How I like to operate....

I'm posting this blog as a reference to my friends. It explains how I like to trade sets and help my friends out.

____________________________________________________________

Each month a few days prior to my token refill date I start picking out icons I need for that month. Then I'll browse my friends list to find friends with the lowest points that have what I'd like. Next I'll whisper in their box requesting a set. I only request one set from each friend to spread the love among more people.

I only wait 3 days for a response. The anticipation of getting a set makes me impatient, sorry. Unfortunately most people with low points don't check in on IB as often, so you might miss out. No worries though, you might get another request next month plus I have other ways to help you out.

If I don't get a response in 3 days I'll ask the next friend with the lowest points and continue up my friend's list until I've gotten the set. The best way if you don't check IB often is to have the email option checked for recieving an email alert when you have a whisper in your box. Since most people check their email every day you'll have better luck scoring the request.

More chances for my friends to earn points:

I'm getting low on stamps and often am at zero waiting for stamps to get returned. So when a friend makes a request for a set from me and I'm out of stamps I'll check my friends list again.

The 3 friends with the lowest points who have the requested set will be sent a whisper by me asking them to fufill the request for me.

I then email the friend who made the request letting them know I'm out of stamps, but hope they'll accept the set from another friend of mine.

That way everyone wins, the requester doesn't have to wait for me to get stamps back. (I know I'm impatient so I'd appreciate something like that!) And my other friends get to add a little towards their points & badges.

Also if I see a request blogged when I'm online asking for sets from IB members with low points I'll sometimes contact a few friends to see if they can do the job.

____________________________________________________________

So if you're a friend of mine and you want to earn points and badges, I'll be looking out for you and trying to help when I can.

If I haven't made a request from you in a while, I'm sorry, I tend to pick items I need for upcoming projects or ones I really really love and want to collect. You might not have any of those! But no worries, a lot of people don't check IB often and I usually run up the list contacting an average of 3-4 people for each set.

In return, I hope my friends come to me with requests, as I too am trying to earn points and badges =)

I work pretty much the same way. Perhaps this will serve as a big hint to those with low points who complain they can't find anyone to trade with. Logging in once or twice a month is going to lose you trades. Few people are going to wait 7 days or more for a set to be delivered.

I do that sort of thing as well. It is hard to wait several days after you send a request and not get a reply. I like your three day policy :)

The chefs make it difficult though when you have a plan for your tokens then they release an awesome new set right after you've spent them ;)

that's pretty much how i operate too, except that i also usually give priority to people with whom i have a lot of interaction, and people who have accepted sets from me (because i like to return the favor). makes it sometimes rather complicated to get my list in order trying to reconcile all my criteria !! especially with only 10 tokens per month... and they are usually gone in one day...

JSun : i agree with you about the spanner in the works when a chef releases a new set you really want just when you've spent your tokens... arg ! it's even harder when they release a new set just *before* you've spent your tokens, but have finally (after days of complicated cross-checking and list-making) figured out who you will ask for what ! and then you have to start all over !!!

That's why I'd love to be able to put a little 30-40 character note by each friend. It will remind me if I owe them a favor or if we have something in common. Then it would be easier for me to incorporate that in to my trades.

I get too excited waiting for new sets, so 3 days is max. I'm like a kid at Christmas checking IB every 5 min. too see if I have the new set. And to spend all your tokens and then have a brand new set come out that you just have to have is pure torture!

a note next to friends' names would be very useful. i have a list on my page to keep track. it helps a little.
