New Site Using IB Icons

I've just about finished this new site for a restaurant (except for a few pesky little script and css issues).

I've used IB icons on all the head titles.

I hope I did the icons justice.

Check it out:

Nice! I like that you made them all grayscale so they'd match.

Greetings manon1165,

Nice site - it has a very pleasent UI. Is that Drupal? I especially like the note at the bottom: "Internet Explorer not recommended...". HA! That's great! Have you considered joining the IconBuffet firefox group? =o)

Great work!

Now I'm hungry. I need to find a date that likes French cuisine now. :D

manon1165 Vip-micro on Jan 26, 2008

@emanaton: It's Joomla! actually. Never used Drupal before. I think I will join the firefox group.

@miranoriel: I'm always hungry! Most of my clients are restaurants. Worst occupational hazard: expanding waistline!

miranoriel on Jan 26, 2008

I feel your pain. I am currently on a see-food diet myself. XD

Seriously, you did a great job on the site. It makes one want to keep poking around, and then you check out the menu, and then you see the tempting list of entrees, and then you get kinda hungry, and then you get up for a snack, and then you come back to click around some more... :-O

:D

louiemctool on Jan 26, 2008

Don't even bother to view in Internet Explorer.

LOL

thedudedean on Jan 27, 2008

I know of a script that makes IE people install firefox.

manon1165 Vip-micro on Jan 27, 2008

well i added my little spreadfirefox badge to the site. i figure after all the agita IE caused me, why not...

@thedudedean, so where can one find this script, not that i'd use it or anything, just curious, right?

Leona on Jan 27, 2008

I like it!

sloan on Jan 27, 2008

it's odd but adblock plus bocked the header image on my in firefox?

manon1165 Vip-micro on Jan 27, 2008

@sloan, why would it do that as it's not even an ad, just random images... i'm going to take a look - thanks for bringing to my attention!

manon1165 Vip-micro on Jan 27, 2008

well now i know. i'm using a banner plugin and it seems all banners are being blocked... will have to fix...

rossanyl on Jan 27, 2008

i did try it with IE and effectively there is some problems with the pages. Part of the right part (with the important info) seems to be hidden by the left part.
Just wanted to let you know...

manon1165 Vip-micro on Jan 27, 2008

@rossanyl: i think i fixed it. is the right part still hidden by the left part?

louiemctool on Jan 27, 2008

fyi:

firefox has a plug-in called IE Tab

it will switch to what seems to be an IE6 rendering engine, so that you can access sites that require IE in order to work. its also not bad for testing your css in IE without having to have both browsers open...

:)

manon1165 Vip-micro on Jan 27, 2008

@louiemctool: "IE Tab is not available for MacOSX." Well, that tears it... I'm going to look for something similar. Maybe they'll have it for my OS...

louiemctool on Jan 27, 2008

sorry. didn't see that...

:(

sloan on Jan 27, 2008

yup header is no longer blocked by adblock plus, sweet...however the header gets busy looking and blocked a lot when viewed at 800x600 (viewed with web developer addon with firefox at different sizes)

manon1165 Vip-micro on Jan 27, 2008

@sloan: well, i no longer design at 800x600 (most browser resolutions are 1024x768). which is why i put the little blurb at the bottom about the resolution.

anyway, most of the restaurant's customers are pretty upscale and wouldn't be at 800x600...

manon1165 Vip-micro on Jan 27, 2008

@sloan: o yeah, and what's the addon you're using, i'd like to get that one...

louiemctool on Jan 27, 2008

Web Developer

i love it. been using it for about six months or so, ever since anti clued me in...

:)

sloan on Jan 27, 2008

yes web developer (louie's link) is the greatest addon ever. So many cool things on it you will not believe how you lived without it once you try.

My mom and gramma still use 800 so I always look hehe.

With the addon you can set as many sizes as you want (edit resize dimensions tab)

My favorite feature is the live css edit feature that enables you to see changes real time

manon1165 Vip-micro on Jan 27, 2008

how funny, I do have Web Developer. just haven't used it in a while as i've just been using Xyle scope and CSSEdit. i think i'll go back and rediscover its joys...

louiemctool on Jan 27, 2008

yar.

i used to have an old compag CRT monitor as a primary display. seeing as how it was only like 14", tops, a resolution of 800x600 was not uncommon. i usually cranked it up to 1024x768, but i keep it in mind that SOMEONE out there is still using that monitor...

:)

rossanyl on Jan 27, 2008

@manon: Much better now but not perfect yet.
The right part and the left part don't touch each other now, that's the good part.
The problem now is the photo (kissing photo) is on top of some of the text.

misterhaan on Jan 28, 2008

my monitor is 1600x1200, but i keep my browser at 800x600 since most sites are easier to read at that size

webdezign on Jan 28, 2008

@louiemctool IE tab does not automatically render as IE6 it render like the IE version you have on your computer. Once you have upgraded IE to 7 that is what you see in your IE tab not 6. I also use web developer and IE tab, another good plugin is FireBug That is probably the most useful plugin of them all.

And nice job on the website manon

Jen on Jan 28, 2008

Manon, there is another plug in called IE view that you might do a search for and see if it comes up for Mac version.

manon1165 Vip-micro on Jan 28, 2008

@Jen, did a search fir IE View, came up with this: "IE View is a simple Mozilla and Mozilla Firefox extension (for Microsoft Windows systems)" O well, I use IE NetRenderer to see if my png images come out well on IE7.

@misterhaan and @louiemctool, I guess I'll tweak the site a little for 800x600, easy enough to do with CSS...

manon1165 Vip-micro on Jan 28, 2008

@rossanyl, check it out now, no more kissing photo on top of the text...

rossanyl on Jan 28, 2008

@manon: eh! nice effect!
I like that some photos (at the top) goes on top of the middle section while playing with the size of the browser and some photos (in the middle) goes below the middle part so they don't obscur the text.
Me likey :) Nice site, I like the style very much, it's fun to recognize the IB icons!
There is an icon missing in the location section (mapquest). Goo d job.

manon1165 Vip-micro on Jan 28, 2008

well, thank you!

i'm glad everyone has such a positive reaction to the site. the owner of the restaurant has two other restaurants that he wants me to design. so more going to be needing more fabulous IB icons.

can't wait for my next refill! (will be giving special consideration to everyone who helped me out here.)

AvantReese on Jan 28, 2008

Hey, I like the site, good work.

louiemctool: I used to use ietab, until I found out it has a memory leak! Since I've uninstalled it I've had much better/faster computing.

louiemctool on Jan 28, 2008

yeah, i've heard of the leak, but it hasen't been an issue for me, yet.

plus, it cracks me up to run windows update from within firefox...

:)

Denise on Jan 28, 2008

Kudos! Site is very good! BTW, I viewed it with IE with no problem!

sloan on Jan 28, 2008

looks great, checked it out in my 1440x900px and the popular 1024x768px and degrades nicely in 800x600px. Bravo...good job and it is so cool to see so many helpful people here too

manon1165 Vip-micro on Jan 28, 2008

@sloan, thanks so much.

i design a site first in photoshop using 1680x1050, but can only go as far down as 1280x800 on my iMac to test on a browser live, so this post has been a really big help.

thanks, everyone and cheers!

i think this site is now DONE!

sloan on Jan 28, 2008

I love happy endings...again great job...

joelcarlton Vip-micro on Feb 12, 2008

Great use of icons.

yaffer on Feb 14, 2008

great work. now you just need to find a good icon to replace the joomla favicon.
