Is VIP available via PayPal?

May '08 Update: Hey folks,

Just a quick update that we no longer offer the PayPal option for VIP memberships. To simplify things, we changed a few months ago to monthly credit card memberships only.

Thanks, as always, for being part of 'Buffet!

------------ previous post ------------

So we can now accept PayPal payments for annual VIP memberships. If you would like to purchase an annual IconBuffet VIP membership, send us an email to "chef at iconbuffet dot com" with the subject line "IconBuffet VIP PayPal." We'll send you a payment link later today for $48. Once paid, we'll credit your account, and you'll be able to sign up for an annual membership.

We will not be taking PayPal payments for month-to-month memberships. Our month-to-month subscription plan only works with a credit card payment. This will not be changed anytime soon. Lemme know if you have questions. Otherwise send us an email and we'll hook you up. Thanks a ton!

Hi Josh,

I don't think that I will sign up for the extra tokens (I don't need to have a icon sets within a short time)

Maybe you have some other good arguments, and please don't mention I have to join because I give something back to IB, I'm also a customer :)

christopher on Apr 03, 2007

Any chance of say, paying quarterly by Paypal? Or a UK payment processing system?

:) I still love iB either way!

josh Vip-micro on Apr 03, 2007

Sorry Christopher. Annual is the only option. I understand if that doesn't work for you, but Annual and Month-to-Month payments are the only options.

christopher on Apr 03, 2007

Fair dos - i understand you can only do so much!

I might do it at some point for a mnoth as it works out at only £5 inc charges over here which is a lot better than i expected!

Betty on Apr 03, 2007

OK-I'm a paypal vip now.
Process is slightly confusing--after finishing paypal, you need to log in and enter info on the shopping cart page. No big deal, just wanted to pass along the info.

josh Vip-micro on Apr 03, 2007

Yeah, Betty... you're part of the uh, PayPal VIP beta test. It works... just not quite a seamless as we would like. But we hate to keep dragging out folks' ability to upgrade, when technically it does work. Thanks so much!

Betty on Apr 03, 2007

You're welcome-and thanks. Glad to be of beta service here at the buffet.

fuseunderground on Apr 04, 2007

What info do you enter, and where do you enter it?

MiCCAS on Apr 04, 2007

awww.. I feel so left out not being a VIP :(

Betty on Apr 04, 2007

fuse-after you get the blinksale receipt page go back to the buffet and go to your shopping cart. Click on the one year option, then enter name/address info and submit. That's what I did and then the vip showed up.

fuseunderground on Apr 04, 2007

Thanks for the info, I've sorted it now

josh Vip-micro on Apr 05, 2007

Bumping this again, since folks are asking.

Jem on Apr 09, 2007

I sent you an email a couple of days ago but haven't received a payment link? Should I have included my username in the mail?

josh Vip-micro on Apr 09, 2007

Hey Jem, we're catching up from the weekend. You should receive a link soon. Thanks for your patience!

Jem on Apr 10, 2007

Got it this morning, thanks!

Jem on Apr 10, 2007

OK, so I've paid. Gone to the cart page, entered in my address but it still wants a valid credit card number before it'll let me proceed?

josh Vip-micro on Apr 10, 2007

Jem : make sure you select Annual VIP (not monthly). It will require a CC for monthly, but not the annual subscription.

Jem on Apr 11, 2007

D'oh. I could have sworn I did the first time, I have no idea what I did there.. hah. Sorry :S

josh Vip-micro on Apr 14, 2007

Bumping this because people have been asking again. Woot!

dyar on Apr 14, 2007

Slghtly OT, but at least VIP related.

Was it ever finalized on how many Tokens you get and when if you go on the monthly VIP program?

justG on Apr 14, 2007

VIP = 30 tokens/mo., monthly or otherwise, afaik. When? The date you upgrade becomes your refill date.

Hope that helps.

josh Vip-micro on Apr 16, 2007

Bumping for the PayPal folks.

Finah Vip-micro on Apr 16, 2007

Thanx Josh!! i just used up my last token.. so i might be upgrading in the next week..actually i'm waiting for my next check.. but i should be able to budget it in :D

redwolf on Apr 17, 2007

I'm selecting VIP Annual and still getting the Cc number is invalid error.

There are two issues that could be throwing a spanner in the works. My PayPal account is different to my IB login and IB got my name wrong (a common mistake due to having a n odd name). I've changed both to match the invoice and still no joy.

redwolf on Apr 17, 2007

Found the bug.

The phone field does not like non-digit characters. I routinely add the +61 country code when using a phone number for any overseas company. Looks like you'll have to figure out the country code on your own.

iconmaster on Apr 17, 2007

Looks like it worked!

redwolf on Apr 18, 2007

Yep. After a little bafflement, I'm upgraded. Thanks, guys!

dyar on Apr 28, 2007

I can't believe this had drifted over to page 7, where's that search function.

Here's a little tip for PayPal users that will save you a little on your Icon Buffet VIP Membership. If you have a PayPal Debit Card enter that card number in the Regular VIP Signup Form along with your other information. PayPal will see it as a Credit Card transaction and you will get 1 1/2% cash back.

