The "Holiday" formerly known as Christmas...
Since it isn't PC to say Merry Christmas in public, I'd thought I'd start a blog where we can exchange Christmas greetings amongst celebrant's without the chance of offending anyone.
*WARNING* Those offended by the insensitive nature of the Christmas Greeting, avert your eyes now or click here!
Feel free to leave your Christmas greetings below, I'll start:

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, gender neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practised within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all.

Although I prefer the greeting: Merry Christmas, I think it's ironic that the folks that want to avoid any religious reference are using a word that is derived from Old English meaning Holy Day.
Merry Christmas to all.
Happy HOLYdays too!

I don't get the point of saying "Happy Holidays" so as not to offend someone. It would be just like saying Happy Valentine's Day...oops! do you believe in love?
I say Merry Christmas anyways!

@bdelisio: I didn't miss the point at all, you did. The point of Christmas for entirely too many people is the gifts received and given. Besides, I don't celebrate Christmas, so I just say happy holidays to people. And that, @laulena, is the point of that. It's not about causing or feeling offence, it's about not unnecessarily making people feel excluded. If the season is about "peace on earth and goodwill toward men," then everyone should feel like they're a part of that. By saying "happy holidays," you cover your bases. =)

I completely agree with this thread- I find that continuously saying "Happy Holidays" in stead of "Merry Christmas" just takes importance away from the holiday itself. Also, Christmas is a day. December 25th. If you don't celebrate the actual holiday, you can have a merry day-off anyway. Capice?
¡Feliz Navidad a todos! :D

I have friends who celebrate this time of year many ways. Each of us respects the others agency and right to choose. That's what this country was founded upon. Those of us who are old enough to remember the school "Christmas Programs" that have been replaced by the "Winter Pagents" may enjoy this email I received this week entitled: The W in Christmas
Each December, I vowed to make Christmas a calm and peaceful experience. I had cut back on nonessential obligations - extensive card writing, endless baking, decorating, and even overspending...
Yet still, I found myself exhausted, unable to appreciate the precious family moments and, of course, the true meaning of Christmas.
My son, Nicholas, was in Kinder-garten that year. It was an exciting season for a six year old.
For weeks, he'd been memorizing songs for his school’s Winter Pageant.
I didn't have the heart to tell him I'd be working the night of the production.
Unwilling to miss his shining moment, I spoke with his teacher and she assured me there'd be a dress rehearsal the morning of the presentation.
All parents unable to attend that evening were welcome to come then.
Fortunately, Nicholas seemed happy with the compromise.
So, the morning of the dress rehearsal, I filed in ten minutes early, found a spot on the cafeteria floor and sat down. Around the room I saw several other parents quietly scampering to their seats.
As I waited, the students were led into the room. Each class, accompanied by their teacher, sat cross-legged on the floor. Then, each group, one by one, rose to perform their song.
Because the public school system had long stopped referring to the holiday as "Christmas," I didn't expect anything other than fun, commercial entertainment songs of
reindeer, Santa Claus, snowflakes and good cheer.
So, when my son's class rose to sing, "Christmas Love," I was slightly taken aback by its bold title.
Nicholas was aglow, as were all of his classmates, adorned in fuzzy mittens, red sweaters, and bright snowcaps upon their heads.
Those in the front row - center stage - held up large letters, one by one,to spell out the title of the song.
As the class would sing "C is for Christmas," a child would hold up the letter C. Then, "H is for Happy," and on and on, until each child holding up his portion had
presented the complete message,"Christmas Love".
The performance was going smoothly, until suddenly, we noticed her;
a small, quiet, girl in the front row holding the letter upside down -
totally unaware her letter "M" appeared as W".
The audience of 1st through 6th graders snickered at this little one's mistake.
But she had no idea they were laughing at her, so she stood tall, proudly holding her "W".
Although many teachers tried to shush the children, the laughter continued until the last letter was raised, and we all saw it together.
A hush came over the audience and eyes began to widen.
In that instant, we understood the reason we were there, why we celebrated the holiday in the first place, why even in the chaos, there was purpose for our festivities.
For when the last letter was held high, the message read loud and clear:
"C H R I S T W A S L O V E"
And I believe He still is.
Amazed in His presence....humbled by His love.
Have a Merry Christmas

I fail to understand the reasoning behind everyone being so worried about being "PC." I'll say what I want and you can say what you want just as assuredly as I'll celebrate what I want and you can celebrate what you want.
Merry Christmas!! =D
Riverdog on Dec 24, 2007
As a Christian, I am offended when some says 'Happy Holidays' when; obviously, we are celebrating Christmas at this time of year. Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ and while it is a holy day, Christian's prefer the salutation 'Merry Christmas', 'Happy Christmas', 'Joyous Christmas' or a derivation thereof, to the more generic, more puerile 'Happy Holidays'.
Christianity, Islam, and Judaism all recognize Jesus Christ in some way as do most religions (see the Wikipedia article: Religious perspectives on Jesus). Therefore, why can't we just say Merry Christmas? Is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ really offensive to anyone?
On the eve of the birth of our God and Savior I wish you all the best.
Merry Christmas.
Granf on Dec 24, 2007
because offending minorities is a worse thing in this country than offending majorities. don't ask me why. The atheists/ACLU in this situation are the minorities.
Riverdog on Dec 24, 2007
I would have to imagine that even atheists and agnostics don't have much of an issue with the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. Jesus was an important historical figure as was George Washington and Martin Luther King, among many others, whose birthdays we do celebrate in the U.S.
renbot on Dec 24, 2007
@Riverdog: I don't think it's the offense so much as it's just kind of weird to have someone say "Merry Christmas" to you when you don't celebrate it. I don't get offended when people say "Merry Christmas" (I just respond with the same), but it's just kind of weird. I guess it's similar to if I wished you a Happy Rosh Hashanah-- you wouldn't be offended, but you would be kind of odd.
With that being said, I hope everyone who celebrates Christmas has a happy one, and those who don't have a nice day off of work. :)
