IB March Statistics - A Diamond Anniversary - A Broken Promise
March 8th marked the end of a whole year of Icon Buffet v. 2.0. The Chefs celebrated with us by releasing a new Diamond Set IB Anniversary. This Set was distributed Free to Members who were VIP's on March 11th. This was the third Diamond release and with it came a new Tri-Diamond Badge and 1,000 Bonus Points if you now have all three Diamond Sets. Also, the Amsterdam Badge was entered into the System and 100 Bonus Points became attainable if you have all 10 Sets in the Amsterdam Family.
Despite this memorable event, as noted below, March proved to be the worst month on record in terms of the number of Sets released, even beating the partial month of March last year. iconmaster has stated several times "all we ever promised you is that you would get one Free Set each month", and as stated on the Help page "You’ll get one free delivery a month just for being a member at IconBuffet". These promises were broken as Groups 2 & 3 (the Groups which needed the Free Deliveries the most - see chart below) got no Free deliveries during the month and Groups 1 & 4 got 1 Free Delivery each. For Members not having all the Sets you got a chance to catch up a little bit, and for Members having all the Sets you wasted some valuable Tokens.
As noted herein, March was a down month when compared to February. Group 1 received 1 Bronze Free Set during the Month, Group 4 received 1 Gold Free Set during the Month, and Groups 2 & 3 didn't receive any Free Sets during the Month. Here's the results for March:
Total Sets released in March was 3, a 63% decrease from the 8 Sets released in February. The March releases consisted of 1 Diamond, 1 Gold, and 1 Bronze Sets. Of the 3 Sets released, etherbrian was the Designer of 1 Set (1B) containing 8 Icons, iconmaster was the Designer of 1 Sets (1G) containing 8 Icons, and etherbrian and iconmaster jointly released 1 Set containing 16 Icons (1D).
The Token value of all Sets released in March was 16, a 20% decrease over the 20 Token Value in February.
The Average Token Cost per Set was 5.33, a 113% increase from the 2.50 average in January. The increase was due primarily to the inclusion of the Diamond Set in the month.
The Average Sets released per week was .75, a 63% decrease from the 2.00 sets per week released in February.
This Chart tracks the above Statistics since the New Icon Buffet went live in March 2007.
This Latest Chart tracks by Group the Total amount of Set Value each group has received Free since IB 2.0 started on 3/9/07.
At the end of March there were 179 Free Delivery Sets outstanding, containing 2,820 Icons. These included 3 Diamond (1.68%), 45 Gold (25.14%), 43 Silver (24.02%), and 88 Bronze (49.16%) Sets. The total Token Value of all Sets outstanding was 472 at the end of March with an average Token Value/Set of 2.64.
There is now 1 Member with over 120,000 Points, 2 Members with over 80,000 Points, 1 Members with over 70,000 Points, 1 Member over 40,000 Points, 4 Members over 30,000 Points, and 23 additional Members over 20,000 Points. If you want to get into the top 50 of all Members you will need over 16,930 Points, up 1,810 Points since last month. Up to date User Standings can be seen Here courtesy of Aaroncampbell.

Thanks again Dyar...as always...a great statistics job...sadly they don't listen anymore but we arrr... going to show them that we care about IB... even though we arrr... not longer their preferred child...arrr...
elnitido52 on Apr 01, 2008
Btw, 2 broken promises since the VIPs couldn't buy sets worth (at least) of 10 Tokens...
Simon on Apr 01, 2008
Actually, it depends on how you interpret "one Free Set each month". I received Alexandria Casino (I'm in group 2) on March 1st, so I *did* receive a free set in March. They've got a whole month left for April.
Other than that of course I also wish to see more sets, but well.. just wanted to point out that they didn't really break their promise in my opinion.
dyar on Apr 01, 2008
Alexandria Casino was released on February 29th. You might not have picked it up till the 1st, but it was released, along with 2 other Sets, on February 29th.
elnitido52 on Apr 01, 2008
True!
emanaton on Apr 01, 2008
@dyar: but seriously - Feb 29 hardly even counts as a real day...
Simon on Apr 01, 2008
Dyar: No, I really got it on March 1st, must be the time zone difference then. So they broke promise to half the world, or something, guess I'm living in the right place over here (GMT+1).. :P

All I have to say is "Ouch"

When I joined here in Jan 08, I thought "Cool! Free icons and the chance to make new friends in what looked to be a great strong online community." However, I feel in just the short time I have been here that the community spirit is really lagging. I don't know if that's from the lack of sets to trade or from something else. I can say that if we as community don't stop focusing on what didn't happen and focus on all the positives of this place. We may find it gone. I would not like to see that happen. The negativity is getting hard to take and not join the bandwagon. I would suggest that if you really are not happy with the Chefs then you email them rather than bringing your negativity to the blogs. The Chefs are allowed to projects beyond this place, but maybe the emails will remind them how much we miss them here on IB.

