The Big Sexy Summer IBGG Competition Rules

The IB Geek Girls (IBGG) will be running periodic Geek Girl competitions in affiliation with The Pirates. IB Geek Girl competitions are nothing whatsoever anything to do with IconBuffet, IB, Firewheel Design, the Chefs, any of their assistants or their pet office plants.

No icons were harmed in the making of this competition.

There's also a brief version of the rules. For full rules see below.

Rules of the competition

The competition will run from Monday, 23rd July 2007 and will end at 12pm midnight on Tuesday, 30th October 2007, UK BST. Entries received after this time will be disqualified.

The leader of the particular competition shall be known for the duration as the Webmaster, and will be ably assisted six (6) fellow Geek Girl Bakers (see below for further information on IBGG Bakers).

The competition is open to all members of IB of whatever clan or affiliation, however extra bonus points are on offer to members of the IB Geek Girls and the Pirates. The rules for earning extra bonus points are laid out under the section "Bonus Points".

No purchase necessary. See bottom of pack for details.

There are a total of 50 questions in the competition and a “spot the icons” picture question. Questions will be released at intervals throughout the duration of the competition as determined by the Webmaster.

Bonus points

10 bonus points will be awarded to entrants belonging to the Pirates or to the IB Geek Girls.

Bonus points from accepting token sets

Bonus points can be earned by accepting icon sets from me during the period 23rd July 2007 to 29th October 2007 inclusive. Bonus points will be awarded as follows:
- accepting a bronze set earns 3 bonus points
- accepting a silver set earns 5 bonus points
- accepting a gold set earns 10 bonus points
- accepting a diamond set earns 15 bonus points

NB: When requesting sets you must let me know that you will be entering the competition so that I can enter you on the competition spreadsheet and enter your bonus points.

A maximum of 20 bonus points may be gained in this way.

Accepting an icon set from any IB Geek Girl will also earn you 3 bonus points. When accepting an icon set from an IBGG, please notify the sender that you will be entering the competition, so that I can adjust your bonus score on the competition spreadsheet. It's important that you do this at the time of your request as bonus points cannot be added retrospectively.

A maximum of 12 bonus points may be gained in this way.

Accepting an icon set from any Pirate will also earn you 2 bonus points. When accepting an icon set from a Pirate, please notify the sender that you will be entering the IBGG competition, so that they can notify me so that I can adjust your bonus score on the competition spreadsheet. It's important that you do this at the time of your request as bonus points cannot be added retrospectively.

A maximum of 10 bonus points may be gained in this way.

IBGG Bakers and ESP month passes

Stuck on any of the questions or missing some of the icons in the “spot the icons” section of the competition?

IB has the chefs who make us lovely icons. The IB Geek Girls have Bakers, who bake code cookies (they're yummy!) As VIP membership of IB earns you extra tokens, an ESP (Extremely Special Person) month pass with the IB Geek Girls costs 5 of your shiny IB tokens should you wish to gain the maximum benefit for using the IBGG Baker scheme.

How's it work?
In return for accepting an icon set from one of the Geek Girl Bakers, you will receive the answer to one question. You may gain the answers to up to five questions in this way. The points score attached to each question is shown in brackets after the question. When accepting an icon set from an IBGG Baker, please notify the Baker that you will be entering the competition, and which question you require the answer to so that the Baker can pass along to me the details of what you need (IBGG Bakers do not know the answers to the competition questions so that they can play along too). You'll also be issued with a free Geek Girl cookie, freshly baked by the Bakers.

In the event that either the Webmaster or any of the IBGG Bakers run out of stamps to fulfil delivery requests, we reserve the right to either postpone the delivery of icon sets for up to 10 days, or to nominate another IB Geek Girl to fulfil the request.

The IBGG Bakers for this competition are:
- KatieK
- Anti
- justG
- lparziale
- Firesong
- Debbye

Anyone receiving a request for a set from someone who says something like "Please send me X – I'm entering the IBGG competition", should let me know so that I can add the receiver's bonus score on.

How to submit your entry

Entries for the competition should be made via the web form located here, and must be received by 12pm midnight on Tuesday, 30th October 2007, UK BST.

Tie-break number

In addition to your competition entries you should also submit 6 two digit numbers between 01 and 49. In the event of a tie, the tie-break numbers will be used to determine the winner of the competition.

