I've read about half the book (got the free pdf version a week or so ago) and I can tell you that it is excellent. I had had no prior experience with Ruby on Rails before reading this book, and I can surely say that it was written for people like me. I can do some coding (all self-taught) so I was a little bit familiar with the concepts of Object Oriented Programming that are discussed, but the rest of the information was all new, but at the same time the author made the materiel interesting and fun to learn. I would highly recommend this book to anyone evenly remotely interested in the RoR language.

Thanks, JB. Don't forget to also download the Code Archive and Corrections & Typos

O yeah, it is entire book, not first 4 chapters like it says. Already got Code archive. :)

Can anybody load sitepoint right now?
Is half the internet having server problems tonight, or just the sites I'm trying to use? Plus my host's mail server; although I don't want mail right now, not being able to get it is driving me nuts. I feel like I'm in a twilight zone—IB works just fine, it's everything else that's choking. (no offense to the chefs)

awesome! thanks, JB!
JBVisions on Oct 24, 2007
Mik Sitepoint is up and running fine. SOunds like you may have an ISP problem and IB is loading from cache.

Sitepoint is working for me, too. Thanks JB for this link. I can't wait to read it. Awesome find!
JBVisions on Oct 24, 2007
You're welcome. It's very unusual for Sitepoint to do something like this, normally you only get 4 taster chapters, so I thought it was worth promoting. I have to say though that their books are usually very good. I have a number of them. Some PDF, some hard copies and one of them I have both versions.
justG on Oct 24, 2007
Have people been able to download the other two books successfully? It seems to me that Code Archive is only for those people who've already purchased the (physical) book? When I entered my e-mail address, SitePoint said it wasn't recognised and that I should enter the last work in chapter 9, and tell them from where I had purchased the book.
The link for the Corrections and Typos books results in a 404.
bdelisio on Oct 24, 2007
There is a "%3E" on the end of the link in the blog that shouldn't be there. However the link for Corrections and Typos in my post is valid and is reposted here. I just saved the entire web page to disk.
To get the Code Archive enter the word "submissions" without the quotes.

Thanks JB. It wasn't from cache, I was specifically checking things that I wouldn't have in cache, but I think my ISP was having stupidity issues based on IP addresses or something. If that much of the 'net had been down for others, it would have made the news! My mail server is still down but that's a separate ISP and I'm telling myself I'll get more work done this way. ha. Interruptions aren't nearly as bad a distraction as the waiting / not knowing feeling.
JBVisions on Oct 24, 2007
@bdelisio, I just checked and I'm not getting a %3E, nor does the code in the edit box show it. Both links take me straight to the correct page. :o∫

@justG - bit difficult for me to tell as I'm a Sitepoint member so my email is known. Didn't have any trouble downloading them though.
