... :-p
I agree with justG that the chefs probably wouldn't go for a 'choose your delivery' for just the reasons you cite (though it would suit me as a method... I would rather choose ahead of time who I'm going to receive from, though my plan is to add a couple people I haven't gotten sets from each time I get tokens). The only other approach I can think of is for the chefs to release so many icon sets that nobody can collect *all* of them -- people would have to pick-and-choose more closely. While it wouldn't eliminate the crush during a new release, it would I think reduce it enough that the problem justG had in delivering to someone (a problem I've had, too, from the other side) would be bearable...
