Welcome to the new Buffet
Howdy Friends!
Well, after a decent wait we're pleased to welcome you to the new IconBuffet! While a much longer post is forthcoming that details many of the updates and changes made to the site, it'll have to wait a day or so.
Now that we're rolling this out, we're packing our bags to head to SXSW tomorrow. We'll be hanging out on on the forum here, so feel free to mix and mingle. If you find bugs (which I'm sure you will), drop us a line at chef at iconbuffet dot com.
I can't promise you'll get a reply right away, but we are reading and enjoying them. Meanwhile, you'll want to make some friends, invite some friends, and trade some icons.
We love you. Seriously, thanks for making IconBuffet a raging success. And if you see us at SXSW, ask us for a sticker. We'll hook you up.
Josh

Dig it!

I personally much preferred the old forum.
naoutatsu on Mar 09, 2007
I prefer the previous iconbuffet, now i cannot send icons to my existing friends with the iconbuffet account.
naoutatsu on Mar 09, 2007
Is there a way to change my username?
smita on Mar 09, 2007
i want more icons
Wile on Mar 09, 2007
the former version of the forum was betten, i think ...
Just a remark : why presenting a "new icons" place on top of the free deliveries ? In that way, there's no place to look at all icon sets i have (i got them all in fact) ...
Where is the number of free deliveries I can still make ? Or am I missing something ?
but I like the new iconset presentation in the free delivery page, and details when I clic onto it ...
Wile on Mar 09, 2007
One more thing, the icon sets are chronologically displayed, why not have a sort option to view them in alphabetical order for instance ? This should be easier to look at which one you have or don't ...
naoutatsu on Mar 09, 2007
is there a history for the points & token we accumulate & spend?
liru on Mar 09, 2007
Great look & feel.

Ahh... man many questions. For starters, check your profile page. You'll find a list of everything there that you have / don't have, etc. And you can sort them by name. The new site is definitely a departure from the old, but as we all get used to it, it'll start to come together quite well.
The number of deliveries you can now make is called Stamps. Most deliveries will cost you 1 stamp to send. Although some may cost you 3 or 5. Everyone from the old site will have new stamps to use. I'll cover this in another post shortly. Fun fun fun.
tamashii on Mar 09, 2007
The Free Deliveries are more confusing than ever! No longer can I view all my collections on a single, more efficient page. Gone are the days of ease-of-use in making deliveries!
I am not saying I hate it 100%, but I am really not pleased with the new set up. I am confused, lost and afraid. Change can be good, but there was nothing wrong (in my opinion) with the old site/forum to warrant such a drastic set of changes.

I keep getting an error when attempting to send deliveries
jc on Mar 09, 2007
Tamashii, we just squashed a bug. Go check out your profile page. You can see all your existing deliveries and the deliveries you still need to collect. You can also send deliveries from this page.
mrw on Mar 09, 2007
what are points for?
mrw on Mar 09, 2007
stamp numbers go up and down. why?
josh
on Mar 09, 2007
Ahh, points... well, who knows what points are for. That's still a secret. For now they're just for bragging. But soon... soon...
mrw on Mar 09, 2007
why do i need to buy tokenss? the number never cahnges
josh
on Mar 09, 2007
MRW: If someone rejects a delivery from you, you get your stamps back.
mrw on Mar 09, 2007
why would someone reject me?
josh
on Mar 09, 2007
mrw: your delivery might be rejected if they did not want to spend their tokens on that specific set, or if they're expected that set from somewhat else.
iconmaster on Mar 09, 2007
mrw: If the recipient has no tokens and can't accept your delivery, rejecting it is actually the courteous thing to do -- it gets you your stamps back immediately.
mrw on Mar 09, 2007
my tokens don't go down when i accept - i still have 10
mrw on Mar 09, 2007
@iconmaster - so why can i send something that cant be recieved?
tamashii on Mar 09, 2007
This site absolutely fails on IE6.
Personally, I use Firefox on a Mac, but I just invited my better half and she, of course, is on PC. And using IE. Site is breaking all over the place in that browser.
Just lettin' you guys know. She loves the site though, despite not being able to really do anything on it.
iconmaster on Mar 09, 2007
mrw, it can be received when they get more tokens. If the token cycle is about to rollover, they might leave your delivery pending until their tokens reset and they can spend them.
iconmaster on Mar 09, 2007
tamashii -- we're working on that. Thanks.
tamashii on Mar 09, 2007
awesome!
yes - i am getting more and more excited about all of this.
mrw on Mar 09, 2007
@iconmaster - ok but i just snet a lot to optimus and pissed him off because he couldn't tak e them
mrw on Mar 09, 2007
@josh i have 150 points is that good?
mrw on Mar 09, 2007
@ tamashii - tell your girl to get IE7
iconmaster on Mar 09, 2007
mrw -- optimus is my test account. :) Not upset in the least, just wanted to make sure you knew why I had to refuse the deliveries.
mrw on Mar 09, 2007
so now i see that the person can't take my icons which ic good. but shoudn't the gift box go away before i get the window?
Dominik on Mar 09, 2007
So how can I associate my account with an openID?
josh
on Mar 09, 2007
Dominik: I'm sorry this isn't more clear yet (we're working on some nice, instructive text). Simply logout, then log back in using your OpenID. You'll be taken to a second page that asks you to either create a new account or link your OpenID with an existing account. Enter your old account details, and you'll be linked up and set. Boo yah!
tamashii on Mar 09, 2007
@mrw - as with most companies, users are not necessarily allowed to install new/updated software on their machines. Asking the little lady to switch to a browser that actually works (namely, anything not made by Microsoft) is useless.

Brilliant re-launch, just one minor request.
Any chance of straight PayPal for payments? I would be buying icons except I'm on a UK Maestro card!

Well, I for one an excited to play around with the new system! (And I really like the integrated forum, too!) It might all be a little bit confusing at first, but I think I'll get the hang of it. :)

Paypal payments are something we're looking into. Thanks for letting us know.

timely bump, as well …
gswd on Mar 11, 2008
of course this year they didn't say anything about asking them for a sticker, they wanted to sell you a rat shirt.
