IB Dashboard: LAUNCHED!

UPDATE: February 6th, 2008
Due to the length of this thread, along with some of the new enhancements made to the Dashboard, you can see more recent information here: IB Dashboard: Enhancements...

------------------------------------------------------------

As of today, I'm officially launching the IB Dashboard. Please be aware that it's running on an Access database, so it's speed could be horribly slow when put under strain, and there are still a few features that I haven't finalized as yet. In addition, the My Stats page will be undergoing a redesign within the next 30 days. But for version 1, it's set, and ready to go.

Enjoy, and please feel free to let me know of any glaring issues (some of which I'm already aware of). I'll be posting updates to my blog. So enjoy it as much as I have in building it.

NOTE: Major props go to Jen for all of her diligent CSS & design tips during the development of the site. Without her help, the IB Dashboard would be far from beautiful to view.

------------------------------------------------------------

UPDATE:
As noted below, I'm MUCH closer to being complete with a functional product. I've posted a second preview image, and as long as the testing goes as planned, I'm hoping to launch by the middle of this week. I'll keep you all updated!

Preview | Preview 2

------------------------------------------------------------

For those of you that enjoyed my IB Dashboard Excel file, I'm working on something new & improved. I still don't have official approval from the powers that be, but I'll offer this screenshot as an enticement.

memodude on Aug 28, 2007

dude, just release a beta. what "powers that be" are you talking about?

bjendrick on Aug 28, 2007

"Powers That Be" are the Chefs, particularly since I've used their entire look & feel. And I'd love to launch a Beta as soon as it's up. For now, it's not even 20% done. But I'm working as quickly as I can.

danielsemper on Aug 28, 2007

looks cool man

jameshilton on Aug 28, 2007

Looks good, hope you get the go ahead.

a2 on Aug 28, 2007

Thanks for the preview, I can't wait.....

bjendrick on Sep 10, 2007

Almost there, and a new preview can be seen here: Preview 2

I ended up changing the entire look & feel, but I think it has been for the best. I only have about 20% to complete before I can release it to the masses. Stay tuned!

suh-weet

THiC on Sep 13, 2007

Seriously can't wait.

ehooton on Sep 13, 2007

me neither!

Jen on Sep 17, 2007

Show your support for this project by adding IB Dashboard to your profile now!

elnitido52 on Sep 17, 2007

Great one, cannot wait to have a full functional one in my hands. I'm still using the first one. IB Dashboard added too. Thanks.

a2 on Sep 17, 2007

Lookin' awesome. Can't wait to see the final result!

bjendrick on Sep 17, 2007

@elnitido52: Even better than an Excel version, this is an entirely online application. That way it's as portable as IB.

Stay tuned everyone. I'm a few hours away from having most of the major bugs worked out, and just about ready to release it to the masses. I just hope that Access will be able to handle the initial strain until I can get SQL Server as the backend.

dyar on Sep 24, 2007

Excellent Job Ben :)

bjendrick on Sep 24, 2007

Thank you... as stated in my message, I think I still have a lot to do, but I'm glad you like it.

redpoint on Sep 24, 2007

Great. The perfect complement for IB profile.

rajr19 on Sep 24, 2007

wow. nice job.

anti on Sep 24, 2007

Nice! :)

soprano on Sep 24, 2007

Nice

elnitido52 on Sep 24, 2007

Great!
Still missing a couple of things but works well. Thanks for "The Tool"

bjendrick on Sep 24, 2007

@Elnitido52: What suggestions might you have?

dustybunny on Sep 24, 2007

I like it.

I've had some trouble logging in. Anyone else have this problem? (I signed up on IB Dashboard)

bjendrick on Sep 24, 2007

Hmmm. What kinds of problems did you have with logging in? It's possible that I have some stray code causing issues, or it could be the database starting to show it's stress points. If it's easier, you can e-mail me at: bjendrick at timelydbs dot com

soprano on Sep 24, 2007

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a0006'

Overflow

/iconbuffet/user_stats.asp, line 772

bjendrick on Sep 24, 2007

Soprano, please try again. It might have been a divide by zero error, so I added a few lines of validation to the code. I'll be out of pocket over the next 2-3 hours, but please let me know of any other issues you run into. Thank you for letting me know!

elnitido52 on Sep 24, 2007

I've got the same error but after you sign up it does not show anymore.

soprano on Sep 24, 2007

Soprano, please try again. It might have been a divide by zero error, so I added a few lines of validation to the code. I'll be out of pocket over the next 2-3 hours, but please let me know of any other issues you run into. Thank you for letting me know!

