Tips, Tricks & Easter eggs

I'd like to start a thread listing tips and hidden features on IB,

Want more points? - Refer a Friend - by Josh
My referrer link looks like this:
http://www.iconbuffet.com/people/new?ref=josh

It's pretty easy to hook up. Just copy the link above exactly as it is, but replace the name at the very end with your username. For instance, if "iconmaster" wanted to create a referrer link, he could use the one above by replacing "josh" with "iconmaster". His would look like this:
http://www.iconbuffet.com/people/new?ref=iconmaster

Log in using your username - by iconmaster
You can log in using your username, not just your email address. Either will work just fine (I use my username every time, actually).

Search for icons - by watehey
There is a sort-of search function available for the icon sets already. But you have to manually put it in your address bar:

http://www.iconbuffet.com/tags/????

Replace the ???? with the keyword of your choice. No results? Then that keyword wasn't found.

Find sets by relation - by Jahnoth
In relation to tags, if you click on any set, it lists the tags in the right hand column. Click on a tag, and you've got the search there as well. Finally used this to see what sets where Gold, Silver, etc. Handy.

Can't accept deliveries? - by slypix
Try adding your token status to your avatar, some are using a little red "x", and others have the tokens icon, showing the number of tokens left.

Searching the blog forum - by Novak
For those who live and die by searching, until the IB Chefs implement some kind of search, I find the easiest thing to do is use Google's "site:" param to narrow my search to one site.

For example, if you're wondering what the new badges are all about, type:

about badges site:iconbuffet.com

in Google and you'll get some appropriate results. (A quick check shows the same method works in Windows Live for you non-Google fans.)

Multiple deliveries in fewer mouse clicks - by Jahnoth
There's a bit of an annoyance factor when you're sending icons, and that is: Say you're on a friend's/person's profile page or a blog post, you hit the Send button (upper right hand corner). You get the nifty little screen that you then choose which set you want to mail. Click send, and *boom* you're suddenly on your own profile page. But you wanted to send more than one! Now you have to either go back to their person's profile page, or thumb through your friend's list, which for some may be an arduous task. What to do?

Look at the bottom, right hand corner of your profile page, below your friend's list. You'll see there a list of your three most recent trades, both sent and received. The trade you just sent should be at the top of the list. Click on the person's avatar, and you're quickly taken to that profile page, where you can then click the Send button, etc.

Jahnoth, Nice tip. I had seen the tags, figured that is what they would do, but never clicked on one.

@slypix: Totally off-topic, but I see you've modified your avatar to reflect the fact that you're out of tokens. I just wanted to say that I think it's brilliant. =)

@justG - Thanks, I started a trend last night, a couple of other users are starting to do it.

You know what? it's not off topic

<< Tip: can't accept deliveries? >>
Try adding your token status to your avatar, some are using a little red "x", and others even display, tokens left amount.

@slypix: Oh good, not off-topic. That's all right, then. =]

A suggestion: Keep an eye on this post (not that you wouldn't) and grab the tips out of the comments and edit your original blog entry to add them there. You can give credit as appropriate, and that way people can see all the tips together. This is common practise in "sticky" threads on most forums. Hope it helps, and thanks for starting this. =)

Thanks justG, good idea, I will do that.

Okay, just found something interesting to share. I was curious about that tiny, unobtrusive little "Help" link that you can see in the upper-right hand corner of the 'Buffet, right next to the logout link. Guess what? When you click on it, it takes you to iconfactory's post. Keeps you from having to look for it in the Blog Forum.

Thought I'd bump this post back up with another small tip that may help some.

@jahnoth

I also used that section (recent trade) whenever I need to send another set to the same person I have sent.

@sly
thanks for pointing out some of the tips and tricks, really useful ;)

Great post! If/when they implement a sticky feature this will be a good candidate!

I agree, definitely a bookmark blog to happen =)
