Today's Downtime

Many of you have noticed some flaky performance issues at the Buffet over the last few weeks. We just took the site offline about an hour ago to repair some hardware issues. The repairs have been made, and we're back up and running again. Thanks everyone for your patience.

thanks for the repairs guys! on stuff like that, can you guys post offline times? some of us addicts start to twitch...

soprano on Jul 18, 2007

Yeah, thanks. Could you change the error 500 page to reflect that the downtime is intentional? That would be a lot more reassuring while the server's down.

josh Vip-micro on Jul 18, 2007

Normally it would be our preference to do that. We're working on some safeguards to ensure that this is a bit smoother should it happen again. Hopefully it won't. I hate hardware issues.

GnomeyNewt on Jul 18, 2007

Glad you could go in there and work out the issue! Reality is that all servers need to go down sometimes. Less than 1 hour downtime is not bad at all.

@soprano: The concept is a good one, but not as easy to put in place as you think.

How about a Tweet?

i think it's a good place to go to get info when IB is misbehaving, since IB may not be able to give an update!

Ye may be out of dry dock but there still be no wind in yer sails. Did ye remember to raise anchor?

seanhussey on Jul 18, 2007

iqon, you're amazing. How do you keep up the pirate talk? :)

Kuifje Vip-micro on Jul 18, 2007

Seems like they raised the anchor - was painful there for a while.

SmockLady on Jul 18, 2007

iQon keeps up the pirate talk, because he IS a pirate. Right, Mate?

iqon on Jul 18, 2007

Ye mean me talk not be normal? ARRRRR, no wonder the blast'd monkey always be laughing at me.

bjendrick on Jul 19, 2007

iqon on Jul 19, 2007

bdelisio on Jul 19, 2007

Looks like there are still some issues to be resolved.

travisseitler on Jul 19, 2007

I concur.

anti on Jul 19, 2007

The assertion is warranted.

iqon on Jul 19, 2007

{sigh}

MacManX on Jul 19, 2007

There is some slowness to be expected during the first 10 minutes of every hour, so I don't bother to visit during those few minutes. Otherwise, I haven't noticed any problems today.

JBVisions on Jul 19, 2007

Really! I have to admit I've not been checking the actual time it happens, just how long it takes to do anything.

anti on Jul 19, 2007

It seems that the top of the hour bug no longer applies. Now it is the Breakfast Hour in Texas bug. Or some such.

FallenAngel on Jul 19, 2007

That makes it the Afternoon Tea bug in the UK. I waited about 15 minutes for a page to load this afternoon.

jmnovak on Jul 19, 2007

I've seen that 'first 10 minutes of the hour' effect before, though the recent delays don't seem to fit that pattern. Today's been somewhat off and on (OK for me at the moment), not really correlating with the hour...

FallenAngel on Jul 19, 2007

I'm awaiting the monkey's assessment of the situation. ;-)

jmnovak on Jul 19, 2007

That monkey sure gets around...

zelda013 on Jul 19, 2007

whatever would we do without that monkey ? we'd be lost. oh noes, smoke monster ! monkey, where are you ?
