Super TOP SECRET Update - PART 4

On we go with PART 4.

It's been a long week, and I'm about to crash... but a few more ket details to keep you intrigued. Yes, it is web-based. We are making very good progress. Also, new IB free deliveries are on the way. Okay, more about the game...

Friends will be very important. In fact, you'll probably struggle without friends.

There will be an element of strategy involved.

You will want to collect them all.

They are not all created equal.

You do not want to get starfished.

You really, really do not want to get starfished.

Wow! Really descriptive. (First comment!)

Psy2k on Oct 05, 2007

Can't wait!!!

dustybunny on Oct 05, 2007

wow so our teams of friends (clans) sound like they could be important.

what's starfished mean?

elnitido52 on Oct 05, 2007

And?...

elnitido52 on Oct 05, 2007

Also, new IB free "deliveries" are on the way

I can only see one free delivery...
Means this month will be worst than September? In terms of free deliveries...
Dyar, please take note...
Cheiie, more tokens to be wasted. Sorry!

gswd on Oct 05, 2007

E-52, and this is news how? I know that not everybody had all the sets when the game started, and I kid because I love.

I do not think I have used all of my tokens ever in a month. I just hope that Keegan isn't coding the game. The widget has been broken for awhile, and no announcement that it has been fixed.

opello on Oct 05, 2007

Starfished?

But radial symmetry is all the rage!

elnitido52 on Oct 05, 2007

@gswd: They don't care about anything by now but the new game, not stamps coming back, one or two sets per week, people wasting their tokens...

louiemctool on Oct 05, 2007

i've heard the term "starfished" before. it's not exactly appropriate language for an "all-ages" forum like IB...

shame, shame, joshy-boy...

:p

louiemctool on Oct 05, 2007

for those who really need to know, to be starfished means to be knocked out, as josh is using it...

it also has many other meanings that are DEFINITELY not appropriate...

:)

redpoint on Oct 05, 2007

Yeap, urban dictionary have several nasty definitions. I would consider looking for a different term.

Candee on Oct 05, 2007

Starfished

chiskop on Oct 06, 2007

Err, thanks Candee. Yep, I can confir mthat you definitely don't wan to be starfished.

Steax on Oct 06, 2007

Collect them all? I really hope this means the IB definition, not the Pokemon definition. =P

Gry on Oct 06, 2007

Am I the only one having problems emailing the chefs? Josh, if you're reading this, I've been trying to send an email to chef@iconbuffet.com and it just keeps bouncing back.

Pootee2 on Oct 06, 2007

yes i really need to email iconbuffet and it keeps getting bounced please fix it

dyar on Oct 06, 2007

Yep, email has been broken for weeks. You would think it would be an easy thing to fix if they really wanted to.

josh Vip-micro on Oct 06, 2007

That's very weird about the chef email addy. We're looking into it.

JBVisions on Oct 06, 2007

Errrr but I emailed JC last week and he replied.

dyar on Oct 06, 2007

If you emailed him directly it might have worked but chef@ doesn't

JBVisions on Oct 06, 2007

Nope, as much as I am a valued member of the community I'm not so valued that I get personal email addresses. Sent it via chef@

elnitido52 on Oct 06, 2007

We've been starfished again...

PrateekSaxena on Oct 07, 2007

Is it like if i dont have "X" icon and "Y" icon then I cant have "Z" icon. I mean will there something like a requirement of icons to get a particular icon? Or 2 icons coming together to make new icons?

Cant wait for the new game ^_^

FallenAngel on Oct 07, 2007

One thing I'm confused about is the blog title "Super TOP SECRET Update"...if the update's top secret, then surely posting it on the blog makes it extremely un-secret, as everyone can then read it. Come to think of it, a top secret update wouldn't be much use anyway as if it was *that* secret, no-one would be able to read it, which kind of defeats the object of it.

Now if we're talking about the game, then that's not really a secret either, because having gone from being "a cool thing" ETA unknown, we now know it is indeed a game, but what we don't know is what the game involves, except friends, strategies, collecting things, and starfish. Now as previously mentioned by Josh, IIRC pirates figure somewhere in this game, and of course many Pirates keep starfish as pets (except for iQon who traded his in for a monkey), so maybe getting starfished has something to do with getting beaten up by the killer starfish that Pirates keep as pets. Of course the Geek Girls keep little penguins as pets (especially cute little ones), so it seems unlikely that getting starfished has geeky connotations. Who knows what the Ninjas keep as pets! They're so damned sneaky, sneaking around the place looking menacing and killing things, that I've never been able to get close enough to one to ask what they keep as pets.

As for the emails, I fear the problem is that you're just not rolling the bits of paper up small enough to fit in the tubes and pipes and things that IB runs on, so they're getting stuck. Roll 'em smaller and they'll go fine.

<grin>

I'll go and take my medication now... ;-)

rossanyl on Oct 07, 2007

FA - I just looove your logic :)

FallenAngel on Oct 07, 2007

<grin>

gswd on Oct 07, 2007

Since the knowledge and skills that the ninjas use is based from the orient, I figure that they have oriental elemental dragons as pets.

terremom Vip-micro on Oct 08, 2007

At my age I know I'm old enough to hear anything, but I don't understand the term 'starfish'. Am I too old to W-a-n-t to know what it means? I realyy want to know about the new game and be able to compete with the young kids.

zadow on Oct 08, 2007

what u mean?

tamashii on Oct 08, 2007

From the link Candee posted, it seems a rather UK-specific term to be used in the way some of you are balking at. I think it is pretty clear that "being starfished" refers to the sea animal and not something closer to a Vonnegut joke.

