Seriously... why is this simple aspect of the site such a problem?
There is a badge present. The variables for receiving the badge are present. Where's the code? Do they seriously not write the code for these badges until a couple days after the "win variables" are met?! I mean, someone receiving all 10 Modena sets a month from now will automatically get the badge, how is it, then, that the code that makes THAT happen not implemented PRIOR to releasing the set that would garner it?
The instant they create a Family Badge (or any badge for that matter), the code to check to see if it should be awarded should be implemented. This is pretty basic stuff here. It's not even like they should have to reinvent new code for each individual badge.
No, you won't need to write new code, but you'd want the code to check only specific families for badges, otherwise you might end up in a situation where the code is awarding badges for families that don't have a badge yet. At the very least, the lookup tables that list which badges are associated with which families need updating.
But yes, I agree that when you have the badge ready, you may as well update the code. This may be a case of separation of duties - you've already prepared the badge, and it's my job to update the lookup tables, but I'm still busy with the latest Packrat feature and just haven't gotten to it yet.
there are a few parts of this site that could have been coded to happen automatically (family badges, updating the rss feed), but that doesn’t seem to be the way it was done. maybe if it had been, there would be more time for the chefs to design icon sets instead of having to manually release family badges...unless of course they want to make us wait.
Technically any system you can think of for implementing achievements of some kind has to be "manual" at some point in the system -- because the criteria for each achievement is unique.
Quite a number of the achievements were manually entered up front early in the life of the site. The problem is that the site keeps outgrowing the original achievements, so we keep adding new ones in an ad hoc fashion.
At the same time, we all wear multiple hats here and can't get to everything immediately. :)
@darkelf2099 - I know exactly what you mean! My set-collecting schedule has been totally thrown off by the Modena badge. Modena has more bronzes, though, so that badge is a bit easier than the Tower Grove to acquire. :D
@miranoriel-Yep thats exactly what i was thinking but ive already picked up 3 tower groves so now i guess i just have to juggle both of them and hopefully i can get 2 badges in june:)

It's possible that the logic that is checking for badges to award hasn't been updated to account for the new badge yet.

I would presume that there is code for each badge, because all of the badges have different criteria to earn them.
Psy2k on May 08, 2008
@soprano: yes but family badges have almost the same criteria...
soprano on May 08, 2008
@Psy2k: I know they are similar, but it still needs to be done.
