and ...
(3) give eugene4jesus the points ;o)

eugene4jesus on Jul 31, 2007

Yes, I agree. I will also get the points. But isn't this the whole goal of IB exchange? Also is there a way to offer the Delivery to people and not get points?

Wile Vip-micro on Jul 31, 2007

you're right ... my purpose was just because when someone wants to send some AHS, this is always exposed as being like if this was UN blue helmets action ... to maintain peace and help people to have something to eat, etc.

eugene4jesus on Jul 31, 2007

Well, I understand. But I am clearly saying that the reward for sending AHS is 250 point. It is by default that I will get those points too, there is no way to not get the points. On the other hand those that do not have AHS missing an opportunity to also make points. And by the way in this post I do not claim to be UN type, I make an offer the way it is.

AvantReese on Jul 31, 2007

You know, it's tempting. I mean, I want AHS, but you spelled diamond incorrectly in your title. In light of that, my personal values are keeping me from requesting this delivery from you.

jmnovak on Jul 31, 2007

@AvantReese: so, request it from me, instead... :-p

jezca on Jul 31, 2007

@ avant: LOL.. then by all means, request it from me :D To eugene's defense though, English is not his native language.

eugene4jesus on Aug 01, 2007

I corrected the mistake. Please keep in mind English is my second language and I am not even in an English speaking country. So if you can forgive me for incorrect spelling please accept AHS. If not please just decline it.

eugene4jesus on Aug 01, 2007

@jezca: Thank you for defending me.

QueenBee83 on Aug 01, 2007

?

tinakris on Aug 01, 2007

I don't get the whole points and tokens thing. I remember iconbuffet when it was just trading in the forums. It was easier to understand then. But please if I could have AHS that would be fantastic :)

eugene4jesus on Aug 03, 2007

yes I remember those times too. It took me a while to get used to this new sight and I am still learning.

JBVisions on Aug 04, 2007

How come this keeps getting back up the top of the page when nobody has posted anything for ages?

Wile Vip-micro on Aug 04, 2007

it's when someone delete its post, then the last modification date of the blog is newer, but not the last post date in it ...

eugene4jesus on Aug 04, 2007

As you noticed I am not a native English speaker and make a lot of spelling errors. I even had a bunch here make fun of me in another post. When I notice the errors or people suggest corrections I make the changes. When I do the post automatically ends up in the top of the forum. So this is how it works.

janmaru on Aug 04, 2007

just let it go!!!!

eugene4jesus on Aug 04, 2007

Let go of what? Correction? I am not sure I want to give others an opportunity make fun of me. I am also open to learning and want to improve in my English skills. So I appreciate them pointing out my misspellings and open to correcting them.

janmaru on Aug 04, 2007

@eugene4jesus: I make mistake myself!!!! so what? You can't stop people laughing at you... maybe you can laugh with them!!! Even if your intentions are good I consider your post coming up without any news quite confusing - and JBVisions is tring to point this out -
so again I say... just let it go!!!!

cheiie on Aug 04, 2007

Because Eugene edits it to stay at the top so that people request AHS from him. Silly kids, trix are for kids :P

janmaru on Aug 04, 2007

you mean he's a tricky guy!!!!
oh oh ;)

eugene4jesus on Aug 04, 2007

@ janmaru - Ok got it

eugene4jesus on Aug 04, 2007

@ cheiie - is it against the rules?

cheiie on Aug 04, 2007

No, but you should be honest about why you're doing it, at least.

eugene4jesus on Aug 04, 2007

@ cheiie - I am honest. I am not denying that after I edit my post it ends up on the top. But isn't it "rude" to accuse me of dishonesty. I do not see myself lying anywhere here.

cheiie on Aug 04, 2007

Not when you rarely edit the original text; no one's quite as stupid as you seem to believe. End of story.

cheiie on Aug 04, 2007

I pressed enter too fast - and I also agree with janmaru and JBV that it's confusing when posts pop up without any 'new info.'

eugene4jesus on Aug 04, 2007

@cheiie - since I started participating in the forums it seems you are the only person who is "hostile" to me. Do you have some kind of a problem? And it also looks like you always want to have the last word.