A new error (on the user icons page this time):

ADODB.Field error '800a0bcd'

Either BOF or EOF is True, or the current record has been deleted. Requested operation requires a current record.

/iconbuffet/user_icons.asp, line 62

soprano on Sep 24, 2007

a side note: Personally, I find that almost all of the info in the IB Dashboard is covered by my profile page and my stats page (because I don't care when my tokens refill, considering I waste around 15 every month, and also because I have all the sets).

bjendrick on Sep 24, 2007

@soprano: I think this last error is due to you having all of the sets. Let me figure it out, and thank you for the feedback.

iconmaster on Sep 24, 2007

I've actually been using this myself to keep track of the family totals -- that's one thing we don't have an easy way to get with our tools. Great work!

bjendrick on Sep 25, 2007

All: I made some updates last night to several of the key pages. The error that soprano was seeing has now been resolved, and a few other things were cleaned up. If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know. Thank you.

VINZ on Sep 25, 2007

cool! nice work!

VINZ on Sep 25, 2007

improvement idea: put checkboxes in front of each delivery and selectable list with action to perform. It would be easier to add several sets in 1 time

bjendrick on Sep 25, 2007

@VINZ: Yes, I had thought of doing that, and had that requested during my Beta testing. What I found was that the overhead to process an entire page of records wasn't cost prohibitive over a one-time click through process. At least not for version 1, but I totally agree that the selection process could be easier in the beginning.

robbyrice on Sep 25, 2007

very nice, I enjoy using it.

tamashii on Sep 25, 2007

holy shit!

VINZ on Sep 25, 2007

improvement idea #2: in the stats page, for families received, it would be great to have something like received/released (ex: alexandria 8/10)

socrates on Sep 25, 2007

wow... thanks!!!

bjendrick on Sep 25, 2007

@VINZ: That is a great idea. Let me add that to my list, and I'll get it updated soon.

bjendrick on Sep 25, 2007

A new reference page is born: Full Family List

Read About It

dyar on Sep 25, 2007

How do you access that page from your Stats Page?

bjendrick on Sep 25, 2007

The link is on the main page, next to the Family Total list. I could add it to the Stats page, but I'm not certain where best it would fit. Let me know your thoughts.

robbyrice on Sep 25, 2007

not sure if this has already been mentioned, but the "Profile Link" link under Extras on the Stats page is broken. You need to add people in there. Right now the link is showing this for me http://www.iconbuffet/robbyrice, whereas it should be http://www.iconbuffet/people/robbyrice. Just a little suggestion.

laulena on Sep 25, 2007

great work ben!
@robbyrice: my profile page has worked fine.

robbyrice on Sep 25, 2007

@ laulena - it's not the profile page on the IB Dashboard itself. It is the link on the Stats page that should take me to my profile page here on IconBuffet.

dyar on Sep 25, 2007

@robbyrice - I think for that link to work you have to go to the Dashboard Profile and enter the information in the IB Profile URL Box.

I use a different User Name and Password on the Dashboard than I do with IB so I didn't fill out the IB Profile URL Box.

bjendrick on Sep 25, 2007

@robbyrice: I have some basic link checking for that field, and if it doesn't have a reference to IconBuffet, it adds it. You might have more luck just adding your whole URL text of "http://www.iconbuffet.com/people/robbyrice" for now, and I can see if I can update the code to help avoid that in the future.

Thank you for the heads up!

laulena on Sep 25, 2007

@robbyrice: yeah, that's what i meant. make sure you filled it out when you go to your profile info on the dashboard.

robbyrice on Sep 25, 2007

wow that was a big error on my part. Sorry about that. I set up my dashboard really quickly before I had to leave to go somewhere so I didn't have time to check everything out and obviously I didn't fill out my IB profile link correctly. Thanks dyar. bjendrick has done an excellent job with the IB Dashboard and I certainly didn't want it to sound like I was critisizing him.

tweakedeye on Sep 25, 2007

gangbusters....that is cool.....you should get free icons for life with all that effort.

bjendrick on Sep 25, 2007

@robbyrice: No, no. Not at all, robbyrice. It's fine. I'd much rather hear about potential issues than to just let them drift by. I like to know if things may not be working correctly. You're fine.

@dyar: I added that link field merely as a helpful way to link between the two systems. As I was developing, I realized that it was easier to jump between the systems if I had a link readily available since I often times close my tabs out of habit. However, it's completely optional, and it will even accept a link to another page if desired.

Enjoy!

bjendrick on Sep 25, 2007

@tweakedeye: Thank you, but I doubt the Chefs are that benevolent. Regardless, it was a labor of love, as well as a great learning experience. I had tons of fun doing it. I'm glad that fellow IBer's are enjoying it as well.

