(closed) @10160 now! Thank you all!
I have some stamps and I would like to send sets out to try for 10,000 points!
Two deliveries of Amsterdam High seas will put me over 10,000. One AHS delivery and a few others would do nicely too! Any takers?
Is anyone willing to help me reach that goal?
(other ib'ers shouldn't fill these requests please, so that I will be able to earn the points for the delivery. Thanks for your patience!)

KatieK on May 08, 2007
D'oh! I thought you wanted me to send you AHS. ;)
Jen on May 08, 2007
Lol, I guess I should edit the title then. :) Sorry about that!

SpamDog on May 08, 2007
Anything you want now MrDee?? to spend your tokens on tomorrow..??
MrDee on May 08, 2007
I am too cheap for VIP. Tomorrow I get 10 tokens. for 10 tokens I can get a diamond delivery and a new badge. I would also like Jen to send it to me in recognition of hey active participation on this site.
But thanks for asking.
lparziale on May 08, 2007
Mr Dee - BRAVO for selecting a delivery person and sticking to your guns!! I have also done the same and it pays in the end.
jugglars on May 08, 2007
Hi Jen, I'd love to get AHS. Thanks in advance for sending it.

Mata, I've sent a set to you as well. Thanks for offering to help me out!
dyar on May 08, 2007
Jen I think it's wonderful that you've gotten to 8650 Points without being a VIP (clappy hands). Good luck in your quest for 10k.
gemtiger on May 09, 2007
I'll take one too, please! :)
Jen on May 09, 2007
Sent your way Gemmy!
@Dyer - Thanks for the encouragement! It wouldn't be possible without all the great folks here in this thread. :)
nihilistpancake on May 10, 2007
Hi there :) I haven't really traded so I don't understand yet how the system works -- do I just request a set from you so you can get points?
Hoshichan on May 10, 2007
np: that's right. You may want to click on Jen's name and ask in her box, directly. She'll send you whatever you wish. :)
nihilistpancake on May 10, 2007
Thank you hoshi, I will try that
Jen on May 11, 2007
Set sent your way nihilist! Thanks for the request!
9330 points and counting up!
Jen on May 11, 2007
Big thanks to bjendrick for helping me hit 9600!
bjendrick on May 11, 2007
Why thank you for the kudos, and thank you for the sets!
dyar on May 11, 2007
log out and back in and you will be over 11k
Jen on May 11, 2007
Yep, over 11k now. :)
KatieK on May 11, 2007
Wow! That's some major pointage. And she did it without even being a VIP. You sure blew the roof off the 10K. Congrats!
Jen on May 11, 2007
Thanks Katie! The goal was reached because of all the fine folks here at iconbuffet. :)

Out of curiosity, why does everyone think breaking (or even getting close to) 10k is faciliitated by having VIP status?
VIPs don't get more stamps than non-VIPs. But recruiting does. Jen has the National News badge – that’s at least 25 referrals, which is 375 extra stamps and 1250 points. She may have more than 25 referrals. She also has the AHS set. 250 points a pop from every successful delivery.
I am impressed simply because she reached 10,000. I am and will be impressed by anyone reaching a 5-digit score. I am even impressed by anyone reaching the 5k mark. To add the non-VIP is making light of those that break 10k and have VIP status.

Well not exactly. First she had to spend a whole months worth of Tokens to get AHS, she didn't get it for Free. If she was VIP she would have the means to get the 10 Sets she is missing (another 50 Stamps) and wouldn't have to turn down orders because she didn't have the Sets.
I think reaching 10k without being VIP is really impressive. It's mostly in the referrals, as each are worth 200 Points, but it takes quite a bit of Stamp and Token management to pull it off.
And, I'm not putting anyone down who got to 10k by being VIP. Each one has at least 25 referrals. If I spent all my Stamps and Tokens today, I would be less than 8k.