I still have months of free icons, so only "older" VIP can really complain... Maybe it's only a phase for the icon chefs.
metaljey on Apr 03, 2008
That may be, but it's getting to me. I love this place. The community is great. The games are fun to play. Maybe I should go 'dig' some of the games up so that they are on the front page....
aaroncampbell on Apr 03, 2008
Well, it's been a year since I went VIP, and I paid for a year, so I'm officially a non-VIP now. If they fix some of the issues, I'd be happy to purchase another year. As of now, what's the point?

The analysis is a little misleading.
"One free set a month" = one new set released a month, not necessarily one new set per group a month.
With ten tokens a month, everyone can receive at least one free set a month, if only one set is released and that set is a diamond. Normally gold and below are released, so you can receive between two and ten a month.
So, sure, a disappointing month, but I wouldn't say broken promise.

Hey I am in Group three!! I want my icon!! *Shakes fist*
louiemctool on Apr 04, 2008
i believe they interpret "one free set a month" as not costing any tokens (in other words, a Chef or Sponsored delivery). in that case, they have a point.
i happen to agree with that assumption, but the wording is somewhat ambiguous...
:p

One other great work. Thanks Dyar.
Btw, can I change group? 'Cause I'm in Group 2! :(

aaroncampbell - ...If they fix some of the issues...As of now, what's the point?
I agree, what's the point? I downgraded to regular member status after loosing 91 tokens from November-March. $6 a month may not sound like a lot of $, but when you are on a tight budget, every $1 makes a difference. My hubby became disabled in October and we still have not received his first disability check. Hopefully we will get it in the next 3-5 weeks. :]

Here's something to keep us all occupied.
Last night I waved bye-bye to 37 unused tokens. In February I waved bye-bye to 28 unused tokens.
As of this morning I have 43 shiny new tokens.
Who wants to set up a book betting on how many I have left at the end of this month?
dyar on Apr 04, 2008
I would be willing to bet that you will be joining IB Ex-VIP when your Renewal comes due. That would be 23 Tokens each month w/o VIP. I think the days of us seeing 30 Token Value/mo of new releases are over. Although, maybe they can get the new designer at PackRat to design us a Set here.
samkarn on Apr 04, 2008
Sounds like somebody is looking a gift horse in the mouth. Of course... that's easy for me to say since I'm a non-paying member. But then, I've always refused to pay for something that is given to you for free.
Really though, icon sets are nice and all, and collecting is kinda fun... but it's really not a necessity to pay for an account.
That being said, if IB is going to actually take your money... a certain level of living-up-to-expectations is expected, and it seems RatPack is getting all the attention. My suggestion would be for IB to stop charging for VIP accounts, and just give VIP status to long-term, high-points, or highly active members.

@samkarn - i would gladly be more active, but the system doesn't work for those who have all sets & no way to recruit new members. without that abilty, you have no stamps & cannot play anymore. That is a big part of the reason that the veteran VIP are upset. there are options that could be implemented to keep the "old fogies" busy, but the chefs have ignore us and IB.

Having just returned from the creative gathering of PhotoShop World East here in sunny Florida this year, imagine my surprise when I found a little icony goodness on my doorstep - and it was my fresh free delivery. Woo Hoo! And then to find that there were 2 sets that I was missing now, but still with only 1 token. Please - Oh Please(!) - let there be a bronze set released (that is not in my group) before the 17th when I will lose my 1 remaining token.
thedudedean on Apr 04, 2008
Yeah they need to make the economy move more. Maybe if they let us buy stamps for tokens instead of wasting them, let us accumulate tokens or more new stuff.
JBVisions on Apr 04, 2008
YAY! I just spent 3 tokens.

@JB - I did too...so I have 39 left...You have 40...yay!