JBVisions on Sep 25, 2007

Very nice but how do I add my badge totals? At the moment it says I have -110 stamps.

JBVisions on Sep 25, 2007

All I have on the profile page is Avatar, Fan and Birthday.

bjendrick on Sep 25, 2007

@JBVisions: Have you already entered in your total deliveries for each icon category? If not, be sure to do that, and if you already have, it may take some additional information to figure out what might be going weird in your profile.

Please let me know if that works.

misterhaan on Sep 25, 2007

very cool! i considered doing something like this (that wouldn't have looked as nice) but then saw you were working on it.

any plans to track deliveries? for example i would enter that i sent so-and-so shanghai toolbox today, and then the dashboard would tell me when that should expire and give me my stamps back. also it could let me mark it as returned or accepted.

bjendrick on Sep 25, 2007

@misterhaan: Some of what you mention is going to be part of the inactive "Friends" link in the menu bar, which will probably be part of version 2 while I hunt down some of the errors that people have mentioned. Although, I hadn't planned on doing delivery tracking... but it's certainly a great idea.

When I get closer, I'll contact you (and everyone else) to get your thoughts more on the features.

elnitido52 on Sep 25, 2007

@bjendrick - a HELP section might me cool.
It will save time to you and the user. Again, grrrrrrreat job!

rajr19 on Sep 25, 2007

odd. its all weird...

bjendrick on Sep 25, 2007

@elnitido52: I considered that, and may still do it, or I might find a way to just integrate it into a blog format or something so that I don't have to code a bunch of HTML. Great idea!

@rajr19: Are you having site issues, or just having fun? Just want to be sure I'm not ignoring a true need for assistance. ;)

JBVisions on Sep 26, 2007

OK, I know what's happened left a message in your box.

rajr19 on Sep 26, 2007

how do i add the sets i've gotten.

smfh25 on Sep 26, 2007

Thanks for this, it's really nice!

bjendrick on Sep 26, 2007

@rajr19: On the "Icons" page, click the star at the end of the row. Unfortunately, since you have all of the sets, you'll have to click 130 times, but that's the only option for the time being. Let me know if that helps.

JBVisions on Sep 26, 2007

I had to do it 100 times so 30 isn't many more ;o)

dyar on Sep 26, 2007

Once you've done it once you will only have to do it when new sets are released. All the entered information is saved.

Also NOTE, that you don't have to use your IB Username and/or Password. You can cereate a new name and password if you like. For those that may be squeamish about giving out that information (like me).

zelda013 on Sep 26, 2007

i've signed up now and filled everything out (and clicked 80 times on the star), it's very lovely ! thanks for all your hard work ! i'm sincerely impressed.

(hm, more IB-related ways to spend time i should be working... maybe i shouldn't thank you after all !)

Jen on Sep 26, 2007

Wow, what a good response to the tool Ben. :)

bjendrick on Sep 26, 2007

@zelda013: Thank you for the kind words, and sorry if I'm distracting you even further.

@ALL: Thank you for your words of encouragement, praise, and even feedback on improving the Dashboard. I was a bit nervous upon release only because I've never had a web application out in the wild before. So you all have helped to allay my fears, and I can see that the work I put into it has been well received. Thank you!

bjendrick on Sep 26, 2007

@ALL: And lest I forget, a mighty thank you needs to go out to Jen, as she was pivotal in helping to refine the Dashboard in both CSS to make it as attractive as it is, AND for helping to make critical application decisions. So even though my name is assigned to it by ownership, she deserves as much credit as myself.

Thank you, Jen!

soprano on Sep 26, 2007

The numbers are incorrect for me because there is no way to add two TV badges. Darn it! (Look at my profile, I have two.)

jwhitmire on Sep 26, 2007

soprano: you have mad referral skillz

bjendrick on Sep 26, 2007

ALL: I know that this & similar issues are occurring from strange happenings in IB. To help assist with this, I'll be adding an "IB Offset" field to the Dashboard to try & manually correct this.

At this point, I'm not sure if I'll need both a stamps & points offset, but I'm looking into it. For those of you with inconsistencies, I apologize, but I'll let you know when I come up with a solution since the problem is out of my control.

Thank you.

bjendrick on Sep 26, 2007

I am jealous of your referrals. :D

Jahnoth Vip-micro on Sep 26, 2007

I'm in. Looks great!

Jen on Sep 26, 2007

Yeah, I think Iconbuffet has counted some things twice. My manual calculations of stamps that I have just don't seem to add up with what should have been spent, based on the number of sets I have recieved and sent. I need to be audited by IB!

