Oh you tune-uppers. What have you done?!
We will forgive you this spammage if you send each and every user here the latest full version of tune-up utilities.

I guess it is true that spammers have no friends.
Steax on Jul 29, 2007
First case of true spam so far. Hahahahahaha.

Battle stations! Battle stations! Spammers on the horizon.
Steax on Jul 29, 2007
I bet those guys at Tune Up will get a real taste of our community, reading this blog. Hahahahahaha.
*Artillery! AIM! FIRE!*

oh, if only my ninja skills extended past IB. i would so ninja-hack their website...
wa-cha! no more spam from you, TeamTuneUp!!
:)
iqon on Jul 29, 2007
Aye, the Pirates, Ninjas, Knights, and other clans will be uniting to repel the spammers.
Me monkey says it be a bad business plan to get the IB community riled up.

I get the feeling, even without the divine chefs watching from behind, the various clans of IB are powerful enough to repel most forms of attacks on our home.

There have been numerous posts in the blogs here from people thinking their Icons are good enough for Icon Buffet. Why not enter the contest and if your work is as good as you say it is you could win $2,000 or more. For those I say, treat this not as Spam but as an opportunity to prove what you can do.

This post is within the realm of icons and is not quite spam, however its a harbinger. Consider it a shot across the bow. The spammers are on the horizon.
The contest itself is a great deal if you want to design icons for free. Me monkey read through the rules and found this right up front:
--------------------------------
By participating in this contest you hereby grant TuneUp, on condition that your file is awarded a cash or non-cash prize, the following rights:
You grant TuneUp the worldwide and perpetual license to use, distribute and copy all files submitted to TuneUp in connection with this contest. Accordingly, TuneUp shall be entitled, whether by itself or through third parties, to integrate these files into a software along with documentation and to modify and exploit them for this purpose.
--------------------------------
Now me monkey is not a lawyer (but he plays one on the web cam). Obviously they be needin' the rights from the winner. But what about the rest of the entries? If they give a non-cash prize (a sticker or stick of gum?) they have full use of your icons.
Not a bad plan if you wanted to start a site selling icons...
Now me monkey is not sayin' that be thar intention, but they could if they wanted to.

mmm at least 20 icons in 4 format for small to as big as 256x256
As long as they give you a price they have the right to use it anywhere they want. Only one gets a nice price the other decent or just for the trouble 2000 / 1000 / 500
then there are 47 others that get a software package of the price of 39.95 . So just by giving you a license they have full rights to do with all your icons as they please
I am not saying this is bad business but based on this i wouldn't enter. If there were only 3 prizes the cash ones I maybe would participate if I had the time ( and could design icons ) - but that is not part of my design skills ;)
also this notice
"Redesign at least these listed icons.
Feel free to include much more icons. The more complete
your package is, the bigger your chances to win are."
I thought it was a design contest not a my package is bigger but crappier than yours
Mm that would make
50 x 20 = 1000 icons ( in 4 different sizes )for $3500
thats $3.50 per icon ( 4 different sizes that is ) ( I am not counting price per license as its not so that everyone who enters this contest would also buy the software.
they also might want to read
http://www.no-spec.com/articles/design-contests/
just my observations

no-spec should be required reading for all freelance designers (and clients, but that's surely just a dream).

There at least seems to be a human behind this one, but I'm going to go ahead and shut it down as spam.
