SPAM

Since it's been appearing in the forum over the last few days, I thought I'd share a little SPAM of my own:

When I was a kid my mother would fry slices of it in a skillet. My, what I wouldn't eat back then!

Yurgh! School Dinners. :o(

debbye on Jul 30, 2007

i was given a recipe several years ago. i was told that it would taste just like real ham. they lied.

FallenAngel on Jul 30, 2007

Uk! I've always hated spam. My granny used to make spam sandwiches. Vile things they were!

ZsaZsa on Jul 30, 2007

My Mom only did that once or twice. The darn things kept falling on the floor!

pam Vip-micro on Jul 30, 2007

Spam-o-Rama, baby ... love it ... but only a couple times a year :)

iconmaster on Jul 30, 2007

There's a sushi restaurant near the office where you can get spam sushi! (Technically spam maki rolls.) Haven't tried it yet. ;)

rossanyl on Jul 30, 2007

Did anybody ever saw a herd of spam ?

BlackBart on Jul 30, 2007

The only positive thing to come out of the production of SPAM is the Monty Python song about it IMHO!

ZsaZsa on Jul 30, 2007

I never herd of spam - I seen it once or twice.

ChickAzul on Jul 30, 2007

there's also this other one by Save Ferris:

No Weird Al fans here?

davethegr8 on Jul 30, 2007

Spam spam spam spam spam...

BlackBart on Jul 30, 2007

The SPAM sketch
Rather British Humour!!

etherbrian on Jul 30, 2007

spam + SPAM

stefanie on Jul 30, 2007

I love SPAM! I've grown up eating it. And it's common here in Hawaii. They even have a breakfast special at McDonalds with SPAM: SPAM, rice, and eggs (a typical breakfast for me while growing up). A lot of other restaurants you go to here will also have some kind of meal with SPAM in it.

BTW, the spam sushi is called SPAM Musubi. I use to help my old roommate make them for potlucks.

debbye on Jul 30, 2007

i love all the links dedicated to SPAM!

there is another product that i have seen only in the south *not wanting to step on the toes of my good neighbors* i am curious about a "food" with a name like this: Potted Meat ¿¿

is it used like SPAM or does it just sit in the cupboard for company?

anti on Jul 30, 2007

@debbye, I have never tried SPAM so I cannot compare. However, back before it filtered down to me that some foods might not be as healthy as others, I did enjoy an occasional potted meat sandwich. You just spread it on a piece of bread!

JBVisions on Jul 30, 2007

Yes we have potted meat. I like potted crab meat. Spam...... Yuk Yuk Yuk Yukky spit spit.

davethegr8 on Jul 30, 2007

Potted meat food product

Not even real food.

mhayes on Jul 30, 2007

Spam - lived on it in college.

iconmaster on Jul 30, 2007

Spammobile -- yes, it really exists.

etherbrian on Jul 30, 2007

Potted meat is animal flesh that can be spread with a knife onto a slice of bread. UNNATURAL!

JBVisions on Jul 30, 2007

And spam IS natural? :o∫

etherbrian on Jul 30, 2007

Oh! SPAM must be quite a popular food, otherwise there would not exist a copycat product like TREET!

debbye on Jul 30, 2007

a place *who shall remain nameless* i used to live had "Veye-eeenas"

i think it was the regional food & i had no clue what it was. pronounced, not like Vienna as in Austria, but "Veye-eeenas" !

JBVisions on Jul 30, 2007

not exist a copycat product like TREET!

Having seen that your potted meat is different to ours. We have a sort of meat or fish paste.

Treet is dog food

Vegemite - ah yes well. I think you have to come from down under to like that stuff. Marmite is bad but vegemite! Lets just say it's an acquired taste.

anti on Jul 30, 2007

Oh yeah I loves me some Vienna Sausages.

Jen on Jul 30, 2007

Anyone know or can find the ingredients in deviled ham? a very similar canned meat spread product. I searched google for about 15 minutes and didn't find a thing - not even on the Underwood company website.

zelda013 on Jul 30, 2007

sheesh, now my room is filled with singing vikings. how am supposed to get rid of them ? they won't shut up, and i have to go to bed soon.

grantneufeld Vip-micro on Jul 30, 2007

Let me just add that, as a long-time vegetarian, I’m opposed to the meat-based and meat-like topics presented here.

;-)

debbye on Jul 30, 2007

did you add your mask specifically for this thread?

brilliant … point taken! :-)

grantneufeld Vip-micro on Jul 30, 2007

Heh, no. But it does help :-)

iqon on Jul 30, 2007

ARRRRR, school lunches. Me remembers "cold food day" when thar be a long rectangle of play-doh like cheese and a matching rectangle of spam substitute. Fake spam is MUCH worse than the real stuff. Me monkey was convinced it was made from monkey brains.

JBVisions on Jul 31, 2007

Fittingly, there was an item on BBC Breakfast today about students and unhealthy breakfasts. These included things such as Pot Noodles, Pop Tarts and toast covered in Margarine but the one that made me heave was Spam and Mustard Milk Shake!

ZsaZsa on Aug 01, 2007

Truly sorry to bump this thread, but could not believe my eyes when I saw this lovely gift set

JBVisions on Aug 01, 2007

ROFL! What on earth is in the bottle? It sure doesn't look like Spam and Mustard Milkshake but then again I've never seen one.

ZsaZsa on Aug 01, 2007

I know! Can't use Google translator on bitmap. Could it be sake or white wine or, urp!, SPAM juice?

Novak Vip-micro on Aug 01, 2007

I liked fried spam when I was a kid. I'd probably still like it, but I'm not about to try...best stick with the fond memory, I say.

iqon on Aug 01, 2007

The bottle has a picture of grapes so it must contain citrus extract¹.

ARRRRRR, spam cooked in citrus extract keeps ye scurvy free.

¹ - made from grapefruit.

debbye on Aug 01, 2007

i'm guessing - grapeseed oil??

& to think for years i could have been giving this lovely gift to all my friends & family! it would have solved all the questions that come up with seasonal gift giving - perfect for everyone! [ except the vegans & i doubt that it is Kosher! ]

louiemctool on Aug 01, 2007

yar, if you look closely under the ideograms, you can see the words "grapeseed oil" in the fancy script...

ehooton on Aug 01, 2007

ugh! That's all I have to say!

cdncx on Aug 01, 2007

I have to disagree with JBV over Marmite ... spam either eaten or received is awful

webmonkey on Aug 02, 2007

I like it - my mom was married to a Hawaiin at one point and they loved it and could prepare it a dozen ways - just about anything tastes good if you are hungry enough. Oh, did I mention SPAM is low in carbs??? :))