Jen on Sep 26, 2007

D'oh, before I forget, thanks for mentioning me Ben. :)

dyar on Sep 26, 2007

@ soprano - Did you get the 300 Bonus Points twice? If not there shouldn't be a difference in the calculations.

@ jen - I'll whisper you a note.

soprano on Sep 26, 2007

@dyar: Yep. (So I really haven't hit 20k)

SuperLlamel on Sep 26, 2007

@soprano: then i beat you in our race!!

bjendrick on Sep 26, 2007

ALL: Recent updates posted here.

soprano on Sep 26, 2007

On the user_stats.asp page, there are 4 extraneous </a> tags:
- after Days Until Token Refill
- after Total Possible Points
- after Outstanding Stamps
- after Fulfillment Percentage

Also on user_stats.asp: there are two divs with id="stats", which is forbidden. Change it to a class, maybe?

soprano on Sep 26, 2007

And there is a <br/> tag in the CSS (line 219). I think that's a mistake.

And on line 345 (.set_control tr), auto is an invalid value for padding. I think you meant padding: 2px 0;

louiemctool on Sep 26, 2007

nice job. me likey...

:)

bjendrick on Sep 26, 2007

@soprano: Thank you on the < /a > tags. A foible of copy & paste.

Fixed the < br /> tag too... nice catch!

And as far as the Div thing, I had no idea that you should only have one. I'll have to work on that, since any pages with two rows of table data are using the same construct.

Thank you on the padding error.

MrDee on Sep 27, 2007

would you like assistance moving from access to SQL Express (free)
whisper in my box if you would like some pointers.

Liquix Vip-micro on Sep 27, 2007

Make so that we can add friends, and when their refill date is reached we get a notification email, lol

bjendrick on Sep 27, 2007

@Liquix: Well, I had planned on allowing you to add Friends along with their refill dates, but I hadn't planned on including e-mail updates. I'm not even sure that my host provides that. I can look into it, but certainly not making any promises. Great idea though!

@MrDee: I didn't realize that it was the new version of the MSDE. Very cool, but my host doesn't provide it, nor do I have control over the box for installation. Hmm. Very cool though. I'll have to read up on it. But if you have any tips, please let me know.

soprano on Sep 27, 2007

The difference between an ID and a class is that an ID can be used to identify one element, whereas a class can be used to identify more than one.
—from Class and ID Selectors | HTML Dog

bjendrick on Sep 28, 2007

@soprano: Thank you for that tip. I'll be fixing that as I go through the pages for some other updates.

@All: In addition, I added a blog post about some of my Admin screens.

And don't worry. I've got some new things in the works.

bjendrick on Oct 01, 2007

Launched the new icon handling screens integrating check boxes & the ability to add/remove sets en masse. I've tried to test this as well as I can, but some of you may run into issues. Just let me know. Thank you.

MrDee on Oct 01, 2007

Now you add this - after I clicked 110 times!

Hey - it was worth it!

bjendrick on Oct 01, 2007

Well, sorry about that. I tried to get it in place as soon as I could. :)

dustybunny on Oct 01, 2007

I noticed that if I put sets as want, I only get a tally of how many sets I want. I would really like to see the tally of tokens much like how the type column tallies up the remaining token values.

bjendrick on Oct 01, 2007

@dustybunny: Great request, and it's added. Enjoy!

bjendrick on Oct 01, 2007

There was a coding error for changing a set from Received to Needed. I fixed it this morning from beneton's message in my box. I hope this didn't cause too many issues. Thank you.

Not so important, but in user_stats.asp it says "Set deliveries" instead of "Sent deliveries"

bjendrick on Oct 02, 2007

The text had in fact been correct, but after you mentioning it, I realized the excess of the word "Set". So I've removed it, and I think it makes more logical sense now. Thank you!

bjendrick on Oct 05, 2007

Updated the IB Dashboard with the new Pumpkin Eve 3 set, and if you'd like to receive the set, just post in my box.

bjendrick on Oct 08, 2007

Updated the IB Dashboard with the new Claiborne Nature set.

zelda013 on Oct 14, 2007

a request or suggestion here... if it's not too complicated, it would be really nice to make the lists on the sets received / needed pages sortable by heading ; so for example i could click on received date and see which sets i got from whom month by month.

if it's too hard to do, i can live without it, of course !

thanks again for the great work... i use it all the time.

rossanyl on Oct 14, 2007

wow, that's great! I have a little feature request if I may. Is it possible to choose the way the date is displaying? See, in Canada we put dd/mm/yy and you put mm/dd/yy. I'm always surprise to see a 15th month or even more :)

rossanyl on Oct 14, 2007

the more and more I see features, the more I like it. Great job !

silente on Oct 14, 2007

pretty cool tool. I have a usability suggestion though. In the 'icons' section, the 'received' and 'needed' pages need a page title. There's no mention on the page of which one you're looking at.

aemcg on Oct 14, 2007

Super Tool!!!!!!!!! I love it. THANK YOU

bjendrick on Oct 14, 2007

Great suggestions everyone. Thank you for your input.

