Social bookmarking - widgets and API type stuff

Right, I've never really been too into the whole social bookmarking thing. I've used Netvous for a while, but just to keep a copy of my bookmarks online, but it's not been updated for ages. These days I use Foxmarks to synchronise my bookmarks between my PC and laptop, and it works well, plus I can also access them from anywhere if need be.

At the moment though I'm working on a re-vamp of my personal website, and on my links page, rather than trying to cram my favourites on there, I have this vision of having some sort of widgety type thing on it where people can search my bookmarks on some social bookmarking thing.

This evening I signed up with Simpy, as they have such a widget that sits on your web page or blog and people can search your bookmarks. Would be great, except their site seems somewhat temperamental and despite me trying various tags I know my bookmarks use, their widget's coming up with no results, and their user community support is an awful Web 1.0 Yahoo mailing list.

Can anyone recommend a social bookmarking site that a) isn't so flaky, b) has some sort of decent support of whatever kind, and c) has some type of widgety thing that works? I really don't fancy wading my way through all of them trying them out... :(

Well, a site that I have had an account with for many years (I don't even know how long) is BackFlip. (my public folders)

Looking through their tools section, I did not find a widget type of tool that you described, but I have posed the question to them through their Help section.

I have to admit that I do not use it that much, especially after getting a new computer, or collecting a bunch of bookmarks on that new computer. But I always remember it when someone asks a question like yours. Maybe I need to create a IB folder that I can book, ark all those FAQs and Helps that are generated here and I can never remember where they are.

off on a tangent...
ListMixer is a slick TEMPORARY web bookmarker. After 30 days an un-clicked bookmark is dehydrated into pixie dust and shipped to Neverland.

I was using the open source software BBPS bookmark manager until I broke it with a PHP and/or MySQL upgrade a while back (me was tweaking something, broke BBPS, and then found out me monkey failed to backup me files). BBPS is not at vers 1.0 yet and it was last updated in 2005, so development looks dead.

On the plus side the software and YOUR DATA resides on your server. Me and me monkey like to control me own data.

Check out del.icio.us and ma.gnolia.com

They’re the two best I’ve seen for social network bookmarking.

del.icio.us is the most used Web 2.0 page for bookmarking.

Thanks for the advice guys. I've ended going with del.icio.us - their tag roll and link roll fit in quite nicely with what I wanted to do. I'm having a slight problem at the moment searching my bookmarks (I can search everyone else's, just not my own - lol!) but their support's looking into it for me. The editing of tags and such like is a lot easier with del.icio.us than with Simpy, so hopefully it'll work okay.

@iQon - thanks for that - I might have to take a look at that - I do like to be in control of my own data wherever possible
