IB ReallyMe
I thought I'd start a new group here!
Look at my avatar: that's me - really me! I just made a new version that's a little better at 48x48 than what the automatic resizing on the site came up with. (And that thing on my head is a real Aussie hat, which has made many travels with me already - people recognize me by my aussie hat!)
So... who else has an avatar that's a true portrait of yourself? Photo or cartoon, current or you as a child, that's OK. Just as long as it's really you!
If you have an avatar that qualifies, just add IB ReallyMe to one of the boxes in your profile, so we can easily see who isn't hiding behind a kitten, a car, a hopping rabbit or their collection of free icons. ;)
(Mik, if you really wear red shoes, that would qualify as a portrait, ...I think. And to take up emanaton's submission: body parts - as long as they can be shown in polite company - are of course admissible (inked or not): a limit to faces only would be discriminatory, wouldn't it? I'd add that a (recognizable) shadow of yourself counts as well.)
_______________________
Update I've been very busy lately and not been able to spend as much time here as I'd like to. It seems I've missed a lot of recent "excitement" here - and a little clarification for the idea behind IB ReallyMe is in order.
First and foremost, IB ReallyMe is for people who proudly show their real face in their avatar - or at least a recognizable body part (we'll keep things kid-friendly though, won't we?). In other words: show who you really are.
But I also understand that occasionally people will want to protest something or show their support for a cause - and do so in their avatar. In fact, that's another aspect of "really you", though not the visual one intended here.
Soooo... let's say if the "special avatar" is temporary, intended to support a cause or protest, that's fine, as long 95% of the time your avatar still shows "really you". Do your own counting. OK?
I'd really love to see more people joining. I actually see a lot of avatars that at least suggest it's really you - so what are you waiting for? Join!

That's really me too, only all... squishy. I'm too lazy to optimize the image. LOL
emanaton on Jan 31, 2008
I see your red shoes and raise you a tattoo... yes, that's part of an ink-job that's on some part of my body... 'nuff said.

So... How ironic is it that iamback is not yet showing up in IB ReallyMe?!
iamback on Jan 31, 2008
@emanaton: Eh? I am not showing up?
I have no idea but it sounds like a bug(let) rather than "ironic" - look at my profile page and you can see I really have the tag in my profile. True, when I click on any of my tags (like New Scientist) I don't see myself - I though that was intentional...
Drat - do I have to start yet another trouble-shooting blog post? Do you see yourself when clicking through on any of your own tags?
anti on Jan 31, 2008
@ iamback You need to join Stuff that don't count.
robbyrice on Jan 31, 2008
well, normally I think you are supposed to see yourself (I always see myself in my tags). I clicked through the tags on your profile and didn't see you in there. You might want to contact the chefs about that. Just out of curiosity, have you tried logging out and then logging back in?
anti on Jan 31, 2008
It's a feature, not a bug.
iamback on Jan 31, 2008
weeerd - I do see myself in IB Geek Girls, I don't see myself in IB mac clan and IB Really Me.
Is there a pattern?
iamback on Jan 31, 2008
@anti: I joined "Stuff that don't count". Not that I show up there. :(
robbyrice on Jan 31, 2008
@anti - what's the feature?
anti on Jan 31, 2008
The feature is the ability to join Stuff that don't count! :D
robbyrice on Jan 31, 2008
ok, gotcha :o)
elnitido52 on Jan 31, 2008
arrr...
iamback on Jan 31, 2008
@elnitido52: I don't think that counts as a portrait ;)
@emanaton: I now show up in IB ReallMe (at least for myself - please check!)
(Those REs definitely need adjusting. <grumblegrumble>)
anti on Jan 31, 2008
Yep, that does look like you. :D
sloan on Jan 31, 2008
Sometime you have to shuffle the entry around in your profile to diff, categories and it will show up
mik on Jan 31, 2008
Highly honored to have merited specific mention but sadly, no, these are not my real ankles.
iamback on Jan 31, 2008
@mik, I'm so disappointed... can't let you in then I'm afraid!
iqon on Jan 31, 2008
ARRRR, this be ReallyMe (and me monkey). Me be the one with fur. . . on me face.
iamback on Feb 01, 2008

That's just rhetoric, as opposed to ridicule, which is tangible and real.

oxy maroon : Stranded on and island with a combination of contradictory or incongruous words (as cruel kindness); broadly : something (as a concept) that is made up of contradictory or incongruous elements with only coconuts to eat

I've seen iqon and his lovely wife (sadly his monkey was home mindin' the kiddies); that' really him. Fortunately, THIS is NOT me. Been thinking about a new avatar. Now I'm sure; will fin a good photo and upload soon. Thanks for encouranging me iamback. Take care, Terre
jjmcgaffey on Feb 01, 2008
Ok, I don't get to join ReallyMe...but iamback, I just had to ask - how did you get a picture of me for your icon???
I swear. Same face, same grin - well, my glasses are rimless - same HAT! Though mine's from Ireland, not Australia.
Lookit!
sloan on Feb 01, 2008
this be the real me too, I'm da...
misterhaan on Feb 01, 2008
i am once again reallyme, but it's a picture from a few years ago.
debragail on Feb 01, 2008
This is me the last time I looked cute. The older I get, the cuter I aint.
iamback on Feb 02, 2008
@terremom: something made me believe iqon. ;) Please do join once you have a portrait-avatar then!
@jjmcgaffey: that's uncanny! your hat looks more floppy than mine but that's about the only difference (and hard to see at 48x48). My picture was made of me some years ago when a colleague's daughter interviewed me for a school project; I cut out the messy background and have been using it as an avatar ever since. You can see some variants here (try the first link in "Who? Me?"). When I travel I often try to make a self portrait in a local setting - one of those (a shadow, also with hat!) I've been using as an alternative avatar.
@misterhaan: that looks recognizable enough (even if you don't have green hair any more) - so join!
@debragail: who cares if it's cute (it is)? And I didn't say it has to be recent (in fact, I did say you could have an avatar of you as a child); those nice round pixels do make a face, so if that's you, please join!
Hmmm, I should make a page with (self)portraits... trouble is some of them are on film, and I haven't really started my scanner project yet. A tiny start can be found here though.

I still look the same.
iamback on Feb 14, 2008
@Q1475: so why don't you join? Just add "IB ReallyMe" in one of the four boxes in your profile (I see there's still room in your "Reading" box ;))
lovergrl81 on Feb 14, 2008
I added it but it doesnt seem to show that I am in the group
iamback on Feb 14, 2008
@lovergr81: Welcome! I see the problem... seems like the same problem I've had before. Try fiddling with it, adding a space before/after the separating comma, adding a newline or removing it, or putting it first in the list - see if that helps.

iamback on Feb 14, 2008
Hello four eyes! :D Good to have you in IB ReallyMe.
Don't know what's up with Stuff That Don't Count (I see both of us, too) but then at first I had trouble getting it to appear at all, and lovergrl81 has trouble getting through to IB ReallyMe. Either it's a sneaky easter egg, or it's a bug(let).
anti on Feb 14, 2008
@kymom the point of Stuff That Don't Count is to not show up for it. It is a matter of personal pride to be able to figure out how to join.

except the KITT thing this is not a bad representation. (a little more gray perhaps)