@zelda013: I had been considering adding the sort feature to those pages as well, just hadn't gotten into the meat of it yet. I'll add it to the list & try to get it done in the near future.

@rossanyl: I hadn't considered the change to the dates, but now that you mention it, I can understand the confusion. I encounter the same thing when I view a European site, etc. Currently, I'll have to figure out how to implement an option for that since I think the date is mostly driven by the database, and it defaults to mm/dd/yy. I'll look into it, and let you know what I find out.

@silente: I had wondered about that as well. Let me look into it, and see if I can make some kind of indication on the page.

Thanx again everyone, and expect some updates in the next few days & weeks.

manon1165 Vip-micro on Oct 14, 2007

how cool! i signed up, and especially love the "promised to?" feature under icons needed...

bjendrick on Oct 15, 2007

I'm really pleased that you all are enjoying the Dashboard. It was a creation out of necessity since I was growing bored with my Excel spreadsheet, and it ended up being something that all IB'ers could use. So thank you once again for your input, insight, and interest in using the system.

Nell Vip-micro on Oct 15, 2007

I just signed up, it's really nice.

An usability suggestion: add a "check all" in the user list. Thanks Ben!

austingirl on Oct 15, 2007

Your Dashboard has really taken off! Great work, Ben! Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. A big thanks to Jen as well! :)

bjendrick on Oct 15, 2007

@Nell: Yeah, I thought of that just this weekend, particularly when I'm doing account tests when things are "weird". I need to look into the complexity of it, since I'm pretty sure it'll require some advanced javascript. I'll keep you all updated.

@austingirl: Yes, it certainly has. I think that somehow people have noticed it more with all of the new sets launched of late, but I'm not sure of that. I'll let you know if there's anything I can have you do. Thank you. ;)

aemcg on Oct 15, 2007

Ben,
Under badges in Dashboard, it has a crown and then says 1000 (points). What badge is the crown for? Thanks. :D

bjendrick on Oct 15, 2007

@aemcg: At this time, it's unconfirmed what this badge is for, and that's partly why it's listed at the end. Talk around the boards has guessed that it might be for 500 gold deliveries, or just 500 deliveries total. At this point, no one has claimed this badge (to my knowledge), and until confirmation, we're waiting. It's not even listed on ChickAzul's [FAQ] Badges post.

So that was a long answer for "I don't know". :)

aemcg on Oct 15, 2007

Thanks so much

bjendrick on Oct 15, 2007

You bet!

ChickAzul on Oct 15, 2007

looks great, thanks for the work

bjendrick on Oct 15, 2007

Just for clarification, did Dresden Symbol release to IBer's today? I know it's marked as released for Friday, but I want to make sure everything is accurate in the Dashboard. Thank you!

dyar on Oct 15, 2007

Released today

bjendrick on Oct 15, 2007

Thank you.

zelda013 on Oct 15, 2007

yay, sortable tables ! brilliant ! and wow, that was like *lightning* fast, too.

bjendrick on Oct 15, 2007

@zelda013: It was also a quick update since I was able to copy most of the code from the standard Icon Listing page. Glad that you like it though.

bjendrick on Oct 16, 2007

Updates, new features & tasty treats for the IB Dashboard.

VINZ on Oct 18, 2007

There is a bug with dates... (don't know if it has been disccussed already)
in the form the dates are displayed mm/dd/yyyy as in the list view they are displayed dd/mm/yyyy (which is fine for me cause i live in france), but when i choose to edit a date it still use mm/dd/yyyy
ex: i entered 10/11/2007 (for october 11th, 2007) then it displays "11/10/2007" on the icons page. Finally the date change to 11/10/2007 (november 10th, 2007) while i edit it...

bjendrick on Oct 18, 2007

@VINZ: I wondered if that was going to happen. It's based on me putting in the LCID code to make dates show properly for your language selection. Looks like I need to add a calendar or other feature to make date selection & display more uniform. Thank you for the heads up, and it's on my list to check out.

bjendrick on Oct 18, 2007

More updates have been added in the last few days to the IB Dashboard. You can read about them from the blog posts.

soprano on Oct 18, 2007

¡Ay, caramba!