Don't know about International Transactions though.

silentdream on May 01, 2007

So, I payed with Paypal but it says Due to security restrictions, orders cannot be placed at this time, what is it?

tonyrayo on May 17, 2007

Josh, just be careful about using PayPal (personally I would recommend using Google Checkout, but I'm not sure if you are more comfortable with the PayPal API compared to Google's). PayPal has a rather bad reputation of locking down accounts even if one person uses a stolen credit card for example (even if you do everything right). If you do choose to use them, be sure to cash out your money often =). PayPal used to offer 5$ for signing up, I don't know if they still do but I know Google is still offering 10$ off of your first order. Just FYI that I'm sure you are already aware of.

tonyrayo on May 17, 2007

http://checkout.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=48115 <= Also Google Checkout is supported in all of these countries and they are running a promotion where you (the seller) won't have to pay any charges or gateway fees for the rest of 2007 =).

josh Vip-micro on May 17, 2007

Tony, thanks for your concern. We've actually been using PayPal for IconBuffet products for years. We're certainly aware of the issues surrounding their service, but for the time being it's definitely a stronger development environment than that of Google Checkout.

epidemix on May 17, 2007

I would pay $7 monthly through PayPal to make up for the fees. I just can't do the annual thing.

tonyrayo on May 18, 2007

I figured you knew what you were doing Josh, just a heads up. I'm sure lots more people have PayPal accounts than Google accounts, probably thanks to eBay. Also epidemix I dig the Ignignokt icon. Once you load up on tokens, feel free to stop by my box and request any icon set I have and I'll send them right over =).

tonyrayo on May 18, 2007

I figured you knew what you were doing Josh (you guys are great coders and artists, I wish Firewheel Design had internships =). Also I figured the new Google Checkout users would get a couple months of icons free and you wouldn't have to worry about any overhead; but come 2008 a re-code would have to be done, thus a time-bomb just waiting.

I'm sure a lot more people have PayPal accounts too than Google Checkout accounts, probably thanks to eBay. Also epidemix I dig the Ignignokt icon. Once you load up on tokens, feel free to stop by my box and request any icon set I have and I'll send them right over =).

Finah Vip-micro on Jun 16, 2007

Okay, i've finally reached the point where i can sign up now -- is this still the current way to use pay pal? I want to sign up after my tokens refill July 10th -- i know its silly, but i want to keep roughly the same refill date :^D
thanx

danielsemper on Aug 05, 2007

Josh, I also made the PayPal payment this morning, can you see what else is needed to do with my account to have the VIP account and its tokens :D

a2 on Aug 06, 2007

I hope at some point you will consider doing the month to month via PayPal. I'd be more likely to sign up then.

Reiji Vip-micro on Nov 12, 2007

Think I may get some money into my paypal to go VIP since the system don't appear to like my credit card.

Reiji Vip-micro on Mar 16, 2008

I've sent some emails but haven't got an answer yet...it is still possible to sign up via paypal?

gswd on Mar 16, 2008

It seems to take a while for the chefs to respond to emails in general.

MacManX Vip-micro on Mar 17, 2008

I recommend giving them at least three days to respond. They recently moved to a new office and the launched PackRat, their very first Facebook application, so I'd say that it's reasonable to assume that it might take more time than usual for them to respond.

Rest-assured, when they do see your request to sign up for VIP via PayPal, they'll probably say, "Oops, I should have read this sooner!"

elnitido52 on Mar 20, 2008

No response yet...well, things arrr... really getting tough here...

MacManX Vip-micro on Mar 21, 2008

No kidding! I'd expect Reiji to have his VIP badge by now. I mean, all he wants to do is give the developers some money. Are they too busy working on the next icon set? Is it going to be "IB RIP"? Or, are they too busy working on PackRat?

otherbrian Vip-micro on Mar 21, 2008

We handle account-specific questions via email. We got back to Reiji right away and always respond within one business day to any questions. If you need any help, just shoot an email to chef at iconbuffet dot com. Thanks!

MacManX Vip-micro on Mar 22, 2008

Ah, ok. I just thought that if his email was handled, then he would have a VIP badge by now, but I guess that I was assuming too much. My mistake, sorry.

zolidomi on May 09, 2008

DON'T SIGN UP!!

I did, and I've been trying to cancel my membership since last August with no result.
Chef keeps charging my card every month, I get to dispute it every month. Now my bank is going to investigate it. I've left numerous voice mails and sent emails, no answer. Not one. I know it doesn't seem far to put it out in the open, I have no choice. It's not about the $6 per month, that's only a cup of coffee, but for the fact he doesn't have the courtesy to respond.

icbumari on May 15, 2008

CHEF! YOU HAVE MAIL!! =D

otherbrian Vip-micro on May 15, 2008

We sent you an email zolidomi - if you don't receive it, please contact us at chef at iconbuffet dot com or post another message here. Sorry to say we don't show any previous emails from you, unless they are somehow being flagged as spam. Sorry you've had trouble contacting us!

Psy2k on May 15, 2008

Can we pay for annual VIP memberships via paypal now? Or there is only the option for month-to-month from here?

otherbrian Vip-micro on May 15, 2008

The VIP option is month-to-month via credit card.

SawanM Vip-micro on May 15, 2008

Why, can't it be a monthly subscription via PayPal?

debbye on May 15, 2008

no annual VIP, anymore, according to some chefness i read …

icbumari on May 15, 2008

Yeah, just read that in an email but where does it tell us??? I want to rejoin for another year but can only do PayPal/echeque directly from my bank - I'm good for the funds but now, NO PAYPAL? I'm really P'd off!!!!
