You must have
The Pirates
in one of the four profile categories ("Movies", "Listening", "On the Tube", and "Reading")
to make you part of the guild. It does not matter what category you use.

Looks like your avatar suffers from the "double dot" bug. This happens when you upload a JPG image and the IB software tries to convert it to a PNG.
The solution is to convert the image to a PNG format and then upload the PNG file (48x48 pixels).

I'm running a Contest that ends today at 6PM Eastern. Its a simple lottery, the winner gets a one-month VIP membership. Part of a recruiting drive The Pirates are holding. Aye, we be a fun group of scoundrels.
(if you enter the contest you must add The Pirates to your profile. Even though your avatar did not "take", it meets the rule requirement of not being the default so don't sweat it at the moment).
