HOSTING - Your professional experiences?

OK, since this is a community of web developers & designers (partly), I need your professional opinion.

What hosting company do you use and why?

I am asking because I simply need more for my money. My current host is excellent, but they simpy do not offer managed dedicated servers.

My Needs:

Unlimitted MySQL DB's (50 MB or more each)
At least 5 SQL Server DB's (100MB or more each)
ASP (Legacy), PHP4+, .NET 2.0+, site analytics, web control center, ability to manage DNS, IIS, Domain Pointers (need at least 50 extra domains).
And of course, the standard 500GB space, as much bandwidth for free as possible...

I don't want much. ;)

So, who do you LOVE and WHY?

I use Arvixe.

Dreamhost... been with them since 2002 and never had any issues. If they seem like a good fit for you, let me know. They have a nice referral bonus program too so I can give you a nice discount if you choose to go with them.

Feel free to whisper me with any questions.

I use (mt), since everyone I talked to at the time swore by it. Using (mt) has been a bit of a rollercoaster ride, but at this point I don't think I'll be moving anytime soon. As long as you don't need support, you should be fine.

FYI: I'm one of the few that still uses their old (ss) platform. The performance I get kicks ass, and I don't have any of their dumb MySQL or GPU limits. :)

Rackspace.

Dreamhost as well, and I like it there. Everyone on DH seems to have discount codes as well. Although I don't know if they can fill your Microsoft related needs.

I use a couple of Linux hosts who are very good. One in the UK and one in the US but don't touch Windoze hosts unless I have no choice due to a client already having bought the space.

I'm guessing it's not "more for [your] money" unless you are paying a lot, but I use Rackspace. They are the best I've found, hands down.

I'm not in love with any host now. I used to love Zipa, cuz they were cheap cheap cheap for my clients' tiny sites. But I've not been happy with the support or technology lately.

I have 3 that I use:
1 and 1 and have been with them for seems like forever, but probably 7+ years at least.
MidPhase been with them for a little more than a year. Had initial problems transferring a domain name to their server, but that was partly a Go Daddy issue as well.
Netfirms using them for the past year (just about renewal time).

I have at least 1 site on all of these services, and I cannot complain about any of them. One that I would avoid, as it is where my work's website is at, is InterLand (or whatever company has taken over from them - possibly PeerOne). They will make cahnges to your server without notice and then not know why your website is down, or not functioning. Our website has been unable to process an order since 11:00 pm Eastern on 5-24, because they made a blanket change to the group policies that removed access/communication between our website checkout and the SQL database that records those orders. At about 2:00 pm today (5-25) we got RDC and FTP access back, but still no order processing.

Thanks everyone, I am going to keep my existing host but was looking into new ones. Rackspace is too pricey right now. I only have 53 hosted domains, so not ready to go fully dedicated.

For myself, I have my own web servers, a Linux (Ubuntu right now, but changing it to FreeBSD) and a Windows box. I only have three clients that use third party hosting: I have worked with the local ISP (which is just fair) and Godaddy (haven't had any problems). My other clents have their own servers. Which actually turns out to be such a pain trying to work with their IT depts.

I love streamline.net. Mainly because i need tons of space for a particular project, and they give me unlimited hosting for £75 a year. That's awesome in my book, and they're pretty fast at responding to support tickets.

I use hostican which offers nice support and unlimited bandwitch!
