CHEFS! Buffet crawling again
Guys I love this place but I'm getting really fed up with logging on every morning to find it takes 9 minutes to get a page loaded, 11 minutes or more to send a set out.
Yesterday It was late afternoon here before we could do anything sensible. Today looks like it's going to be the same. This has been a regular occurrence for a month or so now.
It's all very well you guys sorting it out when you're up and about so the US contingent rarely see too many problems but the rest of us are getting majorly peed off with it. PLEASE can you get something sorted.

No idea what's going on but this post turned up all by itself 39 minutes after I posted the original.
I've been on here for over an hour during which time I've managed to make two posts in the forum and one post on Debbye's page (possibly two, I gave up waiting for the second to appear)
This is just completely unusable.

Speaking as part of the US contingent, we're seeing plenty of problems, at least those of us who pop by in the morning. Things were pretty good yesterday afternoon (I'm guessing after a server reboot), but this is ridiculous. I think it was you who said that you can't refer anyone to the site while it's like this; I've been wanting to try a recruiting drive among a few folks I know, but no way am I going to do so while things are like this...
iqon on Jul 22, 2007
change the title to "Chefs - delete me"
This is a duplicate blog caused by server stutter. If you look at the URL it ends with a "-2"

It's just reposting posts that were made ages ago. Looks like something is looping big time.
@iQon, no I'm not going to ask them to delete it I think they need to know exactly what the problems are. This is just getting beyond a joke and the occasional message to say "we're working on it" doesn't cut it any more.
I've had emails from referrals saying that it's rubbish and they're not going to bother with it. It's all very well rebooting so that the US get great response times during their day but the rest of us, and those like yourself who are working nights, just can't do anything.
It took me another 9 minutes just to get in here to post this. I don't like moaning, I'm from and IT background, I know what the problems can be but this is just too much and we don't get any answers.
caradotcom on Jul 22, 2007
Things have definitely been slow. I was just getting around to adding an IB referral button to my blog but because it's a script link, it's slowing page load. And I'm trying to download Manhattan Floral too. Looks like there's more to it than a hardware problem?
JBVisions on Jul 22, 2007
I took the script referral out because it was killing my blog. I just added a static image with a hyperlink.
iqon on Jul 22, 2007
In my professional mainframe world this is not a slow down, its an outage. Its week like this past one that make me to not be paying for IB. I assume there is not a SLA (Service Level Agreement) in the VIP membership?
FallenAngel on Jul 22, 2007
Same here. I just use an image with my referrer link. I've posted a couple of other places recently about the benefits of IB, but while things are like this it's just not worth trying to do any more recruiting.
dyar on Jul 22, 2007
Trust me, the US Contingent is having the same problems the Europeans are. The site is virtually un-useable 90 % of the time now.
JBVisions on Jul 22, 2007
Today should have been a WHOO HOO day as I went past 20k. Somehow or other a member with a lot of stamina who took an AHS set from me last week pending his tokens arriving today, managed to log in and accept the set. Kudos to that man.
I've spent most of today trying to reject one set.
JBVisions on Jul 22, 2007
So assuming the fact that nothing has happened all day to get this place moving again means there are no chefs around, it'll probably be in this state for at least another 18-20 hours until they arrive to do something about it. I give up.

The Chefs typically aren't around on the weekends.
austingirl on Jul 22, 2007
It's 7:46 PM CDT here in Texas. The buffet was horrible earlier, but seems to be working now. Good idea on the static image with a referral link. Think I will do the same on mine.
debragail on Jul 22, 2007
It's pretty grim here in Oz (GMT+9). Took me two hours of refreshes before I got my page loaded. And it's my Payday... (my wishlist is on my page, 4 sets haven't been sent by anyone yet, hint hint...). And it really sucks that it's payday and I have to wait until 3pm local time.
debbye on Jul 22, 2007

