referral quit the site
so i had a colleague of mine log in today and sign up for an account. his initial impression was that the site was great; lots of icons, advanced blog/forum, etc. but he canceled his account, which bummed me out. his reasoning was that it was just too much for a newbie getting started. he said it seemed there was a very long growing curve, and for those who have them all and then some (like me) the site is too slow.
he made a couple of good points. many of us, when the change over happened, had stamps for icons we had accrued prior to the big change. and though quite a few have shown that referrals are out there, many of us are lucky to get these shots in the dark. but what's the point if they don't stick around?
maybe there could be a stamp bonus for newbies? to help get them going? or token rewards? and stamp rewards for us veterans? just throwing out ideas (as in previous posts made by several veteran sages)...
i guess the cancellation just took my by surprise because i really like this site, above and beyond the icons. there is a fantastic community and i find the community to be as vital as the icons that make this site.
ok, done blabbing. thanks for reading!

i can understand him. for me, when i first started this site about a year ago, it was also a lot for me. I'm pretty sure that if I hadn't known the people who referred so well and had their help, then I probably wouldn't have gotten as far as I have...

i agree. i offered to get all my future icon sets from him, to get him going. i also told him i did vip for a year to get the sets i wanted as well, which was a nice option. just was not interested enough, i guess.

yeah...i think what got me interested was the fun conversations in the blogs, but i don't really know. I just didn't really understand that well when i first started. I needed help...

I have had the same problem with many of my refs. They just don't get it. I started as a noob a year ago and look at me now....

I feel that it is going very slow and it is hard to get rid of stamps and I joined in November. I need to find people that can help me use my stamps cause I am collecting them as well as icons lol

In the begining, you really have to jump in with both feet, or you don't get any where. You have to constantly troll the forums for requests or you won't get any points. It very intimidating for new comers.

It shouldnt be that way though cause I know a few people that will only accept from lower than 1500 points which is nice, but would be nice to see others that will help people in like the 3000's as well cause I try to help people who are lower than me so they can get a chance on points as well.

I am always thankful that I started with the 1.0 version so that stamps aren't a concern for me. Becoming a VIP allows me to keep up with all the sets (although with more tokens going unused than I would like). It might be nice if we could hand those out to other people somehow although I am not sure how that would affect the various mechanisms.

@lovergrl81 - one of the things that I do is I ask people that have requested sets from me. For instance, someone requests a set from me, and I have the stamps to deliver, so I keep their request in my box until I am able to ask them for a set (then it gets deleted). That way I am able to return the favor for those that have helped me.
Of course I am still waiting on a request to be filled by the person whom I requested (and it has been HOURS).