I am getting more intrigued by the minute regarding this game. I don't mind losing tokens for now. Matter of fact, I am still impressed that the chefs were cranking out more than the 4 sets per month that was the M.O. prior. They'll get back up and running full-steam and you guys will, once again, no longer be able to catch up with your icon collections.

72dpi on Oct 08, 2007

Starfished?
Is that similar to a "Sea Enema"
or is that Anenome?. Arrrrrrrrrr.

JBVisions on Oct 08, 2007

If it is a UK specific term then I'm afraid it passed me by and I've always been pretty good at English. Probably because I was born here ;o)

debbye on Oct 08, 2007

@72dpi - Starfished?
Is that similar to a "Sea Enema"

ROTFLMAO - good one!

tamashii on Oct 08, 2007

@JB: the Urban Dictionary link says, "This was originated in the north east england, more specificly middlesbrough, back in the 1990's."

I have never heard the term ever used like that (or at all, really).

And, hehe, just because a word/term is in English, doesn't mean it necessarily has anything to do with the country it originated in (fob; for example). Nor would being born in the country of origin necessarily imply being good at comprehending its mother language. ;p

louiemctool on Oct 08, 2007

like i said: no ninja penguin means <bleep> the new game, as far as i care. less IB Pirates means more geek girl tokens for me, here...

:)

terremom Vip-micro on Oct 08, 2007

Forget sea creatures. Sorry I don't want to know that badly. Just bring on game!

MiCCAS on Oct 09, 2007

Will it be linked in with IB or will it be a whole new system?

JBVisions on Oct 09, 2007

Nor would being born in the country of origin necessarily imply being good at comprehending its mother language. ;p

Cheeky B. You're for it now. ;o)
Anyway, North of England don't speak English. Seems they also have some very odd habits that don't occur elsewhere.

leisenstein on Oct 09, 2007

Any kind of ETA yet?

dustybunny on Oct 09, 2007

@leisenstein

From Part 3 -
Finally, the game will show its face before the end of the October.

elnitido52 on Oct 09, 2007

Oktoberfest celebration...

Nice on Oct 09, 2007

What is it?

justG Vip-micro on Oct 09, 2007

As much as I'm looking forward to this new project, I'm cranky, so:

- Fix IB first.

- Everything on the freaking web has some social aspect to it now. Having a social aspect is fine, making the user experience suck if one doesn't dig the social aspect isn't so fine. I'll reserve final judgment for when we actually get to check out the new project, but until then, I'm cranky about the fact that it'll be a "struggle without friends."

Apologies for the crankiness. I'll get back to shiny happy[1] if the site stays as zippy as it is now.

[1] Okay not really.

josh Vip-micro on Oct 10, 2007

apologies accepted G. We're working hard to keep the Buffet greased.

As for keeping up with friends, we have some thoughts on how we're going to keep that manageable.

debbye on Oct 10, 2007

i hope i'm not repeating someone else's post, i have been trying to follow these "Super TOP SECRET Updates" but … i do get a tad confused at times!

i was wondering, since this game has to do with icons or uses icons or some such … could these be the inspiration for the next Diamond set released to the VIPs?

if not … maybe the Chef's could arrange them into the next Diamond set released to the VIPs?

justG Vip-micro on Oct 10, 2007

"As for keeping up with friends, we have some thoughts on how we're going to keep that manageable."

Glad to hear it, thanks for the reassurance. =)

72dpi on Oct 10, 2007

Hey JOsh, does IB have a facebook App?, if No, do you want one? =)

fineartdavid on Oct 10, 2007

In a feeble attempt to gain some friends so late in the day, check my profile and drop me a line if you want any of the sets I have.

Guess I'll have to hangout somewhere other than facebook for a while!

rossanyl on Oct 11, 2007

no update this week?!?

FallenAngel on Oct 11, 2007

The Fallen One is still confused....but that's not really news... ;-)

Psy2k on Oct 12, 2007

We need an update this week :) Waiting for Part 5!

travisseitler on Oct 12, 2007

Just saw this in Facebook:

Updated: John Marstall and Josh Williams joined the group Facebook Developers Dallas.

Wonder if it's related... ;)

soprano on Oct 13, 2007

Yeah, I saw that too…

I don't think they have any public Facebook apps yet, though.

iqon on Oct 13, 2007

Starfished?!?!?!? UK-specific?!?!?!

Fred Durst be from my geographic location in America and in 2000 his band Limp Bizkit released the album Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water. There be much speculation about the title. Like most Limp Bizit recordings it not be for children. Aye this be the album making several list including "Q magazine's 50 worst albums of all time" and debuted #1 on Billboard on its way to selling 12 million copies worldwide. Nothin' like havin' the theme song to a major movie.

elnitido52 on Oct 13, 2007

Pirate Knowledge...arrr...

opello on Oct 14, 2007

Hrm... IconBuffet Facebook ... could be interesting.

rossanyl on Oct 15, 2007

Part 5? Part 5? Where are you ?

tessa on Oct 15, 2007

Wow, sounds like pokemon.

...but with starfish, obviously.

gswd on Oct 15, 2007

Wasn't there a starfish monster in pokemon?

soprano on Oct 16, 2007

WHERE IS PART 5? :(