iqon on Jul 22, 2007
So sad, like a new restaurant that becomes too popular and you can never get a table, eventually people become of waiting and now no one goes there.
rossanyl on Jul 22, 2007
I'm in Canada and I could not logged in all day. I had to wait tonight to be able to see the site! Now it is 21h00 and pretty fast again so i'm not sure it is a time zone thing...
cheiie on Jul 22, 2007
Is it possible that this has to do with the horrid weather in Texas, right now? I would assume yes, but I'm not sure exactly the locale.
whoisgregg on Jul 22, 2007
Just to reiterate, there's no special treatment for US folks... It's just as bad for us when it is bad.
I sympathize with the Chefs. They know they could lose current and potential members over this already. If they could snap their fingers and fix it I'm sure they would.
I'm pretty sure the solution at this point requires hardware upgrades and possibly splitting to multiple servers. That kind of thing doesn't often happen overnight.
elnitido52 on Jul 22, 2007
I was IconShocking all day long...couldn't login until late night.
miklb
on Jul 23, 2007
The other issue is, serving the icon buffet badge on your site causes your site to slow load. I certainly do not want to remove the badge, and might self host an image with a physical link vs using their javascript, assuming that would still give me a potential referral.
cheiie on Jul 23, 2007
mik - most of us are doing that, just hosting the jpeg with a referral link - simple & effective solution :)
cheiie on Jul 23, 2007
Has it really been as bad as it's been the last couple of days for the last month? I haven't noticed it - and yes, I'm in the US, but I'm not up at 'normal' hours.
JBVisions on Jul 23, 2007
In the UK it's been doing that a lot during our normal working day. It tends to start running OK about the time the chefs arrive for work and do whatever they do with the servers which is usually around about 3pm our time.
JBVisions on Jul 23, 2007
Gregg yes, we understand the chefs would fix it immediately if they could but I think a lot of the problem here is lack of communication. Add to that the fact that we across the pond get this all day then when the US wakes up it all starts working again (unless it's a weekend or holiday such as July 4th when it was appalling all day)
cheiie on Jul 23, 2007
I still think something's wrong - I don't know what it is - but it's abnormal for the chefs to be MIA, in general. I'm not even a twitterer (tweeter?) but their twitters are also lacking in updates. Then again, if I knew I was being stalked by IB'ers, I'd hide too!
JBVisions on Jul 23, 2007
You think maybe they're swimming? Nah. Keegan was eating Ice Cream and doing his shopping list last I heard. ;)
JBVisions on Jul 23, 2007
And just when you think it's safe to venture back in......... it's all grinding to a halt again. :(
Chefs, I have a few spare batteries in the drawer if that'd be any help?

No speed problems here.
Yesterday it was slow at 2pm. But I just turned my modem off for 10 min and that was it.
Sometimes is not IB's server fault ;)
JBVisions on Aug 02, 2007
Oh this was definitely the IB server.
It's been OK for the last week, touch wood. The problems were the first 3 weeks of July but the Chefs tell us it's now sorted.

slow downs started approx 2:00 AM Eastern (NYC) time. I've clocked over 5 minutes for a refresh and then its instant. Been very fast and very slow for the last 5 hours.
Lots of server stutter resulting in multiple post.

I'm at CET+1 (Rotterdam, NL) and around 8AM till, well now 1:20PM it still slow as...well let's just keep it at "really slow" ... bit of a shame really, specially when I've got new sets waiting to download :(
mkhall on Aug 06, 2007
I sent an invitation to a friend last night, and the first question she asked was "Wow, is it always this slow?"
eugene4jesus on Aug 06, 2007
Well, I never had a problem with slowness of IB, but today is terribly slow. No sure why.
JBVisions on Aug 06, 2007
same here mkhall. New referral came and went. Sigh.
This one is odd though. One minute it's fine and you get all excited thinking it's fixed and then it just crawls again. For a while I thought it was my ISP but I've cleared that as the cause.

I remind the story of the teacher and the student, both really lazy...
one evening they 're lying down on their beds and the teacher says: "stand up and check if outside is raining...". The student says: "a cat has come inside few moments ago and I've touched its fur... it was not wet!!!"
mmm.. mumbles the teacher: "then you can go and shut the door...:
the student says: "we 're quite poor. Nobody will dare enter this house... even misery has ran way!!! And with the windows open I feel really a cool breeze"
okkei, says the teacher: "turn off the light!!!!"
and the student: "I've done two things... now it's your turn!!!!!"
