Guilds/Clans and their Standings

I thought I'd list the guilds I know of, and give their points standings. If you want something else added here, post it and I'll edit the list (I left out any with just one person). You can also view the most recent IB Clan Standings.

The "Overall" ranking is the sum of the clan's position in each of the other 3 categories, so if they were #1 in points, #6 in people, and #1 in points/person, they would have an overall of 8. A lower overall score is better.

Go Pirates! We still have about 10 or so members who have not join due to tiny issue with their profile. We will be number one soon.

KatieK on May 16, 2007

Curse you, IconMaster with your 600K points!

aaroncampbell on May 16, 2007

Could be. The only one I see is sloan, who has a Trailing Space. That's another 240pts.

Forevagrey on May 16, 2007

the are other cases too, some have accidentally forgot about adding a "s'" or forgot the word "the" completely or both.

dishg on May 16, 2007

Can I join lego too? =) What about the caveman guild?

aaroncampbell on May 16, 2007

Right you are. I don't see any without the s (maybe you guys are getting vloser to one roof?), but Pirates has 3 people that aren't under "The Pirates" (Teiko, Ushao, and chef) for a total of another 200pts.
As a side note, matthazinski wants to make SURE he's a pirate. He's listed under The Pirates, Pirates, AND Pirate.

Forevagrey on May 16, 2007

we been telling matthazinski it is ok to remove the other two. Plus we got a few on the list that has not put the name under (to my knowledge there are at least 5 of them, with three thousand or so combined)

josh Vip-micro on May 16, 2007

Seriously... I think we need to edit our Clan calculations to not include Chef points. That kinda tips the scales. : /

SuperLlamel on May 16, 2007

Yeah, iconmaster kind of ruins it for the clans he isn't in.

kmfnj on May 16, 2007

Forevagrey on May 16, 2007

well Shinobi is the first clan over 100K with out iconmaster.

BlackBart on May 17, 2007

Not everyone is just a "points bagger". Pirates has the most members and is therefore most popular clan. QED.

cheiie on May 17, 2007

Seriously - our whole point was about the points making things get out of hand / creating whiners, now look at this. Heh.

cheiie on May 17, 2007

Except for the TP situation, because that's just knowledge I need to know about everyone, let's face it.

daveamun on May 17, 2007

All this just seems to prove that there are just two kinds of people in the world:

Those Who Think There Are Two Kinds Of People In The World: TWTTA2KOPITW
And Those Who Don't: TWD't

tamashii on May 17, 2007

@BlackBart/cheiie: you both are absolutely right. The whole Pirate thing came about to satirize the importance placed on points by members here. I created the IB Shinobi Clan because, in my opinion, ninjas are the only thing aw35om3R than pirates. And pirates are hella better than anything after that.

Ultimately, the points IB Shinobi has are in part because it is populated by the heavy hitters of IB.

BlackBart on May 17, 2007

@tamashii - join us! (you surely can't resist?)

cheiie on May 17, 2007

I know, Tamashii - it was our intent. We had fun doing it. Now this clan thing has come about, and we're back to competing. It's not that I renounce competition, I just find it odd that others can't quite relinquish it, if that makes sense.

aaroncampbell on May 17, 2007

Cats have pulled ahead of dogs :)

ehooton on May 17, 2007

I think the whole thing is funny. A while back everyone changed their icons to show their token count. Now those Avatars are being thrown out the window for the newest fad. It makes you wonder what the next fad will be. But, hey, I don't want to be left out! I really don't care about the whole point thing, either. I just like the interaction with others. Can I be in EVERY clan???

anti on May 17, 2007

The pirates would be right proud to have you, ehooton.

Cats, not so sure. ;)

Forevagrey on May 17, 2007

well legally yes, however that is dependent on your clan.

For pirates, we have no clear cut policy. We prefer you do not join any other clans. However, IB Anonymous is an exception to this rule. BUT joining the ninjas are crossing the line.

As for avatars, the rule for pirates is subjective. However, it is recommended that you include something from Amsterdam High Seas into you avatar, that is if you have that package. (it cost a fortune of tokens)

"Quartermaster" Forevagrey

tamashii on May 17, 2007

@ehooton: I would say joining opposing guilds doesn’t really work as it is an “either-or” show of support.

