Happy Anniversary Indeed! :P
Well, my tokens were supposed to roll over tonight at midnight, but I guess my VIP status preceded that. I now have 0 stamps and a -2 tokens. And they haven't released the anniversary set yet? And it is the anniversary? Even down to them being at SXSW? Selling PackRat shirts! I guess that tells us all exactly where their priorities are, and have been, and probably will be.

Ouch.
anti on Mar 08, 2008
ooo that's horrid. I must admit to being put off that they left without releasing the set.
gswd on Mar 08, 2008
Oh and it gets even better! I also just noticed that my refill date changed from the 9th to the 17th! So I am at -2 tokens for 9 days!
me2orion on Mar 08, 2008
do they release sets on the weekend? I thought they usually released them during the week? they get everyone's hopes up by showing them to us days in advance only to have us anxiously waiting and being at their beck and call.
This whole packrat thing maybe putting iB on the map, and bringing in money from t-shirt sales, but it's slowly driving away iB-er's and making it harder for us to put up with their beck and call. At this rate, it's going to be more like a "beck and fall." But we are expendable after all.
debbye on Mar 08, 2008
back in my days as a POW/MIA activist, Reagan had said that the issue was his, "highest national priority." i used to say that i'd hate to meet the poor slobs at the bottom!
Now … we have, "Our VIPs are the lifeblood of IconBuffet. VIPs get more tokens, a store discount, and other special perks from time to time …"
maybe it's time to change from VIP to DNR ! *do not resuscitate*
debbye on Mar 08, 2008
btw - do VIPs get tshirts?
gswd on Mar 08, 2008
@me2orion - I believe they have, but is more common that they release on a Friday evening so we "get to play" all weekend. But, since they were at SXSW, maybe someone forgot to program the office robot to "hit the button".
@debbye - no t-shirts, we (except you if I remember correctly) got stickers. I would have taken a hat. I have hats, and other 'prizes', from other internet companies that are no more. And if PackRat cause IB to lose it's lifeblood (VIPs that do not renew) does that make PR a bloodsucking vampire? Thus making it more evil that it already is? Of course PR caan't look at itself in a mirror and reflect on the harm it has done to it's older sibling, 'cause vampires don;t have a reflection. Ha! (I make a funny)
me2orion on Mar 08, 2008
It's just sad that they accept our money for us to play on their site and get us addicted, only to dangle their "icons" on a string, just waiting for us to bite. But it seems like most VIP's are tired of getting bit. And now with the vampires, it seems like we should be worrying about possible rabies. :(
gswd on Mar 08, 2008
I think we all got used to the preview period, and when IB was fun, it gave us a chance to put together our trading games and such. Now, nobody does that.
debbye on Mar 08, 2008
of course we cannot participate in the "game" without stamps or outstanding sets!
gswd on Mar 08, 2008
very true. maybe someday, now that I am no long a Very Iconic Person, I may have an abundance of missing sets.
louiemctool on Mar 08, 2008
well, i see two people who are bored. why don't one of YOU make some sort of game.
and maybe scale back the pity parade. crap happens.
:)
[braces for incoming hail of mean comments...]
gswd on Mar 08, 2008
@louie - I will make no mean comments. You are entitled to your own opinion. And your point is valid. I have not the skill, nor the inclination to produce a game, at least not at this time, preferring instead to work on the betterment of society in the ways that I know how, designing websites.
However, I will make an attempt to turn my frown upside down, just for your Louie.
...........
Didn't work. Still in a bad mood.

i meant more of a simple game, like rajr's Name Game.
thanks for understanding the gist of my post, though.

hehe thank you for giving me credit for a game I didn't start :P

Well any other sort of trading sites that anyone else know of? That's what got me addicted to IB, after all. Personally I'm curious if there's any other sites like this out there (not necessarily with icons, though)
louiemctool on Mar 09, 2008
Iconshock. but its a blatant rip-off that suxors...
:)
anti on Mar 09, 2008
Some of the members have shown interest in sharing icons. I can't make an icon I tried.
gswd on Mar 09, 2008
@Moirethe - as Louie said, the only other one that I know of (and I found out about from others here) is IconShock.
One good thing about them, is that they release sets on a regular schedule. It is not nothing for weeks, then BOOM 3 sets released on the same day.
Their icons are repetitive, really only giving you 5 different icons in each set. There could be copyright or trademark issues if you tried to use some of them publicly. Their community aspect is not as good. But hey, it is something else.
Psy2k on Mar 09, 2008
Sets did not use to stay in preview for so many days, some months before, when more sets were released every week. Beside the IB Anniversary set that will be released after the Anniversary, there is the Amsterdam badge that seems to be online for days now but it is not enabled!
Chefs though, keep on producing great sets even if they dont release as many as they used to!
AlterEgo on Mar 09, 2008
Louie: Iconshock. but its a blatant rip-off
Actually, IconShock is as old as FirewheelDesign. And it's free icon program preceeded IconBuffet 1.0
Just because you found this place first, doesn't mean it existed before any other.
gswd on Mar 09, 2008
Is SXSW over now so that the Chefs can get this anniversary party started?
debbye on Mar 09, 2008
Yaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!
party?
gswd on Mar 10, 2008
I believe the official start will be signaled by the release of the related icon set.

