Blinksale: Easy, painless, online invoicing for small businesses

To all snowed under sufferers

I've figured out why you still get sets dropped on you even though you have I HAVE NO TOKENS plastered all over your page.

People are opening up their friends list and using the present link to send out. The present link never takes them to your page, it just opens a send box.

To those with dire warnings about hanging onto sets..... they never see those either, or at least, not until it's too late.

Way back I used this feature too and lost a few stamps that way :(

jameshilton Vip-micro on Jul 10, 2007

i aggree, sometimes i used to blanket esnd sets to the first 5 of so friends in the list to try and build up my points. sorry everyone. ;)

Atryx on Jul 10, 2007

But I think there are still people that ignore something like this written in your page. I'm looking for some way of makeing " NO tokens " sign bigger :)) ! But I think the avatar ideea is the best !

JBVisions on Jul 10, 2007

Well I'm just glad I worked it out. I was beginning to think an awful lot of people needed to get their eyes tested. :o)

JBVisions on Jul 10, 2007

Atryx, avatar has to be the way to go but it needs to be clear. New people aren't going to understand the small round thing with a cross though it.

iqon on Jul 10, 2007

I gave up and added this warning to my profile:
Do not send sets unless I request them
   - I hold stamps hostage

Although I'd be happy to reject the set if some ask for the stamps back.

ARRRR, me be treating deliveries like me teeth — ignore'em long enough and they go away.

JBVisions on Jul 10, 2007

But that's the point iqon, they don't see your warning.

JSun on Jul 10, 2007

It's good to know people may not be as blind as you first assume. Thanks for the tip :)

jameshilton Vip-micro on Jul 10, 2007

dont see the problem myself, it takes 2 seconds to reject the sets!?

debbye on Jul 10, 2007

i hate to do this. i am one of those people who does not want to hurt anyone's feelings, even at the expense of my own feelings some times [i know that is dumb!]… BUT i just received 15 sets from someone, with not a word or whisper, with a grand total of 61 stamps tied up!

c'mon … really … did i tick someone off? 15 sets?

JBVisions on Jul 10, 2007

Depends how many have been sent. There are some who dump every set they have on you in one swell foop and when you reject them, they send them straight back again.

gswd on Jul 10, 2007

61 stamps, that means it would take 61 tokens to accept them all. Who has 61 tokens? Nobody. Even if you max out the bonus tokens that only 50 (right?).

JBVisions on Jul 10, 2007

OK, I posted that without seeing debbye's post. See what I mean!

jmnovak on Jul 10, 2007

I think the logic is, if they send everything, the odds of something you want being in there is higher. They miss the flip side, which is if you get a bunch of stuff you don't want, you are more likely to reject it all on principle...

JBVisions on Jul 10, 2007

They also miss the possibility that someone like Debbye with 76 sets and a load of stamps might just take their revenge and send the lot in reply.

louiemctool on Jul 10, 2007

maybe the chefs could add the option to disable the "Send Delivery" button if you don't want/can't receive icons?

for instance, i have only 1 token. it would make sense that someone could send me only a Bronze or Free delivery...

debbye on Jul 10, 2007

i think when you have the majority of the sets, the ones remaining are the ones that are not on your list of "favorites." therefore, i am not falling over trying to grab these. i am more interested in the new sets & one by one [note: one, not 15] i will get the sets that i don't have. i wouldn't dream of dumping even 5 sets on someone, without specifically asked for those 5 sets. that's why i wondered if i had "ticked" off someone. [another note: "tick" was not my 1st word choice, here!]

it would take me 4 minutes just to scroll down my profile to check the Box, if i didn't have a "shortcut" that bypasses it all.

i don't have enough stamps to return the favor & it's really not in my nature for payback. [sometimes … it is enough to think about revenge}

louiemctool on Jul 10, 2007

i admit, the "spam" sending of icons aggravates me. it's rude, plain and simple. i reject all of them, then ask that person not to do it again. sometimes it works, sometimes not. i actually just "de-friended" (is that a word?) someone 'cause he's done it at least twice now.

i know, this thread sounds like one long b***h-fest, but it's things like this that kinda spoil the "happy-go-lucky" vibe that's been here since the first IB...

and that's my two cents. :)

iqon on Jul 10, 2007

@JBVisions said But that's the point iqon, they don't see your warning.

And point is I don't care, if they want to shotgun sets to a bunch of people that is the risk they take. The first few months I immediately rejected the set and posted a polite reply on the sender's site about tokens=0. Some of the people kept sending sets anyway. I finally decided if people are too lazy to check before sending, then I won't bother to reject. After all it means a week I don't have to worry about receiving THAT particular set. If someone realizes his/her mistake I'm more than willing to reject the set and send the wayward stamps home. If you are going to throw sheep over the fence into my field hoping I'll buy one, don't expect me to haul them back to your place.

JBVisions on Jul 10, 2007

Sheep!!!? Am I missing a set? ;)

louiemctool on Jul 10, 2007

must be an IconShock thing. no sheep here...yet.

