Blog Forum Rules?
Hi guys, can we have a blog topic that is always on top that states certain rules on our IB blog forum.
This has been a constant annoyance to me about trolling, sniping, lurking on a user's thread about sending delivery to members who request for icons. If you don't want anyone sniping or any other terms you used, just state it to your posted blog.
The blog is a public place, seriously, even before the rewards for tokens, badges for points ever came. People doesn't mind about people fulfilling request on other's blog. At first it's about sharing, being generous, and thinking that the other person who requested the set needed the icon badly and the blog poster might not be available to sent it fast. It wasn't about points back then and now, I know that it is different. Points does matter.
If someone posted that they wanted to earn a certain points to earn a badge, let them handle all the request. Be respectful enough not to fulfill request from members who wanted him/her to get the points.
If you want a particular member to send the set to you, just leave them a message to their respective box.
I know I've been guilty on fulfilling request from other's blog but I don't think it was a bad thing. I usually read every post if the original poster was offended by someone who "beats" them from delivering the set. I was really disappointed back then and stopped coming here for awhile. This is about sharing people!
Any other blog forum rules you wanted to add? Or is this really unnecessary?

I thought the general consensus was that blog requests are up for grabs--anyone can respond with a delivery. I don't think this rule is necessary.
BlackBart on Apr 26, 2007
If you post to a blog you have to expect this. If you want to avoid snipers, ask a friend or two. People usually have stamps if you have tokens!
Hoshichan on Apr 26, 2007
Every single blog I've posted has me filling about 25% or less of the requests, with others beating me to the punch. Eventually I gave up and started checking other threads, as this seems to be how most people do it on the forums. I guess next time I'll ask people to comment in my box, if I want the points. [shrug]
Jen on Apr 26, 2007
It's up to the person who receives the set, whether or not they accept it from a particular user. Why not make an agreement with someone to only accept your particular set?
Birgit and I do that if one of us has what the other needs. xD
BlackBart on Apr 26, 2007
True! If you want to make a point, you could politely refuse with a message saying. Dear XXX, am returning your send as I wish to receive it from YYYY. Sorry

thanks betty for your reply. I just found out that some people are offended. The whole "points does matter" thing going about is disrupting this general consensus so we need to discuss about it again. Anyone else?

Is this really necessary?
There are always those who like to complain and bully.
Ignore them.
they go away.
If you have nothing better to do than snipe and grind an ax go somewhere else. I am here to make friends and share and learn.
Simple, peace out. :)
BlackBart on Apr 26, 2007
Fine, but there are also those who, by sniping hard, earn lots of points which (now) can earn you extra tokens to get even more sets!

I made one comment about sniping, but I wouldn't say I'm offended. I think we all use this system according to our own style and motivation. Rules are not necessary.

I too was trying NOT to "snipe" and went out and made friends. I then would exchange messages ON OUR PROFILES, thinking this would be better. Unfortunately, others would follow the threads even in my profile and fill orders from people who actually ASKED ME ON MY PROFILE to send them stuff. Oh well, I have made some friends and like Jen, have agreed with them to trade amongst us to avoid this method when possible. I too also will still fill an order if it looks as thought the original poster is not onlien anymore.
aaroncampbell on Apr 26, 2007
I admit, when you make a post because you are trying to achieve an objective (a certain badge for instance), it it REALLY annoying when people snipe. I mean, I would have to sit there and refresh every 15 seconds to fill all the requests before the people sniping. If it's ok to do, so be it. I can snipe too...it just seems rude.
As far as the box thing goes, I've found that you're not even safe there. For example, if you read through my box you will see that even there Luckybeitia beat me to a delivery. Now *that* was ANNOYING.
Hoshichan on Apr 26, 2007
@aaron, that IS annoying. :\ I only filled a request from someone's box once, and only because the person had replied to the other that they were out of stamps. Otherwise, I wouldn't have dreamed of it. [shakes head] I sit and refresh my threads when they're active, but still I can't hardly make any deliveries. I'm almost afraid to post a 5K-plz post, I don't know that I could monitor it often enough to actually GET to 5K. :P
tamashii on Apr 26, 2007
@aaroncampbell: I’ve seen others pilfer others boxes and then post about it in the same box (I won’t name names, you know who you are). I have even had my box sniped.
In a thread, however, I tend to open it up to anybody as I am more about spreading icons than earning the points. At this point, I just don’t have the stamps to make mass mailings anymore.
I have also opened up my box to some members requesting they fill orders I can’t. That’s good community relations to me. Again, I would rather orders be filled than get points. Badges are hella-kewl, but I’ll get them all eventually. Oh yes, all of them… and their little dogs too.
My stance is: Threads are a free-for-all, unless you specifically make some very obvious claim to reach a goal (like aaroncampbell’s 5k thread). All requests in a Box, however, are for the two individuals involved only. I would strongly recommend that unless you made the same request in hundreds of boxes, you accept only the set sent by the person you requested it from. And if you are a Box Sniper: Back off. Realize that I (and maybe others) have a list of your kind and will not do business with you. Period.

I know the chefs have a ton of requests on how to improve the site. Maybe a good one would be where only the owner of the message box can see all their messages, and the person who left a message can only see that message (sort of how the trash can works). Hopefully that makes sense.
KAHRules on Apr 26, 2007
Plus you can allow selected friends to view your entire message box.
Jen on Apr 26, 2007
But Kah, then we wouldn't be able to read feedback on topics that don't deal with icon exchanging.

whoah, I didn't know someone would be rude enough to snipe on someone else's box. I for one, feel bad if someone who requested on my box whenever I'm offline. I know the excitement of receiving icons and not being able to get it the same day. I for one already asked gwsd to send me the next set if ever he gets it. It seems it would be best just to deal with people I know best IMHO. I really don't care about getting all the badges, as tamashii said, we'll get them eventually.
@ tamashii
well said ;)

@ KAH
I agree with jen. Jen was able to know me more by reading my box and other's boxes too. Public box for me is a good thing, I was able to know some people too by reading their boxes.
KAHRules on Apr 26, 2007
Jen & Cry187, I never thought about that. I have to admit that I have made friends by reading their messages.

FWIW, I think we have a general solution to this "problem". We're working on it. That said, don't expect us to add a big "rules" post to the blog. We simply don't care to moderate that much. Just be excellent to each other!

What Josh said, in a very Bill and Ted kinda way. (Or was that a Tao of Steve way?)
BlackBart on Apr 27, 2007
This now seems to be sufficiently out in the open and, as usual, good sense and general good will seem to be prevailing. I think it was important to spread the word about more personalised/private trades though.
anti on Apr 27, 2007
It takes a lot of work/timing to receive from a certain person. I love all you regulars and also the little newbies too. We may have to seperate the friendship from the trading just a little but. I certainly couldn't decide which of you I would like to send me the next delivery! I know it will come, though. :D
SpamDog on Apr 27, 2007
the old system you used to be able to send emails back and forth to make request.. granted that is how you sent icons too.. but I wonder if some either private message system or just email button could be added..
Plus that would allow relationships with people outside the buffet (yes.. there is actually life outside the buffet) without having to post your email all over the message board or in your blog/profile.. tho I could just put my website up there too I guess