We will have to just practice until that happens.

@Louie and gswd:
Yeah I've tried Iconshock, it's ok. The icons are pretty cool and all, but since it doesn't have something like the stamp/token system here, it doesn't keep me there for very long like it does here. I just tend to check back every month or so and get the new icons.
And party soon, please? :)
debbye on Mar 10, 2008
Ahhhhhhhhh … remembering the IB invasion on IconShock last July …
louiemctool on Mar 10, 2008

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...arrr...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...
gswd on Mar 11, 2008
Well, now if that just doesn't put the icing on the "turbine engine". So, since da Chefs were so busy worrying about their SXSW parties that they forgot to release the Anniversary set on (or before) the anniversary date, VIPs like myself who were early adopters of the VIP program (and paid for my first year upfront), were not included in the Anniversary release as a fresh free delivery.
GOL DARN IT! I put in my time. I had many tokens go unused. And I get shafted again.
debbye on Mar 11, 2008
@gswd - i'd send it to you if i had any stamps!
:(
me2orion on Mar 11, 2008
@gswd i don't know what to say. i'm outraged, but my feelings can't do much. just goes to prove the "chefs" aren't in our corner. they've put us there and boxed us in, leaving us no other options but to strike back and feel this witnessing of their indifference.
me2orion on Mar 11, 2008
ok I have a question. Should you be entitled to the set since they posted it on the site and then didn't release it for a week? That makes the most sense. If they post it, shouldn't that be the release date? Otherwise, you're not releasing it. They are just taunting us by putting it there. It's no wonder why the site has problems after a release. They've kept us waiting for week. People act crazy, pushing and shoving for the same thing, reeking havoc.
Since the "release date" was the 5th and you were a "VIP," then you should be entitled and eligible for the set! You shouldn't be penalized because they didn't really release anything until 6 days later!
meggan on Mar 11, 2008
Just adding my two cents:
I went VIP during the sticker frenzy but apparently missed out on that promo (still not sure what happened there - maybe I signed up later than I thought?), so essentially what I have gotten out of paying for VIP status is the same icons I could have gotten for free (albeit slower).
I did purchase a stock icon set because the VIP discount made it $5, but I would have spent less money just buying the icon set outright and not upgrading to VIP in the first place.
I am way less riled up over this than I feel I should be, but still I don't feel like I received any of the "totally rad surprises" we were promised. I don't think I'm going to renew my VIP membership; the only sets I have left to get are the ones I don't particularly like, and with the rate icons are released, I'm not too concerned about getting the ones I do like.
gswd on Mar 11, 2008
@me2orion - thank you for your support. The fact that it was premiered on the 5th should not necessarily have anything to do with who gets it. The anniversary date for IB2.0 was the 7th. My VIP expired on the 8th 12 months after I had upgraded my account. I was an "early adopter" of the VIP program. So my VIP anniversary was IB 2.0 launch + 1 day. Since they have not allowed for unused tokens to roll over, I do not have a bank of tokens that I "paid for" by becoming a VIP. With the number of tokens I paid for and lost over the last 12 months, I would probably be able to buy 5-10 diamond sets. Regardless of the actual distribution date, they should have looked at the VIP as of the anniversary date as the recipients. Now, when I refill, I'll be able to receive the anniversary set, but with only 5 stamps, I can't send it to anyone, and I'll only have 2 tokens left for the month. Ok, Ok, I know that there are a lot of people that find themselves in that boat, and to them this is probably just a lot of whining and hand wringing.
@meggan - I know a few people who thought they made it in time for the stickers, but still didn't get any. Again, the Chefs with their teasing and hinting, we all joked about it being a way to get people to upgrade, and now it is feeling oh so very true. I can just imagine the conversation around the boardroom: 'Hey guys, we are a little cash strapped. What can we do?' 'Why don't we promise something really neat to the VIPs and see if we can't get more of them to sign up!' 'Yeah, after all they are the life blood of Icon Buffet.' *everyone busts out in a roar of laughter*
elnitido52 on Mar 11, 2008
@gswd - You've been Starfished...THEY were probably waiting for many of the VIPs membership ending to force them (including you) to resign before the releae...Pam also lost her VIP status the same day that the IB Anniversary was released and did not receive the set either...seems no many VIPs arrr... renewing their VIP membership...let's see how long this will last without them...$$$ move mountains...
