Collecting is fine, but how about using?
So it's cool to get all these badges and points and stuff for collecting icons, but I'd love to be able to get badges (or somesuch) for actually using them, too. I used a mess of them on my blog, for example.
I'm thinking of the way iStockphoto does their Designer Spotlight. You can submit designs (graphic design, web design, whatever - can be a published 'real' piece or 'on spec') and if they deem your design worthy, it gets posted in the spotlight area. And you get a little badge (it's a pencil) on your portfolio page for it.
So to sum up my request: make a gallery type page/area/etc. where people can submit designs/sites/apps they've used icons in/on and others can browse nice piccies of them. And if you get in the gallery, you get a badge! (Ok, I think it would be cool even without a badge.) (And it might give others inspiration on ways to actually use all these cool icons.)

No, keep with the badge... always ask for MORE than you want, in case they skinny you back!
Great idea BTW. 8)

I second that motion. It would be a lot better than just posting a link, or if it used in private (not for retail) software, then it would never be seen.

Aye!

Oh and the badge should be like uber cool...

like a globe with a paintbrush showing "A World of Creativity".

I think that would be a great feature for this community. Then you would be able to see what others are using and how.

Neat ideas. i'm working on a project that will launch before the end of the month that features some of the free deliveries and it would be cool to have some way to showcase.

Good idea, I like it. So far, though, the badges are awarded on stats, thus removing opinions from the equation...which would be the only drawback to this notion -- cause then you have people worrying (or, worse, arguing) about what would be "deemed worthy". Maybe we could have a new URL field added to our profile where we could put an example of our work, and if that URL is a valid URL we get the badge? I suppose then the abusers would put any ol address in there...Dang.
Hmmm...I should've just left this at "Good idea."

Fairest way to do it as far as I can see is have a voting system, so whenever a user sees a use they like they vote for it, and once something has a certain number of votes, the creator gets a badge. Might take a while to implement though :)

Interesting concept. I like it.

I like the voting idea...Oooh! What if we could vote by donating tokens to people who have posted an example of IB usage that we like? you know, as a "token" of appreciation. ha! sorry.
myrheille on Apr 26, 2007
Novak, not sure anybody would part with tokens for that! Except maybe me. I have way too much tokens.

Yeah, I might've just been hung up on the token joke. Stamps maybe? Or points? No? Okay, just votes then. :-)

Your blog is really nice..clean, clear.

I heart this idea

Thanks, Spongefile, and thanks to everyone chiming in on this, too. I think it could be fun. Perhaps points could be 'spent' as votes? Or perhaps you would need a certain number of points to be eligible to vote? Or perhaps you get 1 vote per month if you have X points, 2 votes if you have Y points, etc.
