Blinksale: Easy, painless, online invoicing for small businesses

A little category cleanup please

I'm probably being too picky, or some other fussy sounding word, but here goes. We're getting a lot of cross talk in blogs here, particularly in the Swap Meet. We've got guild memberships, guild lists, foreign language posts that I have to assume aren't about trading since they don't have set names in them, etc. Just a simple request, do you think that the authors could set the topic to Blab, or something more appropriate. Or, you could ignore me, point and laugh, etc. :D

I'm with you. If the categories are there, let's please use them. The default is Swap Meet and so people probably don't even realize, tho...

That's my thought (as far as default), and once it's in a category I'm not sure that people realize that you can edit and switch category on mis-placed posts.

I guess I didn't even realize that!

Should swap meet be the default? Would Blab be better?

Trading games - I think they would go in swap meet, but if it's not an immediate thing, does it not belong there anymore?

I would think that Blab might be a better default, it would seem to be the least impacted by incorrect postings. Trading games still seem to fit in Swap Meet, since it does involve swapping. The guild ones just keep popping to the top.

Now I'm trying to decide if it would be impolite/pushy/overly compulsive if I posted a small link back to this thread in off-topic blogs. Maybe I'll wait a while before I get that silly about all this.

@Statification: since it wouldn't relate to the blog topic, it might be better to post to the authors' pages individually - that also means you'd have the option to whisper.

If the category was displayed maybe that would make people more conscious of it. I think the only way to tell which category something is in, is if you are viewing that category.

A label could also be a link to view 'more in this category' instead of having to click on forums tab and then the category each time. I'd actually like the categories as a sub menu of links on any forum page, so I guess I should take that over to tamashii's features requests.

I think that "Blab" should be the default, but fwiw, I don't notice whether a post is on-topic or not because I don't use the category tabs. I find this entire pseudo-forum pretty awful from a usability standpoint (sorry, IB Chefs), so for now I just use the Everything tab and deal with it. I like watching as new site features appear (whisper is *totally* awesome), but hope that the Chefs pencil in some time to add some of the forum-specific features we've requested that will make reading posts easier.
