This is definitely a Dark(er) Knight style of game. People will die. Brutally. This mafia game is not for the squeamish.

BASIC RULES
++++++++++
• Daylight votes are not for lynching. They are for public arrests and they must be delivered by Commissioner Gordon with a substantial amount of merit behind the arrest. Gotham is, fundamentally, a lawless town, so you don't have to get super legally accurate with your causes. If you are discovered to be a felon, you no longer get a vote during the Day rounds and God save your soul during the night.
• I will post a time that I will STOP collecting “moves” for that day/night. If you have not posted your action by that time, you don’t get an action.
• Once you are dead, that is it, you are absolutely dead in this game. There will be no posting in this thread by dead people. None. Move on and act as though you were never part of the game in the first place. Somewhat likewise, if you are a felon and are sent to Arkham Asylum or jail. While you can be let out of jail, you can not be let out of Arkham Asylum unless a very clever escape plan is formulated on your behalf (or an even more clever one is formulated by you). I'm talking really clever - not "The Rock" clever, that's not really clever, but incredibly clever. Regardless, you can't talk/post/communicate with anyone outside of your cell for the period you are incarcerated.
• No mass extermination plots. If you are a bad guy, you can not go with the "Acid Rain for Gotham, YAY!" plan. You don't have time to pollute the air effectively. No water purification plant poisoning. No hypnotic gas balloons in the Gotham City Parade. It's old school, kill 'em up close tactics for the lot of you.
• Killing off someone is not just a "We vote for tamashii" end game for the sucker getting whacked. As the Joker (Mafia Don), it is your job to come up with a plan to unleash on your victim. Get with your clown cronies and devise a plan to take the person out. Write that plan to me and we'll see if it was a good idea. Good idea: plan works, person dies. Mediocre idea: plan fails but someone gets hurt and/or whacked. Bad idea: you don't wanna know how I reward stupidity.
• As a bad guy, if you go to kill another bad guy, you'll find out real quick whether that person is a bad guy or not. As the Penguin, attacking the Joker isn't going to be a “stab now, find out after the fact” deal. What this means is, you will both meet, you will both realize who each other are and you will both gain that knowledge and NOT kill each other (unless you specify that 1. you know who you're attacking and 2. you have full intent to dispose of them).
• The above applies to the good guys as well. Once Gordon realizes he's targeted Lucius Fox (Giver), he's not going to give him a lead salad.
• There is going to be a lot of failed “missions.” Get used to it. This is the only way to make such a game even playable. This doesn’t mean that you’ve figured out who Batman is if the Batman shows up at the location so-and-so player was targeted to be.

Commissioner Gordon (Super Cop)

CHARACTER DYNAMICS
++++++++++
• You can not attack Commissioner Gordon – no matter how you go about it, Batman will get an EXTRA action to save his life (likely resulting in at least one member of the attacking party dying). Gordon is a public figure and whomever is picked to play him will be made known immediately to the player public. Gordon gives the final notice of the Day’s public arrest. Gordon can arrest people during the night. Gordon wins if the main bad guys are rounded up or dead.
• Officer Renee Montoya is also a public figure and their identity will be revealed at the start of the game. However, killing this character isn't going to be a cake walk. If you are the Joker, think like the mastermind you claim to be to take this character out. A careless action will only result in loss of life in Montoya's favor. Montoya can arrest people during the night. Montoya wins if the main bad guys are rounded up or dead.
• Bruce Wayne is not Batman, whomever is selected as Batman is effectively Bruce Wayne. This means that if, say, tamashii was selected to be Batman, he would be Bruce Wayne. You would all know that tamashii is playing and he could be anyone, but you wouldn't necessarily know he is the Batman. Also, killing off Batman is gonna require a GREAT plan. He's the Batman. This means you're likely gonna have to come up with great plans for everyone you wanna see get halos or horns just in case you picked the Batman. Batman can pretty much do whatever the hell he wants at night. Batman wins if the main bad guys are rounded up or dead.
• Clowns are the Jokers crew. You don't know who's a clown – only the bad guys do/will. Clowns CAN go out on their own, but they are clowns and will likely die from something as simple as slipping on a banana peel or getting hit in the face with a cream pie. I'm not kidding. Clowns are hired thugs to carry out brainy plans, not make plans of their own. If you are a clown, all hope isn't lost, however. If you come up with an incredible plan to take someone out on your own, you might just get what's coming to you.
• The Joker is effectively the Mafia Don in this game. He's a tough customer and is clever. As with almost anyone in the game, he won’t be a walk in the park to arrest and/or kill. He’ll likely always have the last laugh. There is only one circumstance in which he will meet a swift downfall with little to no planning (and you’ll just have to wait to find out what that is, if it happens at all). Here’s a hint, it won’t be at the hands of the Batman. In the event of the Joker’s death/capture, AND if the Penguin has met and knows who the Joker is, the Penguin will become Mafia Don. Else, the clowns are left to their own devices as an unled group of thugs (though they can conspire together if they so choose). The Joker wins when no vigilantes/good guys are left in Gotham (with the exception of Commissioner Gordon).
• Penguin is a very intelligent, considerate thief. Make no mistake, he’ll kill you if given the chance, but he is a thief, first and foremost. He will run away before he engages in hand-to-hand. And like most of his namesake, he’s a slippery fellow, so nabbing him will not come easy.
More character dynamics as they are revealed!!

Would be in if it didn't sound so complicated ...
tamashii on Feb 16, 2008
Please note that the “complexity” is only related to killing someone off. If you are simply trying to make an arrest, give something to someone, hinder an action, you merely need to state who. There isn't much clever planning required to follow someone to see what their action was during the night.
The only thing that makes this a more difficult game is when you are trying to take players out of the game.

Sorry folks - have been slammed at the 'ol job lately.
Still accepting sign-ups for this mafia game, so get your names in. We have 4 so far and need a minimum of 16 to begin play.

You might want to try it at this site instead. It has more people.
tamashii on Feb 22, 2008
I barely have time to keep up with this site. I doubt I can muster the time to join yet another forum for one single purpose. Thanks for introducing it to me, though.

Looks like this thread’s shipment of fail has arrived.

I'll recruit at other sites.

Damn - if IB wasn't so BRUTALLY slow to load this might be flying.
I'm in anyway, though, because I like the concept.