In the UK's weekly Lotto draw, six numbers from 1 to 49 are drawn. If more than one entrant has scored the same number of points from questions, the results of the Lotto draw held on Saturday, 27th October 2007 will be used to determine the winner. For example, if the Lotto numbers drawn were 03 07 22 34 41 47, and two competition entrants, Entrant 1 and Entrant 2 entered the tie-break numbers 03 07 22 28 33 42 and 02 03 08 22 34 47 respectively, Entrant 2 would win the tie-break for correctly matching 4 numbers, as opposed to Entrant 1's 3 matches. If no tie-breaking entrants match any numbers, the sum of the Lotto numbers and the sum of the entrants' selected numbers will be used to determine the winner – i.e. if the draw numbers were 03 07 22 34 41 47 (sum=154), and Entrant 1 selected 04 11 12 19 23 26 (sum=95) and Entrant 2 selected 01 05 38 39 42 46 (sum=171), Entrant 2 would win as the sum of their selections is closer to that of the numbers drawn in the Lotto draw.

The competition ends at 12pm midnight on Tuesday, 30th October 2007, UK BST. Entries received after this time will be disqualified.

Total points available = 317 (if full advantage is taken of the bonus points scoring opportunities)

THE PRIZES
The prize for the winner(s) of the competition is points galore!

1st prize
From the first prize winner the Webmaster shall accept not one, not two, but three Gold deliveries (or a combination of bronze and silver deliveries to the same value) from the competition winner in the month of November 2007, and one Gold delivery (or the equivalent in bronze and silver deliveries) for each month after that up and including March 2008. Thereafter the Webmaster shall accept one Silver delivery each month for the next six months. Deliveries may be held over for up to 3 months in the event that the winning entrant does not currently have icon sets not already owned by the Webmaster.

2nd prize
From the 2nd place winner the Webmaster shall accept two Silver deliveries (or a combination of Bronze and Silver deliveries to the same value) from the 2nd place winner in the month of November 2007, and one Silver delivery (or the equivalent in Bronze deliveries) for each month after that up and including March 2008. Thereafter the Webmaster shall accept one Bronze delivery each month for the next six months. Deliveries may be held over for up to 3 months in the event that the winning entrant does not currently have icon sets not already owned by the Webmaster.

3rd prize
From the 3rd place winner the Webmaster shall accept one bronze delivery per month for 12 months from November 2007.

That means that the chance of at least 530 IB points are up for grabs for the winner of the competition. (not including any points thresholds or badge related bonus points that may be gained as a result of these points acquisitions)

For the 2nd place winner the chance of at least 240 IB points are up for grabs for the 2nd place winner of the competition. (not including any points thresholds or badge related bonus points that may be gained as a result of these points acquisitions)

For the 3rd place the chance of at least 120 IB points are up for grabs for the 3rd place winner of the competition. (not including any points thresholds or badge related bonus points that may be gained as a result of these points acquisitions)

....AND FINALLY

You'll find the questions thread here.

Good luck!

Hey, nice game :o) but maybe it should last a full 2 months since some of us will have 2 refill date and other just one during the game period. Just a thought...

JBVisions on Jul 23, 2007

I don't think it's complicated enough. Can't you add a few more rules? ;)

FallenAngel on Jul 23, 2007

Hmmmmm, I'll have to have a think about the maths of that one Rossanyl...

/slaps Jaybee for being cheeky ;-)

Okay then, just for Jaybee, the concise version of the rules...

- it starts now and ends on 7th September
- answer 50 questions and a "spot the icons pic"
- if you want to earn bonus points, join the IB Geek Girls and/or Pirates
- if you want to earn even more bonus points you can accept deliveries from me, any Geek Girl or Pirate
- if you want the answer to any questions you're stuck on you can get an answer by accepting a delivery from KatieK, Anti, justG, ZsaZsa, Firesong, or Debbye
- also submit 6 numbers between 01 and 49 that will be used if there's a tie
- email your answers to me by 7th September
- the prize is oodles of points

That any clearer? ;-)

rossanyl on Jul 23, 2007

and what about VIP versus non VIP ? non VIP could not accept as much as VIP :( a little more math I guess, eh? (sorry to trouble you, I really think it's great to organize all this, and the questions are fun too !)

FallenAngel on Jul 23, 2007

Ooooh! *!@&^%!$ Now you got me thinkin' again! <hehe> Um, I'll ponder it...

Got to do some work now though, so I'll get back to it later.

gswd on Jul 23, 2007

Why is there a difference in the points for accepting a set from a pirate than IBGG, but the points for membership are the same? Is there some hidden IBGG jealousies that have yet to be revealed?