As to my "editing" you might notice that not only the text is edited, but I am adding HTML things to it. I am learning here to program at the IB a little. Some nice people are trying to help me with this.

So I still think your accusations are inappropriate.

cheiie on Aug 04, 2007

I call a spade a spade, if that's what you're saying, yes. It is frustrating/confusing/annoying, as others have pointed out, to see a post to which there are no (new) replies continually popping up.
Why? Because then you've got people looking for the replies and/or trying to read what isn't there.
Incidentally, programming != using HTML, and frankly, yes I've seen the post pop up several times, have read (the original entry) each time, and no, you haven't been changing it all that often.
It's not hostility, it's truth. Truth is never inappropriate.

eugene4jesus on Aug 04, 2007

Interesting view of truth.

cheiie on Aug 04, 2007

Damnit with the enter button! Sorry.. continued.

And the truth is that you're editing the post in order to facilitate more people seeing it so that you might have (more) opportunities to send out AHS, the diamond delivery. And whilst you were not "lying" in your reply to Janmaru, you were omitting facts, which could be seen a lying by omission, which is where my comment on being honest about it stems from.
If you think that's hostile, then you need to consider calling the whambulance

janmaru on Aug 04, 2007

ua... it's better than watching a mud fight!!!!

It might be the time to ring the bell!!!!
;)

eugene4jesus on Aug 04, 2007

So you consider seeing my post annoying. H-m-m. What about "sniping". Is it not annoying? I think it is. Based on the continual "hostility" (look at your last comment) there seems to be some hard feeling about me getting some requests and you not getting some. That's what it look like. An to be honest I got very few requests from the post. I did get a lot, though, from personal offering it to people, not forum. But my trying to program at the forum post helped me get better at offers. So I am annoying to you, you are hostile to me. I can live with this.

eugene4jesus on Aug 04, 2007

@janmaru - ding-ding-ding (: I think you are right.

cheiie on Aug 04, 2007

Sniping probably is annoying. I rarely send sets out anymore, you see. Why is this? Because I have a lack of stamps. What does this mean to you? That even if I got the requests, I couldn't fulfill them. So your assessment of my supposed jealousy is most certainly incorrect. Besides, I think everyone knows that jealousy is Tamashii's bag ;D

You've mistaken what I've said. YOU are not annoying - viewing the same post over and over, popping up with little (in your view) to no (in my view) editing, is confusing - and not just to me.

eugene4jesus on Aug 04, 2007

Well, the best way to get stamps at a certain point,I found, is getting my friends referred to IB. I have three who signed thus far, but it helps get extra stamps.

cheiie on Aug 04, 2007

I'm not that interested in the stamps, just pointing out that I can't be jealous of your getting requests when I've got no stamps. I could be jealous of your stamp stash, but I don't send sets as much as I used to anymore. Generally speaking, I only handle the ones that come to me personally.

What I was trying, clumsily, to say is that you r reply to Janmaru seemed as if you were stating, simply, that you were just trying to correct your English, but really it's to keep trying to get requests for deliveries from you (which is fine, because then you're putting in the work - however seeing the same thing pop up with no replies IS confusing, due to the way IB works)

janmaru on Aug 04, 2007

@cheiie: if I can spend few words 4 eugene I'll tell ya that he's a good man!!! He's not ready yet 4 your ambulance!!!!!

...and bytheway [@eugene4jesus] even if you correct the title of your blog the url won't change!!!!
http://www.iconbuffet.com/people/eugene4jesus/blogs/a-dimond-delivery--a-great-opportunity

so take easy!!!
vale

eugene4jesus on Aug 04, 2007

OK. I understood what you were trying to say the first time. In my reply to Janmaru I gave the main reason. I could make list of all of them, you are right. But due to my post yesterday in which I misspelled "sight" instead of saying "site" some people thought it was funny. I also thought it was funny, but only one was kind enough to explain the mistake to me. So my goal in editing now is to post correct, good looking and well programed posts when appropriate. In our country when someone learns our langauge we do not make fun of this person, but appreciate the effort and help correct when needed. So I guess you could say I am sensitive about my English skills (spelling), though I speak the language better then some native speakers.

