IconBuffet at MyMiniCity
MyMiniCity is a SimCity-esque browser game that requires nothing more than for citizens to click a link.

UPDATE: LeMaire has supplied us with a link to a very clever script that automatically checks the levels of the city you want to help and then sends you to the appropriate URL for the needed feature. In appreciation, I am also including the original city link provided in LeMaire’s post:

putting the link (and the various future links) onto your blog/website/etc. will help grow the city (again, all links add to the population).
I am also under the impression that tomorrow is a new day for everyone - so you can click on the link again and it will count!

tamashii on Dec 18, 2007
that's weird... i was under the impression that each link added to the population regardless. So, for Industry, clicking on the industry version of the link would increase the population by one and industry by one.
I'll change the link back, cuz I think we have enough industry at the moment.

dyar on Dec 20, 2007
@rossanyl: There was 1% unemployment earlier today. I fixed it by adding to the industry. If we don't add industry people will start leaving IconBuffet City and go look for jobs elsewhere.
rossanyl on Dec 20, 2007
@dyar - I see!
I don't know at what point all these industries will create polution. Interesting to follow the development.

we are over 200 now - with perfect stats, good for us.
BTW the MyMiniCity day is based on Paris, France time.
when you post a message there take notice of the time stamp. your day might cross over two days there (thus you get two days for the price of one.)

dyar on Dec 22, 2007
What are we going to do with all this income? May I suggest a party.
tamashii on Dec 23, 2007
Because of the rapid growth, our city is quite poor in appearance. There are cities with barely half our population and they have skyscrapers. I can only attribute it to the fact that they aren't having hundreds move in within a mere couple of days. I don't know the specifics on the game's mechanics, but something is amiss. IconBuffet is one huge piece of sprawl.
I will focus on the infrastructure, rather than add to the population. I think that is the best way to improve the look of our fine town.
dyar on Dec 23, 2007
I think we have quite a lot of large buildings for having only 558 peeps. There are numerous burbs around and some good farmland SE of the city.
aaroncampbell on Dec 23, 2007
Maybe the fancy stuff just comes with time? If not, what do you think gives you want you want? More industry? Better Environment? Better Security? Or would that come once you unlock the ability to increase Business?
It seems like the stats are perfect (0%, 100%, 0%, 0%), what more can you ask for?
tamashii on Dec 23, 2007
Well - as I understand it, the site isn't that old at all (like maybe a month… two tops).
The city I am talking about (egotown) had a ratio of like 3:1 for pop:ind (they hadn't even unlocked transportation yet before getting the skyscraper). Now, of course, their pop has shot up to over 400 and their transport and security are suffering for it.
I think that while our stuff is balanced (and that is incredible, considering), I wonder how much of the fast-pop-growth is affecting the aesthetic of our town.
Overall - I am impressed and pleased with us making it in the Top 100 and see nothing but good things for the City of IconBuffet. I’d really like to see what determines the increase in unemployment, crime and pollution and the decrease in transportation.
dyar on Dec 23, 2007

Sorry folks. I haven’t been around since the 3rd as I was slumming it in Barbados and hitting some of the other islands for the last 10 days.
Back to business (as it were). I’ll update the main post to include the Commercial upgrade.
MrDee on Jan 14, 2008
Any chance you could include the guidance I keep posting?
Thanks.
tamashii on Jan 14, 2008
^The what?
I already have the XML linked with a call to action for people to look at that first to see what needs improvement; followed by the appropriate links to improve said needs. My main post hasn't changed since Industry was an option to click through (with the exception of adding the new improvement links, of course).
MrDee on Jan 14, 2008
It is just a tweak on your header.
letting people know what order we want improvements (this way you do not need to keep changing the most important link)
if U > 0 ... etc.
some say they have found it useful.
tamashii on Jan 14, 2008
Why is that the order? Why is Transportation more critical than Commercial? The reason they are ordered as they are on the site is because that is the order they are opened for clicking.
Going by your listing (pseudo-coding?) it would seem that as long as Unemployment is more than 0% none of the other links should be considered; regardless their own percentages.
If you have actually figured out what effects what improvement/feature of the city, then I would be grateful to hear it.
I will remove the "bolding" reference of "currently needed click" as I haven't actually kept up with that at all (primarily because the city fluctuates too much for that to be a realistic possibility).
louiemctool on Jan 14, 2008