Make sure to initialize the stamps/points offsets to 0, otherwise half of the calculations don't show up.

bjendrick on Oct 18, 2007

Dang... K. Hang on. Let me default that in the code.

bjendrick on Oct 18, 2007

Okay... if anyone is having another issue, please let me know.

@soprano: I believe this is corrected in the code. Sorry for the inconvenience.

bjendrick on Oct 19, 2007

Apparently the code change that I made earlier today didn't resolve the issue that soprano pointed out, so I just pulled the database down & updated all users with empty values to zero. This issue should now be resolved, but if anything else should rear it's head, please let me know. Thank you.

dyar on Oct 19, 2007

Loads just fine for me, maybe Ben was updating it with the new Set when you tried.

soprano on Oct 19, 2007

@a2: I get the same error.

dustybunny on Oct 19, 2007

@a2 and soprano: This seems to be an issue only in Safari. Myself and bjendrick have been working on this issue.

dyar on Oct 19, 2007

Still works just fine for me. The new New York Set is not in there yet.

a2 on Oct 19, 2007

Yep, I'm in Safari & it isn't loading. I'll move on over to Firefox.

bjendrick on Oct 19, 2007

Yeah guys, sorry about that. It has something to do with how the language value is extracted from Safari to then show dates, currency, etc in the proper localized format. For some reason, I think Safari doesn't play well with that, but IE & Firefox do. I'm looking into it, but if any of you happen to run across a possible resolution, please feel free to let me know.

And regarding the New York set, I'm getting it in very shortly. I think it showed up late in the day when I didn't check for it. Pesky Chefs! :D

soprano on Oct 24, 2007

(Same error with the Wii Internet Channel = Opera.)

davethegr8 on Oct 24, 2007

Very nice, except the ui isn't very intuitive.

lostinxlation on Oct 25, 2007

I LURVE it.

bjendrick on Oct 25, 2007

@soprano: Figures. Well, I'll keep looking into this.

@ALL: I've honestly not made many changes to the IBD in the last week or two since I lost my job this recent Monday. So I've been a bit consumed in finding other employment & such. Doesn't mean that I've stopped work, just focused on other things for the here & now.

Stay tuned, and more things are on the way.

zelda013 on Oct 26, 2007

wow... well i hope it turns out for the best. good luck, i hope you find a much better job really soon.

aemcg on Oct 26, 2007

Before you log on, the IBD stats page says the crown badge is worth 0 points. Shouldn't it be the Golden Crown requires 500 Gold deliveries to be sent, and it gives 2,000 Points. :D

soprano on Oct 26, 2007

@aemcg: That's right.

aemcg on Oct 26, 2007

:D

bjendrick on Oct 26, 2007

Good to know. I didn't realize that they released information for that badge. I'll incorporate the values into the system. Thank you!

redpoint on Oct 26, 2007

They didn't exactly "released" it... but danielsemper was the first one to get the badge and he did the big annoucement.

Bebeto on Oct 26, 2007

Great! Congrats for Daniel!

dustybunny on Oct 26, 2007

I'm pleased to announce that IBD is working in Safari once again (on Leopard)

Don't know what changed but it's working.

bjendrick on Oct 26, 2007

Very cool.

bjendrick on Oct 28, 2007

Um... I have no idea what changed, but glad to know that it's working in Safari again. Honestly, I'm totally baffled, but good to know.

silente on Oct 29, 2007

Can we have a "password reset" ability? I didn't write mine down and I'd like to reset it.

bjendrick on Oct 29, 2007

@silente: You have a message in your box.

@ALL: That is another feature that I'm working on, and will keep you updated on the status. In addition, over the last week, the Dashboard surpassed 100 users. Nice little milestone.

dyar on Oct 30, 2007

What happened to Tokyo Hygiene? It was there over the weekend.

poscogrubb on Oct 30, 2007

ohhhhhhh.... grumble grumble.
Why does the site ask for my IB password? I thought it was going to access my IB profile and fill in all the stats by itself. Instead I have to check 50 some check boxes...?? Or am I missing something?

dustybunny on Oct 30, 2007

from the front page:

The IB Dashboard is an independent free service that does not pass your user name & password through to IconBuffet. At no point does the Dashboard tie into IconBuffet & extract any of your account information.

poscogrubb on Oct 30, 2007

mea culpa.
A note in the Sign Up page might be helpful: Note: This is not your IB password. or something to that effect.

bjendrick on Oct 31, 2007

Tokyo Hygiene: Not sure, but be sure to go login to the Dashboard again, and view the Stats page. I think there might have been a set mixup on my part, so I apologize.

