Pirate Day (writing exercise)
I found this writing exercise and thought I'd pass it along, considering what today is.
Write a 24-line poem as if you were a pirate searching for buried treasure. Unfortunately, the treasure wasn't exactly what you expected. Somewhere in your poem you must use the line: But inside the chest was (fill in the blank).
Have fun!

OK, here's a pretty darn weak offering, but someone's got to get the ball rolling... :-p
Arr!
Avast, and yarr;
Wrack, roil, and rum.
There's treasure, me mateys,
On the high seas;
On a rock, I know
In Hispaniola.
Cast off!
Raise sail, weigh anchor;
Onto the bounding main.
'Tis Blackbeard's hoard
With pieces of eight,
On a rock, I know
In Hispaniola.
Yo ho!
We sing, through gale
And storm; under the
Skull and Crossbones;
Land ho! the cry;
There! a rock, I know
In Hispaniola.
We follow the map to the spot marked X
And dig with all our might; Alas! we find
The chest; but inside the chest was naught!