As for changing your avatar, I think there is a link to all the Pirate avatars that you can snag one from. I don't know where that link is…

While having everyone sharing a similar avatar, the IB Shinobi Clan does not require you to change it - just many have because Ninjas are awesome.

I'm thinking about starting the IB Paradox clan - it will only be open to people that don't belong to ANY clans

tamashii on May 17, 2007

LOL@iqon

GENIUS!

aaroncampbell on May 17, 2007

Lol @ iqon
Ok, the stats have been renovated. You can get up to the moment stats at http://xavisys.com/iconbuffet_standings.php and you can also see how your clan measures up by adding it to the URL like this: http://xavisys.com/iconbuffet_standings.php?clans=Eragon,joystiq,Stargate atlantis

This will load SLOW. IB doesn have an API, so data has to be scraped by loading the pages for each clan.

aaroncampbell on May 17, 2007

Etherbrian throws off the cats totals a bit...but what you gonna do?

Forevagrey on May 17, 2007

the new system in place is a lot fairer. Trust me: because i suggested it!

ehooton on May 17, 2007

@tamashii - I know... :( I was joking, kind of... :)

lparziale on May 17, 2007

Iconmaster left the 10 step IB Anonymous meetings. Please rally around our fallen brother...

anti on May 17, 2007

@ehooton, that's good, because I was most certainly joking about the cat thing.

@Iparziale, it is sad to see someone with such promise fall off the wagon like that, we must comfort ourselves with the knowledge that it only means more icons for all of us!

tamashii on May 17, 2007

etherbrian (a chef) is in Cats - totally altering the score there. Take 260,930 points away from that category. I mean, consider the average points per person you would have in Cats. 36k.

rajr19 on May 17, 2007

yeah, the only reason cats is winning is etherbrian is in it

i suggest a chefs category, for chefs only!
it would be cool to see all their points together and all the chefs
--------------------------------------------------------------
be sure to check out my blog

tamashii on May 17, 2007

Chefs I know of:
josh, iconmaster, etherbrian, sco, keegan, jc

Total points:
906,800

Average Points/Chef
151,133

mik on May 17, 2007

Chefs definitely throw points off.
I suggest chefs count toward people totals but be excluded from points totals or points per person averages.
(easy for me to say, I'm not the one managing all this!)

Forevagrey on May 17, 2007

well the easiest way is to send the chefs out of the guilds as an agreement between the members and the chefs.

anti on May 17, 2007

Poor chefs.

Forevagrey on May 17, 2007

only way to make it fair,

lparziale on May 17, 2007

@anti, you make an excellent point. We should have thrown Iconmaster OUT of the group to be sure we would get more icons regularly. Uh oh, I feel a relapse coming on. Help me!!

Forevagrey on May 18, 2007

pirates are still able to recruiting one or two new member daily. Pirates is the only clan that can say it has the most members.

aaroncampbell on May 18, 2007

True. Pirates can say they have the most members, Cats can claim the most points as well as points/person (**cough**chef!**cough**), and the IB Shinobi Clan can claim "overall"

tamashii on May 18, 2007

I need to stop using the "If you can snatch the pebble from my hand" method for recruiting…

tamashii on May 18, 2007

Just subtract etherbrian's point value from the Cats group and you have the true value.

aaroncampbell on May 18, 2007

Right, I'm just to lazy to go modify my script to do that. So until they fix the points thing, everyone's just gonna have to do it themselves.

And for the record, I think the pebble snatching method is perfect! Surgical precision is the way of the shinobi.

daveamun on May 18, 2007

@tamashii: I need to stop using the "If you can snatch the pebble from my hand" method for recruiting…

It would be okay if you took the sword out of your other hand ...

I Like Corn will prevail, who want to JOIN TODAY?

zelda013 on May 18, 2007

I was going to create the IB Free Radical clan for those who think the whole clan fiesta is funny but prefer to watch from afar (not a joiner. "I don't want to belong to any club that will accept me as a member" -Groucho Marx), but then i saw Iqon's proposal for the IB Paradox clan, and now i'm torn...

Forevagrey on May 18, 2007

Stop creating more clans and join existing clans. Clans should based of a delivery set like pirates (Amsterdam High Seas), cats/dogs (Pet shop), Ninjas are exception because they are somewhat cool and they will get icons eventually.