@poscogrubb: I'll be sure to add a note to signup page as well.

dyar on Oct 31, 2007

Nope, It shows I have 141/142 but Tokyo Hygiene doesn't appear in the Icons I Need Screen and there's no way to tell the System that I have it.

louiemctool on Oct 31, 2007

just wondering if there should be a "home" button other than the site logo. otherwise, being able to link to the card view of the icon list from within the icons page would be awesome.

as usual, awesome site, bjendrick!

:D

bjendrick on Nov 01, 2007

@dyar: Yeah, I figured out that I goofed on a database update. I locked out the system, fixed it & reloaded everything earlier tonight. When you get a chance, please confirm that you can see "Hygiene".

@louiemctool: Message in your box.

dyar on Nov 01, 2007

Everything is fine this morning Ben

rossanyl on Nov 01, 2007

@ben: tokyo hygiene is back! thanks you rock :)

bjendrick on Nov 01, 2007

Yeah, sorry about that guys. It was my mixup, and I think it affected about 17 users. The long & short of it was that the set was added twice by accident, and then I deleted one of the sets. Which happened to be the set that 17 people had already gotten added to their collection. So essentially, I just had to change out some references for those users. I'll try to avoid doing that in the future. ;)

Wile on Nov 03, 2007

A trouble there ... it says I have 7 outstanding stamps, but I do not have any ... dyar excel file says I do not have any, and I know I don't have ... where's the trouble ?

Wile on Nov 03, 2007

I saw the stamps offset ... but what was that exactly about ... I read about site slowdown but why are there those problems ? Aren't the stamps calculated ?

Wile on Nov 03, 2007

btw ... what about a feature to automatically update values ? such as a button somewhere in the profile ... then log into IB as the user, take the values (icon sets, points, stamps, stats, ...), and then update profile ...

bjendrick on Nov 03, 2007

@Wile: The stamps issue is happening in IB itself. Essentially, some of your deliveries aren't being calculated from your stamp count, so you end up having extras, etc.

The stamps offset in the Dashboard helps to allay this calculation issue by letting you enter a value (in your case negative), to make everything match out to zero. Not perfect, but the best I can do until IB is fixed.

And as far as doing screen scraping of your account details, it's a good idea, but might be more trouble than it's worth in the long run. Especially since the Dashboard is more of a helper tool, and a product of my time & effort. I've considered many of those kind of possibilities, but not sure it's cost vs. benefit is worth it... if that makes sense.

Granted, if our user count climbs drastically, and it keeps being asked for, it might be worth it. For now, it's hard to say. Thank you, and let me know if you have more questions on the offset.

danielsemper on Nov 05, 2007

I found 2 bugs:

- It is not counting the 2000 points of having the crown badge for 500 Gold Deliveries.

- It adds 2 extra tokens for having 60K points, and 4 extra tokens if you have 70K+ points.

bjendrick on Nov 06, 2007

For the first, I haven't added the new calculation for the Crown Badge. Fell behind a little bit on that.

For the second, it shouldn't be doing that at all. Weird. I'll have to review the calculations & make sure that I'm stopping at 10 bonus tokens.

Thank you for the heads up.

bjendrick on Nov 06, 2007

@danielsemper: Okay, I updated the 500 Gold Crown badge, so you should see that now.

Working on the bonus token issue next.

bjendrick on Nov 06, 2007

Should now have the bonus tokens fixed as well. Thank you for pointing that out, if you find it to still be problematic, please let me know.

MrDee on Nov 06, 2007

This just gets better by the day. Thank you.

bjendrick on Nov 07, 2007

Just glad everyone is enjoying the site.

Wile on Nov 10, 2007

missing 2 new sets : turkey hunt 2 and mallow atmo

dyar on Nov 10, 2007

^hmmmm... they were on there for me.

bjendrick on Nov 10, 2007

Added them late yesterday. Be sure to go to the "Stats" page. That is when the code compares sets in your "collection", either received or needed, and then adds anything new within the system. Hope that makes sense, and let me know if you have any questions.

louiemctool on Nov 10, 2007

da Chefs should give you extra tokens for making such a kick-ass tool. didn't mr. marstell himself say he uses the Dashboard...?

:D

supertux on Nov 11, 2007

I second that.
;)

bjendrick on Nov 11, 2007

Well, thank you louiemctool & supertux. While I certainly wouldn't object to getting more tokens, I have a feeling that it would be against the spirit in which others have contributed to IB. I know that a lot of add-on things have been built by other users, and it wouldn't be fair to them either.