:)

debbye on Jul 10, 2007

@iqon - you are always there with the "Word"

i've just decided to go "public" on Twitter [even tho i don't understand it all yet]

my new Tweet … " If you are going to throw sheep over the fence into my field hoping I'll buy one, don't expect me to haul them back to your place … iQon"

BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Sheep, Pigs, Dogs . . . think Pink!

dream #4,203: having a large grassy field on the side of well traveled highway. placing huge plywood black & white cow "cutouts" in field, some grazing, some chewing cud, some standing around, maybe a calf nursing. leaving said cows in same position for days on end. then, moving & changing number of said cutouts in a random manner so travelers on said highway are highly confused!

JBVisions on Jul 10, 2007

Sorry but somebody beat you to it many years ago

kitt Vip-micro on Jul 10, 2007

sorta, JBVisons. Those don't move. debbye wants to move them to confuse the regulars. :)

iqon on Jul 10, 2007

Avast, why would moving cows confuse the regulars? Since when do cows not move (or moo)? Well besides the slaughter house.

Now a field of cutouts, on their back like a dead cockroaches. That might get the locals attention, unless cow tipping is a big sport in the area.

tommythewolfboy on Jul 11, 2007

If they can't be bothered to look at my page, then I can't be bothered to reject the delivery ...

debbye on Jul 11, 2007

@kitt - it's the regular "drivers" that i want confused. :)

@iqon - we could have "dead cow" shirts, like i saw a "dead izod" shirt years ago - always wished i bought one!

in general - it is because of posts like this that got my attention & now i really read people's profiles. i also have more people asking if i have any tokens rather than dropping sets.

i think JBV's post Common Courtesy goes along this same line. it is all Common Courtesy & it is always easier to be less annoying. imagine how long it took to send 15 sets; all that scrolling & waiting for the "spinning thingy" to finish & then scrolling again, etc. even if you have a Mac & have the new IB Widget, it takes awhile to send 15 sets. wouldn't the "Golden Rule" apply here:

IB Golden Rule: don't dump massive amounts of icons on people because you wouldn't want someone dumping them on you!

i'd love to see the "reasoning" behind sending that many!

iqon on Jul 11, 2007

@debbye - "i'd love to see the "reasoning" behind sending that many!"

Perhaps their brain be goldfished (3-second memory)

KatieK on Jul 11, 2007

Iqon - that's what happens when one spends too much time at the Manhattan Pub. ;)

louiemctool on Jul 11, 2007

haha. debbye referred to herself in the third person...

:)

debbye on Jul 12, 2007

@louiemctool - that was a conversation between my two alternate personalities!

i'm going to establish my iCon Code of Good Conduct, which applies to the everyday sending of icon sets, not to the few days that surround Token Day!
… 1) if you send me one or two sets, accompanied by a note, i will reject the set & send a note in return explaining no tokens & don't want to tie up stamps, yada, yada.
… 2) if you send me one or two sets, without sending a note, i will reject the set & that's it.
… 3) if you send me more than one or two sets, without sending a note, i will hold onto those stamps of yours. [unless you are a newbie, and then, i'll think about it]
… 4) if you send me oodles of sets, without sending a note, maybe a thread should be created & your name listed along with others who like to spam people!

FallenAngel on Jul 12, 2007

Good idea debbye! I like that one. I also like iqon's thinking - ARRRR, me be treating deliveries like me teeth — ignore'em long enough and they go away. I also hold stamps hostage and although it's a PITA having to scroll through them all, I stand firm. Arrrr!

Someone (I shalln't yet name names here) sent me a load of unrequested and unwanted sets last week (I held the stamps hostage then). This week, yep, yet again, another load of deliveries from the same person. Again I will hold their stamps hostage until they learn their lesson and stop spamming me! As those who know me well well know, I can be a stroppy cow (mooooo!) when annoyed, and stand by my hostage taking policy.

Tommythebwolfboy summed it up perfectly...

If they can't be bothered to look at my page, then I can't be bothered to reject the delivery ...

debbye on Jul 12, 2007

EXACTLY!

treat "like" with "like" !

in the old days, even before me [ !!! ] they had the stocks that they put people in, in the town square. the humiliation of being publicly outed would certainly be a deterrent to crime.

i would hate to have to make a post like that with the spammers list, i know that however justified it is, i hate to see anyone hurt [well, almost anyone] but there has yet to be a "friendly" reason why someone would inundate you with sets.

there's always [ hehe haha gguuuffaaaw ] we [never mind! hehe later]

louiemctool on Jul 12, 2007

i feel very frightened of debbye right now...

:)

anti on Jul 12, 2007

Whisper me who they is, I got stamps!

iqon on Jul 12, 2007

Mosaic Law: an eye for an eye
Debbye Law: a like for a like
Pirate Law: an aye for an aye

Me has suggested in the past that spammers could be dealt with by holding all the stamps hostage. There be plenty of inactive noobie accounts, drop a line to the spammer this person can't decide what set they want and to send them all. Ye be repeating this every week as the stamps escape but it be fun watchin' the spammer's bewilderment as his/her hope for points is scuttled.

debbye on Jul 14, 2007

previous thread that sort of ties in with this one: Are you an "iconspammer" or a "stampblocker"? Or any?

just as people who made crank phone calls are doing it less, because of caller ID, the spammers are not anonymous. & don't have the backbone to say what or why.

if it's a joke, leave a note saying "HaHa & please reject sets." otherwise, it is a deliberate action on the part of spammer.
