Writers Strike over...May lose shows like Chuck

I was reading on abc's website yesterday that now that the strike is all but over, the networks are planning th return of their fall shows. Some young show like Chuck might not return at all.

I think that it is really sad that interesting shows like this may not get a fair chance because people couldn't work out their differences...oh well guess we can always watch more lie detector shows, oh Yay!

I told you about the show!

Quote from the article:
"nd then there are the shows that may not ever see the glow of the screen again because of the strike: freshman series including "Chuck" and "Pushing Daises" and the critically acclaimed but ratings-sagging Friday Night Lights."

soprano on Feb 12, 2008

may not

That's not a certain conclusion, then.

annikalee on Feb 12, 2008

Boo hoo hoo.
I ♥ Chuck

soprano on Feb 12, 2008

We all do.

I had read somewhere that some shows will get different treatment. Veteran shows returning sometime in April, while the freshman shows would be held off until next Fall.

I sure hope they don't toss out any freshmen shows.

dustybunny on Feb 12, 2008

Article that claims Chuck may not be lost.

I also wouldn't trust what ABC is reporting about NBC shows. Maybe they were getting slaughtered by Chuck and want to make us think it is going away so that we get invested in some ABC blather and don't go back to Chuck.

When the strike was looking like it was ending, my local NBC affiliate was talking about when we could expect new episodes, and Chuck was mentioned as not until the fall.

"NBC remains high on newcomer "Chuck," but the odds are that the show won't return until late summer (after the Olympics) or early fall. "Heroes," with its elaborate serialized storyline, is also expected to take the summer to regroup." Variety

i sure hope so. does anyone know anything about Numb3rs and CSI (both on cbs)?

annikalee on Feb 12, 2008

i did some research and all i'm hearing is that most shows will be coming back and that networks want to push new episodes. Some though will not be coming back until later.

From the Variety article I linked earlier:

"Dramas moving forward include all three editions of the "CSI" franchise, "NCIS," "Without a Trace," "Cold Case," "Numbers," "Criminal Minds," "Ghost Whisperer" and "Moonlight."

Laffers given a greenlight are "Two and a Half Men," "How I Met Your Mother" and "The Big Bang Theory."

Net is hoping to crank out eight segs of its comedies and six or seven segs of each of its dramas. Newcomer "Moonlight" will likely produce fewer segs."

*sigh* Shows like these succeed, but what happened to Firefly? Network execs suxors.

I wonder what would happen if a producer/creator decided that they wanted their show to not be canceled and paid for the air time (like an infomercial does) and sold their own advertising. Would the network go for it?

bkendall on Feb 13, 2008

that is interesting. I also wonder how far we are from major productions like this continuing online only. I know to some degree it has been experimented with, but nothing in the caliber of Heros or Chuck.

MaskedJedi on Feb 13, 2008

@ emanaton - Yes! It sucks that Firefly is gone and that Serenity sucked so much. Though I heard that it's going to be reshown and that if it gets more viewers, it might get picked up again. It's not like Joss Whedon's doing anything, anyway.