But thank you for the kudos, and I appreciate your recognition of my effort. That's reward enough. ;)

bjendrick on Nov 13, 2007

@ALL: I posted a whole listing of new updates for the Dashboard in the Blog. Questions? You know how to reach me.

dyar on Nov 13, 2007

Thanks again Ben

soprano on Nov 13, 2007

Glad I could help with the LCID problem.

haibeiren on Nov 13, 2007

Just tried it out. Very very cool and very very addictive! ;) Thanks!

Wile on Dec 03, 2007

what about a place to have the deliveries (I mean somewhere to have the history of deliveries sent (date, set, to who, ...)) ?

bjendrick on Dec 04, 2007

@Wile: It's in work. My first attempt wasn't ideal, so I'm revising it, and adding it soon. That's what the "Friends" link in the toolbar should be for... so stay tuned!

jjmcgaffey on Dec 12, 2007

I love it - it looks very useful. But I can't figure out how to do one thing (set of things). How do I enter anything in the icon list - specifically, the Wanted list? There are more icons that I'm not interested in than that I am, and I'd love to be able to see them separately. But I don't see any way of entering anything in there.

MrDee on Dec 12, 2007

click on the name of the icon (in the icons needed list) - tick the wanted check box

myrheille on Dec 12, 2007

Also, I'd love it if the "Obtain" list could go further! I now have sets to use up 10 tokens even after June ;)

MrDee on Dec 12, 2007

if you reach 10,000 you get 2 extra tokens.
get trading!

jjmcgaffey on Dec 12, 2007

Thank you!

Wile on Dec 13, 2007

hum ... there's a big problem there !!!

http://www.timelydbs.com/ seems taken by another site ... what's the new address ? Need a server ? I can provide one (not as fast as I would in term of band, but it has the merit of existence ;o) ) ...

VINZ on Dec 13, 2007

did you forget the renewal thing?

Grusella on Dec 13, 2007

Can't access too...

oong on Dec 13, 2007

Shiny!

misterhaan on Dec 13, 2007

looks like the domain is one of those crappy parking pages with links intended to make money for somebody else. hope you can get it back!

dyar on Dec 13, 2007

I just get a blank page. I'm sure Ben is working on this, just hope he has a backup.

debbye on Dec 13, 2007

:-(

misterhaan on Dec 13, 2007

you get a blank page for /iconbuffet/, but if you go up to http://www.timelydbs.com/ it’s a parking page.

MrDee on Dec 13, 2007

Phew, I thought it was me

aemcg on Dec 13, 2007

Ben, what do we do?

Baldwin on Dec 13, 2007

Cry :'(

bjendrick on Dec 14, 2007

Sorry folks... I was in the process of moving my domain hosting to another (cheaper & faster) provider. To my dismay, they approved the switch over at 4:20am Thursday... while I was sleeping. All of yesterday, I was recovering from traveling back from visiting my family on the East Coast, and didn't think to check my e-mail or anything.

I apologize for the inconvenience. I have the IBD site back up, but it appears that it's still having a few issues with updating dates & such. So, I'm not sure how usable everything is as yet. I'll be digging into all of this today, and getting it running & fully operational as soon as I'm able.

Thank you for your patience, and for the offers to host the site. Stay tuned!

bjendrick on Dec 14, 2007

Okay all. It took a bit of doing, but the IBD should be up & totally operational. I apologize for the inconvenience, and thank you for your patience.

Jen on Dec 14, 2007

yay!!!! :D

simo84 on Dec 15, 2007

I really like it! The "Friends" tab is a non-implemented function, right? Because it doesn't work to me...

austingirl on Dec 15, 2007

Wonderful work, Ben & Jen!

bjendrick on Dec 15, 2007

@simo84: Yes, that is an unimplemented feature as yet. I was making a rough draft, and didn't like the direction it was going, so I'm reworking it. With luck, I'll have it up & running soon. Stay tuned!

simo84 on Dec 16, 2007

Thank you:)

jconstant on Jan 05, 2008

How about putting something under the badge section to show your progress towards earning each badge? (like 30/50 Gold sent for Halo, etc...)

Also maybe something that orders the badges by which one you are closest to earning?

bjendrick on Jan 05, 2008

I'm actually in the middle of reworking the entire calculation engine of the site to make the badges page, along with all of the other User Statistics easier to generate. Stay tuned, as I have some nice enhancements for the new year.

terremom on Jan 19, 2008

I just love all you've done (and your help from others) to make this such a great resource for all. I've enjoyed using it. Thanks so much.

miranoriel on Jan 19, 2008

What terremom said. :)

I can't log in to IB without having the IB Dashboard open in another tab as well; I've made a lot of progress in a short span of time here, and a lot of it's due to being able to keep track of my sets, stamps and points with IBD.

Thanks again!

mik on Feb 06, 2008
