Firefox download day!
Mozilla is going for the Guinness World Record for Most Software Downloaded in 24 Hours with today’s release of Firefox 3.
Help out by downloading Firefox 3 between 17:00 GMT today (that’s 40 minutes from now) and 17:00 GMT tomorrow (that’s 1480 minutes from now).
You may also want to put “Firefox” in your profile to show your support of my personal favorite browser.

yep. i took the pledge. my finger is hovering* over the download button even as we speak, waiting for it to be TIME.
*(okay, metaphorically hovering. i do actually have things to do, while i'm waiting.)

firefox 2 says, “waiting for www.mozilla.com...”

Hasn't that time already passed?

FF 3 is quite great ... the interface looks nice ... the add to favorites star besides the RSS one near the address is a good idea ...
rc on Jun 17, 2008
working properly here...
animuson on Jun 17, 2008
Yes they finally released it! Over an hour and a half late. Anyways, I was there right when it went up, one of the first, which is why mine only took about 30 seconds to download.
tamashii on Jun 17, 2008
Every time I access the link, I am sent to download Firefox 2. Moreover, the link for Firefox 3 says it is preview release. As in – they haven't officially released FF3. What am I missing here?
animuson on Jun 17, 2008
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
Link right there is working fine. There's a green box that says FireFox 3. That's how I downloaded it...
If it's still showing the old website, you might have to clear your cache.
kimdvm on Jun 17, 2008
I can only get firefox 2, or firefox 3 beta downloads as well. I've tried the link from my download day email as well as the one posted above and I've cleared my cache. The link for spreadthefire.com appears to be broken

That is the link to 3.0 which is working. If it doesn't let you download, you might want to contact their support team.

Dammit, where can I find the FF3 download, it's linking to the 2.0.0.14 not the new one.
kimdvm on Jun 17, 2008
Downloaded it from softpedia.
www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Mozilla-Firefox-Final-Download-5787.html
Will that count toward the Guiness record?
animuson on Jun 17, 2008
No it won't, you have to download it from their site. That's the only site keeping the download counter.

Sorry, I can't stand Firefox… far too slow, no matter what I do. I'm sticking with Safari, which is fast and sleek.

This site worked for me.
JBVisions on Jun 17, 2008
It seemed to take a while to appear. All day I kept getting v2 then I refreshed the page and up came v3. Downloaded it immediately and got it within seconds. Seems faster than v2 but still hammers the machine.
JBVisions on Jun 17, 2008
The ticker said I was number 4 to get it.
TheOffKid on Jun 17, 2008
Hm, I downloaded it, but most of my plug-ins are incompatible.
TheOffKid on Jun 17, 2008
Oh, a slight bug:
If I make my toolbars text-only, the page display jitters up and down by a range of about 3-5 pixels.
MrDOS on Jun 17, 2008
I've been running FF 3 since RC 1, so it's not even a noticeable change for me, but I've installed it. Go Firefox!

ff3 still has problems with some of the css on my site (background image shifted up a pixel; missing border), where ff2 handled it fine. i was hoping that would resolve itself once ff3 was out of beta, but i guess not.

Loving FF3. Had to laugh this morning when IT said they were upgrading IE on my machine to version 7. I was like: I've never used IE6, please leave me alone. Haha.

If you think your Firefox is running too slow, you can make some adjustments to speed it up:
1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:
network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests
Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.
2. Alter the entries as follows:
Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.
3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.
If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now!
Another way is using https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1269/
Its the same but easy & more tweaks. Simply install it as add on, might not be updated for FF3 yet.
These tips were given to me by a friend & my pages load a lot faster after I made the adjustments.
