What Laptop/Desktop Best for Ruby on Rails?

What laptop or desktop is best for RoR development?
Although I can write Rails from scratch on Windows without major problems, I am having a heck of a time working with pre-written RoR apps on Windows. I am almost ready to (-gasp!-) spend money! Could you give me your recommendations?

Thanks very much!

And I would (personally) recommend following Dan Benjamin's Building Ruby, Rails, Subversion, Mongrel, and MySQL on Mac OS X tutorial to install Rails.

Thanks for the great advice. Those macs are pricey.

They offer student discounts (only about 10%) and there are corporate discounts (again around 10%) for some companies. It's worth checking out.

I took a $25 class at my local community college to get a new mac and adobe suite at the student discounts saving me hundreds.

a2 that is a great idea. I could use a Ruby or a art course, either one. All my work has been done on Macromedia FreeHand and Fireworks in the past.
Thanks so much everyone!

The Macs are expensive inly becase all of the stuff you'd put into a PC is already included in a Mac--there's no option. Google around for Mac vs. PC pricing and you'll see a couple of (unscientific, but reproducable) articles on how, feature for feature, the MacBooks and MacBook Pros are actually cheaper.

And then once you get that Mac, shell out the cash for TextMate. :)

Well, they are pricey. But, I don't wanna miss my MacBook Pro ;D Since I have one - beside my PC - I can separate Design Software from my audio stuff and everything works just fine!

And, of course, you can run Windows on Macs now. If you don't like OSX, you've got a pretty fancy Windows machine. :)

Mac minis are not too expensive.

I like Macs, they are beautiful, and well worth the money. I wouldn't mess them up with Windows! I promise!

I use a dirt cheap Acer with Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon, really really easy set up.
