SpamBots or Duplicate Accounts?
Anyone else getting comments and/or requests in their "boxes" by what seem(s) like the same person, only with a new "cute chick" photo each time?
Is it me or are they just trying to collect the whole set without playing by the rules?

I checked out your page. I see what you mean. Ugh!

Hate to say it, but those accounts make me feel like IB is turning into a really nice MySpace. Not that it is or would turn into a really nice MySpace - just the way I feel when I see them posting in threads and in Boxes.
I doubt the legitimacy of the accounts, but it’s not my place. The only thing I can do is not send deliveries to them if I believe they are “gamers”.

Everyone knows the accounts are fake but, unfortunately, these people get the sets faster than people with normal avatars... That's sad.

I think it's also that people here want to spend their stamps so the 'gamers' or whatever you want to call them, really don't have any trouble getting said icons, without being a VIP.

Ewwwww!

A couple of the accounts in question are actually dupes and have been dealt with. Otherwise, just feel free not to deliver to any user who rubs you the wrong way.

And if you want to drop some hints about "IconBuffet etiquette" -- all the better.

In the same vein as this - will we ever have the opportunity to delete comments on our own page(s)?

Cheiie - yeah, we're actually working on this today.

You guys work so hard - thank you. Don't think it goes unnoticed.

I spotted two others with the same flavour yesterday who looked a bit suss. One had replied to a comment, which made it look more human, but both appeared to be bot-like in nature.
I was keeping an eye on them to see if I was wrong and it was just the style of writing of someone with limited English, but as both accounts are toast this morning, it looks like my initial suspicions were correct.
I don't really see the point of releasing a bot onto IB. There was no URL on their profiles (when I saw them) to lead you off to a spamming domain. The comments I saw were blunt and out of context, but not spamming. Well, not the ones I saw. It makes me think of the innocuous comment spam runs I see on blogs I administer that look like test patterns prior to an attack.
On the plus side, there's now a pattern of behaviour that will flag the attention of the chefs for when these idiots try it again.
I hate that running a blog or message board or any site with an interactive element ends up becoming an exercise in combatting morons who see it as their playground for spam. We all have much better things to do with our lives than cleaning up after the stupid.
