Digital video cam... Any suggestions?
Anyone have a really good digital video cam? I get to pick one out for my birthday... YEAH!!! So suggestions would be great... would prefer one that does stills as well... Sony would be okay as well as we have two Vaios and a Mac...
Any help is very much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I have a Sony something or other and it's fine.

I'm pretty happy with the Panasonic MiniDV Camcorder (PV-GS320). It uses Mini-DV tapes and also records stills onto an SD card.
I went back and forth over this decision, but, for me, it came down to this--we bought it because we just had a kid and we wanted to capture all that kid stuff. While I wanted the biggest, baddest camera with every adjustment possible, the fact is that kids don't wait for that stuff. I got this model because it has a quick startup, great auto-configuration and adjustments, and good quality video. When the kid is doing something cute, I can grab the camera, flip the switch, and capture what's happening.
So, think about what it is you want to use it for, and then think about whether or not the cameras you're considering will be good in those situations.