That’s the rub right there. I don’t care if you have all the sets, unless you manage your deliveries and sets appropriately, you simply won’t build up your score. MobiTec didn’t even have all the sets when he reached 10k. I believe he was missing some 15 sets at the time. I had all of them, but I didn’t have his referral numbers, meaning I didn’t have his stamp totals. justG has all 81 available sets, is at 6k+ and is VIP. By the rationale around here, she should have hit 10k before Jen simply by virtue of being VIP with all the sets.
Just because VIPs have access to the available stamps “sooner” does not inherently mean they will have an easier time building their score. Jen had the stamps and made wise set “purchases” with her tokens. She also has great delivery skills. She may have had to turn down some requests, but she obviously made up for it with others (good salesmanship can net you 1k on only 4 deliveries).
I want to be clear that Jen deserves praise. Anyone does for reaching that kind of goal. I just have a problem with those making statements that would imply it is ever so easy as a VIP.
gswd on May 11, 2007
I think that both of you have made very good points in this discussion. But tamashii is correct that VIP does not get you there, nor is it even an asset to getting there really.
I had all of the sets when the new version of IB was launched. Did I need to go VIP? No, not at that time, but I did anyway (or at least within a couple of days) because I believed that the Chefs deserved something for the hard work that they have put in, even when there was not a paid option. That is why I have also purchased stock sets from them. Some full price, some on sale. They have a quality product that I like, and have been able to use.
Even though I am active here on the site, I do not get people that drop by my Box and request sets. I have a habit of sending sets to people that are friended, and have received words of appreciation for that. I have also been told that they refused a set because they promised to get it from someone else. I have also lost out on "contests" to deliver sets because I was a VIP when AHS came out, and someone else wasn't (even tho they are VIP now). Ya, know, no hard feelings, but stop playing the 'I was just like you back then' card.
I also do not have the online fan base, or friend group, that allows me to attract a lot of referrals. My websites don't appear to get much traffic (according to log files) so it does me no good to put up an IB referral link there.
The points that I have (~3500) have all come from set delivery since the site was launched (yes I did have more than 0 at the beginning).
Being VIP does not make IB Life any easier. It can actually hurt because there appears to be a stigma attached to it (unless of course you went a full month+ before upgrading - then you are 'just plain folks').
Ok. Enough ranting from me. Let's get back to Icon Sharing.
aaroncampbell on May 11, 2007
I think there are 2 ways to look at this. If you are JUST starting out, becoming VIP would help, because you can get more sets. Each additional set is 5 stamps. However, if you started early in the game (had a lot of sets when the site got updated, and kept at it), you might NOT be VIP, but still have nearly all (or all) the sets. If that's true, VIP won't make much difference.
Either way, inviting people is where it's at. 150 points per person PLUS 15 stamps (150 points...maybe more). Also, two of the three referral badges are worth points too (100 and 300).

You have to be VIP, Im 18 sets behind.. At start of month I were 14. They create new sets too fast, lol
dyar on May 11, 2007
@gswd - Sounds like a personal attack and a little sour grapes because Marcelo chose me over you for the AHS set.
VIP won't get you to 10k by itself, with the current amount of releases. The whole key to getting there is Referrals. As I said earlier the three people who have made it (that I know of) all have at least 25 Referrals. Those have a claimed point value of 5,000. The quickest way is to combine a lot of referrals and Diamond deliveries. I did some calculations and figured with no Diamond deliveries (and holding all the current Sets) it would take 25 referrals to get to 10k, with 6 Diamond Deliveries it would take 20 Referrals and with 18 Diamond Deliveries it would take 11 Referrals.
So referrals is what makes the difference. Gotta have them if you want to make the leaderboard.
aaroncampbell on May 11, 2007
And, you *COULD* make it to 10K if you make ONLY diamond deliveries, and have all sets:
81*5 = 405 stamps, meaning you can make 40 diamond deliveries
40*250 = 10,000 points
If anyone makes it THAT way, I'd be impressed. Actually, you'd get a few boosts along the way. a bonus 500pts when you hit 5000, and you'd get 200pts each for having 20 silver and gold sets, and 100pts for having 10 manhatten sets. Even so, you'd need to make 36 diamond deliveries.
gswd on May 11, 2007
@dyar - no "attack" intended, and Marcelo made his choice based on which pitch he responded to. He liked your pitch better than mine. You are a better salesman than I am. I'm just sick of being just above pond scum because I was an early adopter of VIP.
lparziale on May 11, 2007
WOW - what ever happened to the main goal of IB, to trade icons for USE on our websites! Get some free stuff and when clients have a need, support IB by buying the other sets!!
Jen on May 11, 2007
You guys, this thread was supposed to end in celebration.. :(
tamashii on May 12, 2007
@Jen: You work hard and play well. It shows.
Congrats on breaking the awesome 5-digit barrier. Well deserved!