This is all my opinion. But we should stop creating more clans.

iconmaster on May 18, 2007

Thanks for all your work on this, aaron! Very interesting info.

taral Vip-micro on May 18, 2007

aaroncampbell on May 18, 2007

No problem. If you ever DO create an API, it would make it a lot easier...but I'm OK for now :)

zelda013 on May 18, 2007

i maybe should mention, IB Free Radical has a current potential membership of 1 and is not actively recruiting.

i say this to encourage the proliferation of even *more* (binary or not) clans : i think that is part of the fun. from the outside, anyway. ;)

aaroncampbell on May 20, 2007

There is currently a 3-way tie for first overall:
IB Shinobi Clan
Cats
IB Anonymous

It seems that IB Anonymous got a boost from their recent meeting!

lparziale on May 20, 2007

;)

SuperLlamel on May 20, 2007

Yay IB Anonymous!

Forevagrey on May 20, 2007

told you we need a tie breaker formula. Since i was the one who invented the system i will be blamed for this fault. I am trying to think of the most safest way of resolving this problem. It might require us to add another category unfortunately.

aaroncampbell on May 20, 2007

Forevagrey: It will resolve itself. They said that eventually chef's points won't count in the totals. That will eliminate cats. Then, as people join clans, things will change. For example, right now, if 2 people join TP Overhand, they will have more people than IB Anonymous, which would move IB Anonymous out of the tie for first.

I don't think it's a big deal.

SuperLlamel on May 21, 2007

@Forevagrey: Also, adding more categories will probably result in even more ties.

Forevagrey on May 21, 2007

True... well we let it stick this way for now. Until there are enough complaints then i will present you with the answer i came up with.

aaroncampbell on May 21, 2007

Forevagrey: For the record, there have been no "complaints" at all. I pointed out that there was a tie, but no one seems to mind.

Forevagrey on May 21, 2007

this needs updating, pirates have gained 2k in points plus one more member

Can't the chefs give us an extra column for guilds/clans?

Stratification on May 22, 2007

I've wondered if customizable columns wouldn't be ideal. I have a suspicion that the Chefs have their hands full with the pile of suggestions they've already got, along with their own cool ideas, and making great icon sets.

tamashii on May 23, 2007

aaron - until chef points cease to contribute to a given group/tag, please remove Cats from your PHP script. Or write some code that subtracts etherbrian’s points.

annethecat on May 23, 2007

Can someone please inform me (through my comments in my profile so I'm sure to see it) what difference it makes if one is apart of a guild? :) Thanks!

Just for the record - No difference!

aaroncampbell on May 23, 2007

tamashii: the chefs' home pages don't show their points, and when I have my script request one of the IBID files (http://www.iconbuffet.com/people/etherbrian/ibid/v-profile/orange) I get the login page, rather than the JS code for the sticker.

aaroncampbell on May 23, 2007

aaroncampbell on May 23, 2007

Chefs should be able to join without affecting these results now.

heinzelman on May 23, 2007

hey, why isn't I Like Corn on the list, foul! :)

gracias, the little people thank you :)

annethecat on May 24, 2007

Well difference or not, I've GOT to be with cats!

Forevagrey on May 24, 2007

the Ninjas are now really dominated, except members. Pirates are still holding on, barely...

Domo on May 24, 2007

Plese add our small clan from Czech Republic, the heart of Europe, called "IB Czech".
Link: http://www.iconbuffet.com/people/tags/IB%20Czech

Domo on May 25, 2007

Thanks

tamashii on May 25, 2007

Shouldn’t IB Czech have, like, 100 people in it?

aaroncampbell on May 25, 2007

I have found that most of my referrals arean't that involved yet. They join, I send them enough sets for 10 tokens (trying to sell them on ahs of course), and then they can't do much until next month. Hopefully more of them will get involved as time goes on.

Maybe Filosof's referrals are the same way?