MrDee on Jan 14, 2008
@tamashii - I have no magic answers.
the guide I provided was just that - a GUIDE, an approximation of my thought process when i go to the stats page.
It is provided so that people with only a passing interest can feel they are contributing and not just adding to population (and thus possibly adding to crime / pollution)
This is your city and your thread. If you do not wish to implement this idea I will still be happy to support this city. (it does look pretty and is very well supported)
tamashii on Jan 15, 2008
all i'm sayin' is that your idea was already there in the original post and has been since Industry opened up and we found the XML page.
I'm confused (a usual occurrence)… Nothing in your listing/“guide” is different from the link options I'd already provided. Mine just spells it out using words with more letters.
As stated earlier (4 posts up), I've removed the "we need this" paragraph bit with the bolding and what have you. I stopped editing the main post after Transportation opened and therefore didn't keep up with the bold thing. This makes the original post more like your "guide", I'spose…
It's actually not my city. There isn't any ownership of the cities, really. I just happened to be the guy who created it on the site and then told all you addicts where to find the rehab center.
btw: with the exception of one or two headlines, I have been posting as DAILY BUFFET. Anyone can post as DB if you have a clever bit of news you want to share. Feel free.
LeMaire on Jan 15, 2008
Here's a link that handles these things through a script. So you can just use this link to let people generate whatever your city needs most. Simply substitute vaudrevange by your city's name and you're all set.
Of course I'd be happy if you'd click it once for me... ;) If you leave the name of your city in my messages, I'll visit you back.

OMG WOW! First: Thank you LeMaire, I will be adding that link for IB in the original post. Very clever!
Second: You’ll notice that just under our city sign is a new addition. In France there's an ongoing competition, which is called “Villes et Villages Fleuris” [Towns and Villages in Bloom] and eminent communities are awarded the title, which means they can place the 'Ville Fleurie' or 'Village Fleuri' panel on their outskirts.
I could be wrong, but I believe the number of flowers on the sign designate how often the village has won the award.

Tamashii: I think that what MrDee was trying to do was tell people HOW to read the XML file that you point them to. It seems simple enough, but some people freak out a little when they start seeing < and >.
aaroncampbell on Jan 15, 2008
I had a script that I was using too...I went ahead and put it on my site.
You can Enter a MyMiniCity city and then get the stats and a recommended link, or choose to automate the process, and it will automatically forward you to the best option.
Alternatively, you can use a link like: http://xavisys.com/iconbuffet/my-mini-city/?cityname=iconbuffet To get the stats and a recommended link (replace iconbuffet with your city name)
Lastly, you could simply bookmark this link: http://xavisys.com/iconbuffet/my-mini-city/?automate&cityname=iconbuffet which will automatically place your vote where it's most needed

Hey cool - are you able to tell how it chooses between business and population?
aaroncampbell on Jan 16, 2008
On mine, it's random. I'm actually wondering if I should weight the population some, or if 50-50 is a good balance. I'm honestly not that sure what business does for us.
tamashii on Jan 16, 2008
I suspect Business increases our Revenues (the money the city generates) and allows for a healthier city. Perhaps if there is a high ratio of money to the other features, those other features do more.
Like, all the Police (Security) are equipped with stun guns and other technologically advanced means for crime suppression. Or our existing roads are widened and public transportation is improved. I really don't know.
Ultimately, it makes for a richer city and more money means more opportunity. Streets are shinier and neighbors are friendlier.
MrDee on Jan 16, 2008
looking at our current ranking page
there is a city above us with lower revenue.
therefore ranking appears to be population only.

the other cities have a higher population. Apparently, the other percentages relating to your city (Unemployment, Traffic, Crime, etc) have nothing to do with your actual ranking – which makes no sense to me at all.
