TP Overhand
How do YOU install your toilet paper?
It is time for you to take a stand (seat?) and vote on this most contentious (t)issue by joining "TP Overhand" or "TP Underhand". Let the points decide the issue!
For background (that's not supposed to be a pun) take a look at WikiPedia or from an ABC report down under (really, that's not supposed to be a pun either.)
Swipe those points! (ok, THAT was a pun)
A thoroughly biased view of the controversy can be found here, thanks to Betty :-}
And a more correct view can be found here in this passionate video from The Angry Aussie :-) (Some foul language)
We now have a "splinter" group at for the total non-conformist: TP Vertical

Lol! I had to join! I'm in overhand, and it's unanimous so far.

Haha - I'm an overhand. This is hilarious :)
daveamun on May 16, 2007
Early results show Overhand leading with 23,490 points while Underhand is currently pointsless.
Josh - you SAY your an overhand ...
Iconmaster - you'll have to pick just one, this time ;-)

Under!
hjsg on May 16, 2007
Our cats would unwind the roll, so we had to hang it underhand until the beasts forgot this game.
stefanie on May 16, 2007
Overhand! In college, I hated it when "underhanded" my roommate would switch it up.
tamashii on May 16, 2007

/me waves to FunkyMunky. Yay!
bjendrick on May 16, 2007
I'm almost OCD about it. At home, I'll fix it if it was put on underhand. *shrug*
anti on May 16, 2007
ok, ok, TP Overhand
dishg on May 16, 2007
hilarious, overhand here =)
daveamun on May 16, 2007
Strange - FunkyMunky joined TP Underhand but doesn't turn up on the list of advocates? Don't worry, justG, you'll get company soon!
JBVisions on May 16, 2007
Ahhhhh now this has been a bone of contention in our house and it would have lead to divorce if we'd been married. I prefer underhand, he prefers overhand so I got a double holder and we have one of each. :-)
anti on May 16, 2007
Strange indeed - you can click the link in FunkyMunky's profile, but then there is justG, all alone. Must be a plot.
Hoshichan on May 16, 2007
@daveamun, Extrarice is overhand as well. And ditto to bjendrick, I fix it if it's wrong, at home. ;)
Betty on May 16, 2007
TP UNDERHAND!
dishg on May 16, 2007
Overhand - ease of use
Underhand - aesthetically pleasing

How about TP Folded Triangle?
JBVisions on May 16, 2007
Tried that once. Must have lasted ooooooh all of a day before I got fed up doing it.
SuperLlamel on May 16, 2007
I'm an overhand, myself.

Overhand. I get confused iF it's the other way. Doesn't feel right!! :)
lparziale on May 16, 2007
Overhand.
Thank you for asking, as this was really bothering me not to share this very personal piece of information for millions to read!
daveamun on May 16, 2007
@lparziale: yer welcome ;-}
webmonkey on May 16, 2007
My toilet roll isn't hung horizontally. It's on a vertical stand. And I'm on the Northern Hemisphere, so I would have to say CCW.
fdev on May 16, 2007
Go overhand!
bcarneiro on May 16, 2007
hahahahhahaha!
cynicalpink on May 16, 2007
In The Simpsons episode "Home Sweet Home- Diddily- Dum- Doodily" the Springfield child welfare people reported "toilet paper hung in improper overhand fashion" as a violation.
ITA. :-)
debbye on May 17, 2007
"Poo Tickets" & what country is that? really great!
i became an "overhand" to coordinate with the paper towels. they had to be overhand or else you wouldn't see the lovely art that never coordinates with your kitchen!
ehooton on May 17, 2007
overhand!
iqon on May 17, 2007
Huh? over/under impies you actually replace the roll when empty. Just set it down on the back of the loo.
iconmaster on May 17, 2007
It's all about working with gravity rather than against it. With the overhand approach, you pull the roll towards the ground. With underhand, you have to roll it up, against gravity. Less ergonomic and more work.
Jen on May 17, 2007
Overhander here. :) Otherwise, I can't find the end in the dark!
aaroncampbell on May 17, 2007
That or just pull it down, but off the back of the roll (closer to the wall)...
ap on May 17, 2007
shit, i always thought that overhands were strange, dammit!
i can't understand overhands, i'm underhander, and always leave the toilet paper underhanded'
hah!
Betty on May 17, 2007
@ap-you must join us--put TP underhand in your profile!
debbye on May 17, 2007
my avatar: nuff said!
iconmaster on May 17, 2007
@aaron - You'd think so, but inevitably the end of the roll will end up hidden between the roll and the wall, requiring the "uproll" gravity-fighting maneuver.
Underhanded is just asking for a fight with Mother Nature... when nature calls.
daveamun on May 17, 2007
@debbye: excellent :o}
Betty on May 18, 2007
Overhand + cats or toddlers=TP all over the floor.
aaroncampbell on May 18, 2007
I'm not a cat person, so my solution to that one is "give it away" or "put it down" ...however, I have a toddler, and we had that problem for a short while. They get over it quickly.
splotch on May 18, 2007
Used to be overhand, now I have a toddler and have defected to the underhand. All it takes is one roll of toilet paper all over your house and you start thinking of things in a whole new light.
ehooton on May 18, 2007
Does that actually work? I think my toddlers would figure it out anyway. My youngest gets great satisfation out of taking things apart and then bringing them to me to fix. He is just TOO curious. He found the TP again just this past Monday...

Just to mention - some swearing in the video :-(
pitcher17 on May 23, 2007
When I was younger and naive I had no preference. Then one day, after I had met my wonderful girlfriend, the truth of the overhand was revealed to me.
debbye on May 23, 2007
@daveamun the video is awesome =)
is that You? thank you for sharing your private moments with all of us peoples in the world.

@debbye: No, the ranting and raving was not my creation. He's the Angry Aussie, I'm the Krazy Kanuck ;-}
rmmoore89 on May 26, 2007
Yes, only the chosen ones install overhand. Underhanders are just that...underhanded! Never trust an underhander!!!
cdncx on May 27, 2007
I've started a splinter group ...
debbye on May 27, 2007
if you're getting splinters - the TP wasn't made well! =)
cdncx on May 27, 2007
That'll be the seat, not the TP :P
hornbeck on May 27, 2007
overhand all the way!
startingover04 on May 27, 2007
Overhand has to be correct
rotassator on May 28, 2007
Erm. I don't really have a strong preference here! Depends on how much distance there is between the seat and wall I guess. :) My wife is definitely overhand though, so I'll put my lot in there.
louiemctool on May 28, 2007
so which way would you consider public toilets to be? since most of those dispense the TP sideways (if they're actually filled.. )
wulfbane on May 31, 2007
HAHA OVERHAND here.
but just a thought, it wouldn't be bad to be an overhand underhand hehe whatever...

debbye on Jun 08, 2007
i was recently visiting "friends" out of state. they both claimed overhand, but didn't even notice when i switched the roll under!!!

debbye on Mar 11, 2008
@sloan - close the seat - no more poofy TP …
closed seat is also good Feng Shui, prevents good chi from going down the drain!