Forevagrey on May 25, 2007

tamashii: maybe i should start IB Canada and have about a few hundred in it. If anyone agree that countries are allowed, though i am not 100% against about 90%, I will start that clan.

aaroncampbell on May 25, 2007

I Like Corn (with 2 people) is leading the points per person section!

memodude on May 25, 2007

shouldn't stuff that don't count be listed at the top of the points/person table, at +∞ points/person? :p

Forevagrey on May 25, 2007

no, zero.

memodude on May 25, 2007

@forevagray: but 0 / 0 isn't 0, it's NaN or positive infinity depending on your perspective, no?

aaroncampbell on May 25, 2007

Well, 0 divided by anything is 0, and they have 0 points. Also, you can't divide by 0.

heinzelman on May 26, 2007

Go I Like Corn!!

Forevagrey on May 26, 2007

0/0 is not 0, true. Because with zero as the denominator is an indivisible number. But it is not infinity either. It has a term, i forgot what it is. (I will let the math genius tell us the term.)

However theoretically, if 0/anything (except 0) is 0. Then limit approaching 0+ is 0, and limit approaching 0- is 0. Therefore we can assume and take assumption 0/0 = 0. (No if you do not understands limits: take CALCULUS!)

Lastly: Join IB Canada Today! Because we can do math. (Not that any other nations can't)

jconcilio on May 26, 2007

OK, I am interested in joining (mostly as a way to meet more people) - BUT. If I figure this right, the fact that I'm new and have a whopping 90 points is going to make me a big, huge detraction from a group's standings, right? Pulling the average down, I mean?

If anyone's clan doesn't care about this, let me know. I'm partial to IB Canada now, even though I'm not Canadian, just cuz they like calculus. (Math major.)

bcarneiro on May 26, 2007

I'm more than happy to have you in The Pirates! We don't care about points! Welcome aboard.

anti on May 26, 2007

jconcilio, the pirates are the group for you! Not only are we more interested in plundering than counting points, but once you adopt our strategies you will have points to spare!

Forevagrey on May 26, 2007

jconcilio: lol... i was just kidding around with that joke. however the statement i made about 0/0=0 is true.

IB Canada does not care really about anything. Current goals is to beat the IB Czechs (Considering they are the only other nation guild).

Yeah, Pirates don't care about points, we several members having a lot to compensate this. But we care about how many people we have. Just outnumber the ninjas is fine for us.

Lastly: Join IB Canada Today! Because Canadians are the best Peace keepers in the World! (Cus we invented it for the UN)

BlackBart on May 31, 2007

Mmmm.. Nicely mid table. Not a bad start

daveamun on May 31, 2007

Looks like we now have the Go Sens! Clan to add to the list! Thanks to whoever started that one :-}

daveamun on May 31, 2007

Okay, 42 people have stated to the world their preference for overhand loading of toilet paper, 10 more are publicly underhanded in their approach and one other IB'er is an anarchic TP Vertical.

Yet, only 44 have taken the IB Anonymous pledge.

I think that some of us are in serious denial about their IB addiction - insert sheepish grin here ;-}

lparziale on May 31, 2007

@daveamun - denial is PART of the IB Anon profile... *insert nervous laugh here*

So WELCOME to our group - public announcements are NOT required!!

Tachi on Jun 02, 2007

How do you join Shinobi?

aaroncampbell on Jun 02, 2007

You put "IB Shinobi Clan" in one of the headings on your profile. It explains a little in the last paragraph of the original post.

maldenjen on Jun 03, 2007

There is another group: Yarnaholics, for people who make stuff in real life, like quilts, scarves, sweaters etc.

Forevagrey on Jun 03, 2007

Pirates are announcing that we have recruited our 60th member today!

Forevagrey on Jun 03, 2007

and the 61st member too.

aaroncampbell on Jun 04, 2007

Yarnaholics added.

Steax on Jun 05, 2007

Lets create the Bolder group! People who start open-ended bold tags in blogs and never close them!

.... Just kidding.

tommythewolfboy on Jun 13, 2007

Don't forget the ♥ clan ... peace and forum harmony (man) ;)

Forevagrey on Jun 13, 2007

Join the pirates, we are still #1 in terms of members, even if we are beating ninjas by 1.

robbyrice on Jun 14, 2007

Can you add IB Français?

aaroncampbell on Jun 14, 2007

I added ♥ and IB Français

Jen on Jun 15, 2007

Wow Ifindkarma and I used to be the only members of that. xD Neat how it has caught on and grown a little without either of us promoting it.

aaroncampbell on Jun 25, 2007

Sorry, all the iconbuffet stuff is back up. The new address to my personal blog is http://aaron.xavisys.com but the old addresses should forward fine, passing a 301 redirect. The Icon Buffet stuff is set up as 3 pages on my personal blog, with links on the left.