cheiie on Aug 04, 2007

I don't think anyone's a 'bad man' actually, don't worry about that. The whambulance is only re: whining, and don't worry - it's a pirate thing overall - NO WHINING - just ask the monkey.

janmaru on Aug 04, 2007

joe piscopo is my neighbor...

janmaru on Aug 04, 2007

@eugene4jesus: I also do speak italian better than my self!!!!

cheiie on Aug 04, 2007

I don't think anyone was making fun of you in a way that should be offensive, though! They were joking around with you, yes.

Perhaps not everyone here notices that you aren't a native-english spaker because your english is actually that good, that they assume your mistakes are more like typos or funny oversights. If you think of it in these terms, it's actually complimentary.

cheiie on Aug 04, 2007

See? I just did it. Speaker* Not spaker.

eugene4jesus on Aug 04, 2007

@ janmaru - thank you for the note about the original url of the post. I think I already messed-up another one. (:

eugene4jesus on Aug 04, 2007

@ cheiie - Thank you for clarifying.

JBVisions on Aug 04, 2007

Eugene, no it's not against the rules but try looking at it this way. There are a number of other people on here who also post asking to send out AHS. You keep changing yours thus keeping it at the top. What is to stop all the others doing the same thing?

We would end up with a blog full of the same posts over and over again. Once one person does it, new people come on and think that's what you should do and it'll just get worse and worse, at which point, everyone else just doesn't bother coming in to read anything so all blog trading stops.

eugene4jesus on Aug 04, 2007

@ JBVisions - Got it! Thanks!

janmaru on Aug 04, 2007

@JBVisions: I don't trust people' s galateo...

at this point I think we should suggest to our Chefs to simply change a bit the way this web site is organized:
1) don't allow updates in the title's blog
2) draw a checkbox to "close" the blog
3) only the owner can close the post: it should not be so hard to disable all the others to prevent them to endlessly posting after...

eugene4jesus on Aug 04, 2007

Good suggestions!
@ janmaru What do you mean by "galateo"?

JBVisions on Aug 04, 2007

As to sniping there are good reasons for it. Some people post asking to send out and then stay around to fulfill those requests but a lot don't. There was one recently who posted and got several replies but they only log in once a week. They didn't mention this anywhere.

Now anyone replying would have either had to sit and wait for 7 days to get the set they wanted or get it from someone else. The snipers make sure the sets arrive quickly.

When I get a token refresh I nearly always have the whole lot pre-allocated with agreed trades. I post in people's boxes several days before asking them to send the set over ready for me to pick up.

Last time I sent out 9 requests, 4 days before I needed them. Two arrived. The other 7 I waited and waited and then took them from somebody else. The you get the complaints that they can't trade and can't get points. Sorry but trading requires you to be around more than once a week.

It's easy to assume that everybody works the buffet in the same way that you do but they don't. Some are laid back about it and happy to wait days for sets, others of us are completely addicted and expect sets to arrive instantly, and there's everything else in between.

JBVisions on Aug 04, 2007

galateo. Isn't that an ice cream with a cherry on top? ;)

eugene4jesus on Aug 04, 2007

Yes, I agree. I learned my lesson about sniping. I understand sniping the blog forum. But personal boxes I still think it is not right. For example I got addicted a bit and always try to keep an eye on IB. I even check my e-mail on my cell to see if I got communication. If I do then I go to my computer either at home or at office. But imagine this. You put hard work into it. Then there is some one who snipes your box even though you were away for an hour or so. That becomes annoying. If someone wants a set quick, then they just ask for it in a Blog Forum. And then everyone is welcomed to snipe those requests. But I have to accept the real life (and smell the coffee) and live with the whisper function. Thus looking for other ways to get a fix for my addiction to IB. (: This forces one to be creative, doesn't it?

janmaru on Aug 04, 2007

ua... the power of statistics!!!
I know that this's the ice cream social and it's always hard 4 you guys to find the right ballance between freedom and roles so I didn't suggest any new db flags or any grid different order by select, but I noted that to build an application on user's "right behaviour" is like to make a sandcastel on the shore...
vale

JBVisions on Aug 04, 2007

Personal box sniping is frowned upon an I will track down the perpetrator and stomp them if they do it in mine, as a couple of people on here will testify.

