[Req] Better blog time-stamping
Currently, the time-stamp of a blog entry is not changed if the post is updated by the author. This means that in the list of posts on the blog forums page, "older" entries can appear above "newer" entries. And they should, because they've been updated. It's just that the time-stamp should be updated as well, perhaps changing "posted 3 hours ago" to "updated 20 minutes ago" if the post has been edited, or something?
This forum format makes it difficult enough to discern what's been posted since my last visit, and the time-stamp issue adds to the confusion. It's blatantly a non-issue at the moment, but we're just starting out. Quite soon we'll have pages and pages of posts (especially when the once-a-month'ers return to find a brand new site), and then this sort of thing will get really difficult to manage.
Thanks very much!
[Edit - 16th May 2007]: Since my definition of "better" includes this additional request, I thought I'd just update my original post instead of creating a new one.
Absolute timestamp intead of relative.
Now that our community is growing, the frequency of blog posts is also increasing, and so, consequently, is the frequency of hitting "refresh" on the site. This relative timestamping is a colossal pita that makes it really difficult to find what's been posted since my last visit. Absolute timestamps would go a long way toward ameliorating this process because May 16, 2007 3:45pm is a whole lot more informative than "20 minutes ago." This would be even better than having a cookie tell me what's new since my last visit, since my experience with various forum software is that for the most part, such cookies are really unreliable.
Basically I just want a way to read what's new since my last visit. If there's a way to have that while keeping the relative timestamps, that's fine too.
Cheers. =)

And on the subject of the blog, why is there no navigation built into the pages? I have to use my browser back button to go back to the main list. And I echo the need for something that says "show new since last login" or something.

You can go back to the list of posts at any time by clicking on the "Blog Forum" tab at the top of the page. Hope that helps.

The blog forum is definitely not final. We'll be improving it as we go. Thanks for the suggestion!

Well, going to the top of the page to hit the Blog Forum button, is almost as bad as having to hit the back button. Worse if there are a lot of posts and you have to scroll all the way back up to the top of the page.

@gswd: You can also click on the Blog Forum link at the bottom of the page, so you're covered in both directions. =]

Or just use the Home button on your keyboard. ;)
And in the same vein, use the End button to get to the newest entries at the bottom of a page when opening a thread/blog with many posts.

How about paging navigation links at the bottom of the blog post page as well like the ones in the blog forum page?
Then when there're 100s of replies the blog page can load faster.