JBVisions on Jun 25, 2007

You're missing IB Geek Girls

aaroncampbell on Jun 26, 2007

IB Geek Girls added

aaroncampbell on Jun 26, 2007

I added IB API, because we need an IconBuffet API. It would probably help me keep from Losing Interest

lparziale on Jul 09, 2007

Hmmm... looks like IB Anonymous has HALF the number of members but MORE points than the pirates.... very fitting I think since we are the addicted!!

If you have an icon addiction, please join our group. We have monthly meetings with prizes only available to our members!!

IB Anonymous in your profile gets you in!!

debbye on Jul 11, 2007

we've got two more that aren't in the current roster:

Thirtysomething
FiftySomething

aaroncampbell on Jul 11, 2007

The roster is getting BIG...too long to really look at. What do you guys think? Should I just keep adding as requested? Should we limit it to some number? I'm up for whatever, just let me know what you want.

dustybunny on Jul 11, 2007

IB Monks should be added to the list as well.

Not sure how to limit it. It's good to have all the Guilds on a list for people to see. Maybe just use a link to your website for the full list.

gswd on Jul 11, 2007

Maybe just post the top 5 groups here, and keep the full roster off the IB Blog, but of course have a link to the full roster site.

debbye on Jul 12, 2007

IB Geek Girl Fanboy now has 6 members!

Jahnoth Vip-micro on Jul 12, 2007

Knights of IB needs to be added.

debbye on Jul 13, 2007

Stuff That Don't Count has it's appropriate 0 members & 0 points between them!

widged on Jul 15, 2007

IB Belgium added, counting 4 members.

Steax on Jul 30, 2007

IB Webdesigner needs to be added. IB Indonesia should follow, after I round up my other friends (so as not to get embarrassed =P )

Grusella on Aug 17, 2007

This info is outdated

whoisgregg on Nov 05, 2007

Man I hope this is enough closing bold tags. ;)

aaroncampbell on Nov 05, 2007

I think it was overkill...not to mention, the only unclosed bold tag I see was closed by Tamashii nearly 5 1/2 months ago.

jsfreire on Nov 06, 2007

You should add our portuguese speakers clan IB Português.

aaroncampbell on Nov 06, 2007

MaskedJedi on Nov 15, 2007

nickpixel Vip-micro on Nov 15, 2007

Don't forget about IB Ron Paul. It was started 9 days ago and has 9 people with 37,540 points between them. It's only going to get bigger. ;)

Granf on Nov 15, 2007

Add mathematicians. 12 memebers :)

debbye on Nov 15, 2007

IB 10K Club @607,610 points & 32 folks!

aaroncampbell on Nov 26, 2007

I added IB 10k Club

aaroncampbell on Nov 26, 2007

Added the others as well.

beansetc on Nov 26, 2007

Does joining any of these groups do anything? Do you get something extra on the site or does it count towards badges or something?

tamashii on Nov 26, 2007

Ultimately, they serve absolutely no purpose other than saying you like that "thing" to which you joined.

i think — starting in the new year — i might drop all the "clubs" i have added (exception being IB Shinobi Clan, as i started that one).

Phate on Nov 26, 2007

What about IB Penguins? 34 people, 328390 Points.

And maybe... IB Pirate Penguin with 8 People and 62470 Points.

supertux on Dec 05, 2007

I second that. Proud to be a penguin! :D

debbye on Dec 05, 2007

cartuning on Dec 16, 2007

FYI IB 10k Club is not intended to rule the clan stats, only to bring everybody over 10k together ;)
Thanks for all who added it so far!

thedudedean on Dec 16, 2007

I can't believe there is a TP Overhand clan.

aaroncampbell on Dec 19, 2007

@cartuning: Well, it doesn't really "rule the clan stats" since it's in second overall...

@thedudedean: As for TP Overhand Clan, there is also a TP Underhand Clan. A while back there was actually an underhand vs overhand debate ;)

bdelisio on Dec 21, 2007

Please add the IB Heaven Guild to this list. 24 people are interested in IB Heaven (448,060 points between them. Thanks!

terremom Vip-micro on Dec 22, 2007