To be fair it's sometimes an honest mistake. They are in the trading mind set, see a request, panic, fill it and then think ooops. Of course you can't delete the send.

If somebody snipes your box, look in the trades of the person you were trying to send to and you'll be able to see who did it.

Warning though. Many people will ask you for something, then go and ask others as well because you didn't send it fast enough.

I had one this week who posted the same request to everyone on their friends list.

Candee on Aug 04, 2007

Hi, I`m new at IconBuffet and just wanted to point out that I though eugene4jesus was one of the chefs here. Why? because every time I visited the forums the only thing I could see was that blue face with shades offering AHS. Please, give us a break. Even though I would like to get AHS, I won`t get it from you.

cheiie on Aug 04, 2007

I think there needs to be a distinction, as well.
There's blog-sniping; personal box sniping; and all of our personal favorites - the willy nillies :D

Seriously though - eugene, if I'm not mistaken, you were originally (a few days back) upset with the blog sniping, yes? That's going to happen regardless. However, box-sniping shouldn't be done, and it's true - JBV will crush them.
Although, you will, from time to time see people posting around "snipe my blog" when they are out of stamps.

cheiie on Aug 04, 2007

Candee, you made me guffaw. I like early morning laughs thanks :)

eugene4jesus on Aug 04, 2007

Thanks I see. About a week ago I was blasted by one active member of the forum for calling some one who sniped my box to be ashamed since I thought it was wrong. I was told that it is a public fodder in case it is not whispered but posted as a comment. I was told it was allowed by the IB chefs. So I am a little confused. I actually found the one who did it and the person was very nice in explanation and apologized. But from my forum communication I was told this is something others will do. I see you understand how it feels when someone does it and then says he/she is right.

Thus the question. How do I "stomp" the wrongful doer if they did it with evil intention?

eugene4jesus on Aug 04, 2007

By the way from that week I learned a new English word - fodder. Never heard it before. Had to look it up in my dictionary, granted I got one on my PC, PDA and smartphone.

cheiie on Aug 04, 2007

Eugene, that was regarding me and BlackBart. He didn't snipe your box, he sniped your blog! THEREIN lies the communication breakdown.

elnitido52 on Aug 04, 2007

Galateo, Of manners and behaviours. Code of conduct.

elnitido52 on Aug 04, 2007

@Candee - You made my day, thanks.

JBVisions on Aug 04, 2007

Open blogs are fair game. Private boxes aren't. Ideally people would whisper but they don't always do so and as I said, you can't always guarantee that they only asked you.

The Chefs aren't going to police the forums. There are many thousands of members on here and they'd be innundated. Some allow you to snipe their boxes and they post that in their profile. As Cheiie says, some people who never have any stamps also ask you to snipe their boxes. Other than that it's down to the individual and Pirate code says private boxes are off limits.

How you stomp them is up to you. I have a quiet word with them. If they are persistent then I'll blacklist them from all future trades. There is quite a grapevine on here and it soon gets about as to who isn't to be trusted and others will then stop trading with them as well.

eugene4jesus on Aug 04, 2007

@cheiie ahh, I see. I guess I got an impression that our conversation applied to the boxes too. Sorry.

eugene4jesus on Aug 04, 2007

@JBVisions - Thank you for explaining this.

janmaru on Aug 04, 2007

ua... all this conversation leads to a word: folder!!!

I'm going to folder away!!!!

cheiie on Aug 04, 2007

No no - not folder - fodder. Though similar in spelling, quite different words :D

JBVisions on Aug 04, 2007

Ahhhh the penny drops. :) My brain was in the middle of one of those HUH????? moments.