FallenAngel on Jul 23, 2007

Nah, it's simply a ploy to try and get the Geek Girls' points total up if I remember rightly, but as a Pirate as well as a Geek Girl it was decided to put something in there to help out Pirates as well.

Something like that anyhow. Not sure any more as I've completely lost the plot now. ;-)

Nokiko on Jul 23, 2007

oh dont forget each geek girl should send in a picture posing with a geeky object of there choice ( sorry couldn't resist :)

FallenAngel on Jul 23, 2007

hehe!

Nokiko on Jul 23, 2007

come girls where are the hard geeky code/pattern/math questions? FallenANgel you can do better than that, I trust this is just the few starter questions ;)

debbye on Jul 23, 2007

FA - we can raise funds by having the "IBGG 1st Annual Calendar" with each month, a different geek posing with different object!! i just got my 1989 Macintosh Portable, actually two of them, we could have a picture of me trying to lift them!

Thanks Nokiko!

louiemctool on Jul 23, 2007

yozers! this thread went south quuickly!

i love it...

:)

FallenAngel on Jul 24, 2007

@Nokiko - yep, there's another 40 questions to come. There are some geeky questions in there, but the emphasis is on IB related questions, otherwise it would limit it too much to only geeky types. There's also going to be a music round as well to add a bit of variety.

@rossanyl - yep, I think moving the end date back would be a good idea. I need to work out some dates and stuff though. I'm kinda tied up with offline stuff today though so I'll take another look at that tonight.

FallenAngel on Jul 24, 2007

@Debbye - kinda like the 'calendar girls' thing? hehe I can see it now...strategically placed CD-ROM disks...

JBVisions on Jul 24, 2007

Here's a hint... the answer to all music questions will be - Faithless

;)

JBVisions on Jul 24, 2007

@debbye - I wasn't aware we were trying to scare the heck out of everyone.

FallenAngel on Jul 24, 2007

Here's a hint... the answer to all music questions will be - Faithless

LOL! Well I did try, but I couldn't think of any Faithless songs that have any sort of link with IB, unless you rename "God is DJ" to "God is a Chef" hehe

JBVisions on Jul 24, 2007

You will be delighted to know that Harv's company have announced this year's Christmas Party will be themed - Pirates of the Caribbean.

Hmmmm 500 people, all drunk, if I take my laptop..... 500 times Amsterdam High Seas = ......

five times two, carry the one, five times f....

oodles of points! :)

rossanyl on Jul 24, 2007

thanks for revising the math! I'm sure you already guess that i'm non-vip and that i would have only one refill during the game... and would love to think that I have at least a chance to win :o) Like Spock says: "I like to know there is possibility" (is this consider geeky?)

louiemctool on Jul 24, 2007

@FallenAngel: wow, that's harsh...

:)

FallenAngel on Jul 25, 2007

Harsh? Huh? Have I missed something? (entirely possible as I'm not fully awake yet) ;-)

FallenAngel on Jul 25, 2007

Okay, finish date revised to 23rd Sept. I had put in a limit to how many bonus points can be gained from accepting sets to prevent VIPs getting a disproporionate number of bonus points, but hadn't taken into account the 1 or 2 refills thing. Well spotted.

@louiemctool - aw! what cute little feet! ;-)

rossanyl on Aug 07, 2007

*just to pop at the top of the forum*
Some people still don't know about this hot-hot contest!

agataraczynska on Aug 07, 2007

...i still dont understand one detail (maybe cause of my bad english...) it works with just putting all the answers and accepting with the "submit" button or i have to send you something via mail or to let you know about this or what? sorry, it seems really complicated :) maybe you could make the spanish version of the roules?

FallenAngel on Aug 07, 2007

Ignore the bit about emailing - that was written before we had the form - I just forgot to amend the rules. Just fill in the form.

FallenAngel on Aug 07, 2007

I've now amended the rules above with the location of the web form

renbot on Aug 08, 2007

So, if we filled out the form, is that all we have to do? Is there a "spot the icon" part too, or is that not up yet?

Also, do we have to let you know that we're members of The Pirates or IBGG? Or will you look that information up when you're tallying points?

FallenAngel on Aug 08, 2007

Yep, that's all you have to do. The next bit up's the music round and a few more questions - they'll be released in a couple of weeks. "Spot the icons" is the one after that if I remember rightly, then there's a few more questions to finish off with. The next lot of questions will be added onto the form at the same time as I post the questions on here, so again you'll just need to submit your answers through the form.

I check everyone who's entered's profiles to see if they're an IBGG or Pirate when I'm adding bonus points for any accepted deliveries.
