[Offtopic] California
I hope I'm allowed to make an offtopic blog... But as I noticed quite a few of IB's members live in California, and I have a question regarding the Golden State, I thought "why not ask on IB?". So there we go !
In July (2007) I will be travelling to the USA, to California in particular. As my father works in LA, I will spend some time with him, but I also want to travel on my own (my friends still have exams at that time, so I'm forced to travel alone) and to explore the nature. Somewhere in 2005 I've been to California before (but only for a couple of days), and apart from LA had the chance to visit magnificent Joshua Tree NP and the beautiful Anza Borrego Desert.
This time I'd like to go up north, to Yosemite, Mojave National Preserve and all smaller parks and forests in between, travelling with a rental car and a tent.
Now, personally I'm also very interested in geology and the "forces of nature". Having visited Mt. St. Helens in WA in the spring of 2006, I was thinking to visit Lassen Volcanic NP this time aswell. Now, starting from Yosemite NP, this "detour" would add about 350 miles (one way) to my total trip distance. Do you think it's worth it? Should I focus on other locations? If I make the trip to Lassen Volcanic, are there things I definitely should go to (along the route)? Any other landmarks in California I should see?
Your assistance is very much appreciated :)
