Film Discussion: Wargames

Let's talk about movies. Wargames is my all time favorite movie. The acting is incredible and the story is even better. If you haven't seen it, you owe it to yourself to rent it. NOW!!!!!!

Classic flick. Made me wish I could hack into my school with my dad's Commodore 64 to change my grades.

It's a nice cheesy 80s movie, but nothing more. Mathew Broderick's been better.

I believe the most important thing is that it was genuinely scary, even though there was no blood and gore. Anything that can do that is fantastic in my opinion.

It's too anti-tech for me. I hate the whole idea of computers taking over the world. It makes people afraid of the future, and is utterly cliché.

peterlustig on Nov 30, 2007

granf - oh lol if people are afraid of the future because of computers could take over the world than its all allright ;)

supertux on Nov 30, 2007

The scary thing is not when computers start acting like humans, but when humans start acting like computers.

That's from a poster in our math teacher's classroom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

oong on Dec 03, 2007

It doesn't have computers take over the world. one computer tries to destroy it.

Nice movie... A classic... last week i've seen it mencioned on the top ten hackers moovies...

rossanyl on Dec 03, 2007

I liked that movie but this is nothing compare to Colossus. Now that was a scary computer!

oong on Dec 10, 2007

I found collossus cliche.

Novak on Dec 10, 2007

I loved it when I was a kid (back when such movies were not cliche!). I suppose you can argue that it hasn't aged well, but it's still...charming...for lack of a better word. Unlike that silly "Hackers" movie with a young Angelina Jolie and that actor who was in Trainspotting. Crash override indeed.

rossanyl on Dec 10, 2007

@oong - At the time, let me assure you that was not cliche at that, very powerful...

Betty on Dec 10, 2007

Tron also deserves a re-viewing.

oong on Dec 11, 2007

I disagree. I think it has been cliche for a veerrrrrrry long time.

oong on Dec 11, 2007

Since 2001, computers getting minds of their own have become cliches.

oong on Dec 11, 2007

I mean the book, not the year.

oong on Dec 11, 2007

I'm not denyig that it wasn't scary, but still.
