I haven't got many web designer friends :(

I'll be frank, when it comes to having friends that know much about web design or development they are far and few between. So who wants to be my web design buddy? Specifically anyone that might want to collaborate on a project for fun?

Oh and if you want to spare me some icons, all the better :)

Update, I have skills in XHTML & CSS if that helps anyone? I'm like a super duper CSS ninja ;)

Update 2, if anyone has any questions about CSS I've created a yahoo ID specifically for those that would like to ask me any CSS questions they have on their mind. Just add csstalk to Yahoo! Messenger and I will try to answer your question as soon as possible.

*stands up*
Well, I don't see anybody else standing up.

I've got a bit of experience on the web, but no AJAX, sorry :(

Leto on Apr 16, 2007

I don't have too much spare time, but depends on the project. I'm employed as a Web Developer. Very strong in HTML, CSS, non-intrusive javascript (altho jQuery ftw), PHP, .NET, C#.

Drop me a note if you have any questions.

Alpaca on Apr 16, 2007

I posted on your wall. Feel free to get in touch with me as I think we'd be able to collaborate.

gswd on Apr 16, 2007

I am always open to a new project, whether for fun or for pay. If I don't keep using current and new skills, how will I ever get better?

sevenupcan on Apr 17, 2007

Hey, thanks for speaking up. I know what you mean Leto about spare time, but I appreciate your support. If you are all interested collaborating on something either together or separately feel free to post some details about yourself. What it is you do, what your good at, what you enjoy. Or alternatively you can contact me at (bi-98lc at iximail dot com).

Here's a few things about myself:
- I'm addicted to CSS
- I'm 21
- I'd like to learn some server side scripting, maybe someone can teach me a little?
- I have a ton of ideas that involve some kind of web application framework
- I'll try not to bug you too much :)

Hi, I know what you mean! I am employed full time as a senior web designer & have 7 years experience. I would like to increase my skills in development and also learn server side scripting. Its just finding the spare time. If anyone can point me in the right direction to get started - much appreciated. I would glady lend any of my experience in return.

So you want a "friend" to bum knowledge and skills off? Sounds like a bit of a one-sided friendship to me :p

sevenupcan on Apr 17, 2007

They are more than welcome to "bum" knowledge off me too :) I'd love to learn something along the way, but I don't expect anyone to devote their time to me. I guess I'd like to contribute my skills and expertise in the hopes that by working with others that have different skills to me I may learn from them and vice versa. Sorry if it sounded like a jerk that just wants someone to do the dirty work for me, that's not the case, I promise.

opello on Apr 17, 2007

I did the web development thing for a while, and most that I know are more than happy to help with specifics :)

So consider jumping right in, or maybe learning to write some simple programs first. The framework you choose will drive the language that you should learn. PHP, Python, Ruby, or C# would all be decent places to start.

Check out some syntax for each, or get some book recommendations. Most O'Reilly books are good for starters. Once you find one you like, you can start learning and finding a framework you can use.

sevenupcan on Apr 17, 2007

Hey opello, I'd really like to learn how to use PHP or/and Ruby on Rails. I've purchased a book called Agile Web Development with Rails but because I've never done any kind of programming before I'm finding it quite a hurdle to learn. I know the basic syntax for PHP, but I can't write anything productive yet :(

LoopyMind on Apr 17, 2007

Webdesigners are assh***s anyway, look at me!...you don't want them as friends ;)

electricnet on Apr 17, 2007

I write a lot of PHP and XHTML/CSS now and then, but education is eating more and more of my free time. D:

anti on Apr 17, 2007

I would love to have a CSS ninja as a friend! It would be great to learn some PHP.

sevenupcan on Apr 17, 2007

@electricnet, I know exactly how you mean, wish you all the best work school/uni

@anti, feel free to email me (bi-98lc at iximail dot com) I'll gladly help with whatever CSS trouble you might have

opello on Apr 17, 2007

http://rubylearning.com/ is a pretty good site to start learning ruby.
I'd suggest learning ruby first, then looking at the rails framework. While it's true that you need very little knowledge of ruby to write your first rails "web application," you'll be better off in the long run knowing the syntax of ruby. In my opinion, of course.

Chb on Apr 17, 2007

I also design websites, but more as a hobby. Therefor I use XHTML, CSS and PHP. I am student, so spare time is season depending. :D But if you want to get in touch, just stick something to my wall. :)

Jem on Apr 18, 2007

"Sorry if it sounded like a jerk that just wants someone to do the dirty work for me" - hah, no, I was just messing with you :)

I wonder if there's a way to do CSS Battle...

Greetings, CSS Ninja!

twopeak on Apr 18, 2007

I've just replied to Anouska's portofolio post, but if someone needs to learn php, I have decent skills in php4 (with mysql connections)
and I'm in need of someone with graphic skills...

Deviousxster on Apr 18, 2007

Hi, I'm good at HTML and CSS, I Can Edit JavaScript, AJAX, PHP most other scripting languages. And I've got lots of Ideas for web projects, and yeah thats pretty well all my web-skills. I live in Canada if that helps.
and I'm always ready for a cool project (gotta keep my skills going.

gswd on Apr 18, 2007

I have been learning Flash from a group at LearnFlash.com, however they also offer PHP and Coldfusion training at LearnWebDevelopment.com.

Their tutorials for Flash have been very good.

I have done a little with PHP and SHTML to be able to use "includes" and some server variable. It was my main concern to find a way to create an easy to update menu (includes) that can change based on what page they are on, instead of the old "breadcrumb" at the top of the page.

sevenupcan on Apr 18, 2007

Hey well sounds like all you guys/gals? are interested in doing a project of some kind. Perhaps we could all collaborate or contribute to something, doesn't have to be ground breaking, experimental maybe. If you are interested please don't hesitate to email me at tbi-98lc@ iximail.com. Otherwise I can set up some kind of a discussion board specifically for brainstorming if you like. Don't be alarmed by the weird address it's only to avoid spam bots from, well spamming me :)
