Play PackRat on Facebook: our feverishly addictive new game

Any Wii Fans?

I've been in the market now for a few weeks for a couple of new games. Excite Truck and SSX Blur are two that have caught my eye.

Anyone have any reviews they'd like to share? I'd like to hear them, good and bad, before I spend the money ;)

I'd be a fan if I could actually find a unit to purchase! I've had the opportunity to play it once an enjoyed it very much, but I am a bit partial to Nintendo.

I haven't played Excite Trucks so far, but I have to say that SSX Blur is the best game for the Wii so far.

I've played Super Monkey Ball BB, Red Steel, Zelda and Wario Ware, but none of them is balanced so well and has such great controls.

The thing with SSX Blur is, you'll bite your head off at first, cause it is damn hard to do the Ubertricks or beat the other guys in races. But after some time, you'll catch up, which is total fun.

I can only recommend SSX Blur wouldn't miss that one.

Once you play the Wii, you'll wonder why games haven't worked that way forever.

- Wii Sports: it is impossible to get tired of this game. Though it's very possible to get tired playing this game.

- Channels: these add a surprising amount of value to the system. Every one takes something ordinary and turns into something much more fun than you would have expected. There are whole websites built around the Mii sharing feature alone.

- Other games: even after 2+ months, I don't feel the need to branch out beyond Wii Sports and Wii Play. However, all of the following are supposed to be worthwhile: SSX Blur, Godfather: Blackhand Edition, Sonic and the Secret Rings, Rayman: Raving Rabbids, and Super Paper Mario.

- I didn't care for Zelda: Twilight Princess. I got about 14 hours in and decided to exchange it for Wii Play; and I'm still happy with that decision. I found it beautiful, but a bit boring. I am probably in the minority on that opinion.

To sum up, the Wii is pure fun through and through. You won't regret getting one, but you'll need to be diligent in calling around to your local stores if you're going to scrounge one up.

I think my avatar says it all! Santa bought it for the kids, but Mrs. Claus is enjoying it immensely. Mostly, I play wii sports--boxing is a workout! Great games for all ages. Just creating new miis is amusing. I've played Zelda just a few hours, but my teen daughter loves it. Probably will get wii play soon.

I *heart* the Wii... if only I could find one in a store around here, or even better, find one online that wouldn't cost me two months salary. It's a game console -- not a diamond engagement ring!

Oh, and they just released ActRaiser on the Virtual Console today. My credit card is already wiggling out of the wallet for that one.

I'm playing a bit of SSX Blur right now as well. I've played SSX since its inception on the PS2, and the Wii version takes some getting used to... but I'm catching on.

Still love Wii Sports Tennis a lot.

Wii play = Awesome. Especially with the free wiimote.
SSX Blur = Infuriating. I just couldn't deal with the new controls.
I'm looking forward to Super Paper Mario with great anticipation.

WiiSports - owns my soul. I <3>t played it myself but it looks fun.

Very much looking forward to Super Paper Mario, Mario Galaxy and Mario Party 8!

Hoshichan on Apr 13, 2007

...That was strange.

Try again:
WiiSports - owns my soul. I heart Bowling.
WiiPlay - a blast to play, can't wait to own it.
Zelda - pretty, pretty Link. I mean, GRAPHICS. Pretty GRAPHICS.
Elebits - I haven't played it myself but it looks fun.

[see above]

extrarice on Apr 13, 2007

Elebits is pretty fun. And you can't go wrong with the Metal Slug Anniversary Collection. WiiPlay is a lot of fun - not worth the price by itself, but you get a free wiimote with it.

extrarice on Apr 13, 2007

(bah, double-post, sorry)
BTW, you'll want a Wavebird or a Cube controller for Metal Slug Anniversary. The Wiimote control systems SNK designed for it are not that great.

Paper Mario is super funtastic! ..according to my man. He says its his second favorite Mario game, next to Mario world. We also have the GC version of paper mario and he says the new wii version is much more fun. I watched him play for a few minutes and omg you get tiny pixelated Marios that follow you around and help. xD
He also enjoyed Zelda a lot. These are the only two games, other than wii sports, that we have.

@iconmaster: links to the mii sites please? ^.^

The wii looks rad - unfortunately I havent had the chance to play it yet. Maybe next christmas I'll feel feisty enough to pick it up. It seems to me that you could exclusively play wii sports and be quite happy with the console, more of an "entertainment system" than a "video game console". However, I am a Zelda fan, still play it on my Game Cube, and think there are some other games I would be interested in seeing the gameplay for... Hell, I still love mario kart on my Nin64.

For video games, the xbox 360 will always remain nearest and dearest to my heart.. I think the xbox live system is tops, the games I've played have been phenomenal, the controller setup is easy to use, etc. etc. etc.. :Þ

Thank you! :D

computerjoe on Apr 13, 2007

SSX Blur is great fun but I find it a little hard to control.

I personally love Wii Sports (besides Wii Boxing) and Wii Play (well at least some of the games on it!). The reason for this is because they are designed for the Wii instead of just been ported over.

rajr19 on Apr 13, 2007

i've been looking but can't find one

my birthday is in 6 days though so my parents might have bought some

rajr19 on Apr 13, 2007

360mcclure on Apr 17, 2007

i love to play wii sports golf too. does anyone have any review for the Tiger Woods game? I can't see why it would be less than *par* ;)

FunkyMunky on Apr 17, 2007

I just got the Wii a couple weeks ago and ended up picking up SSX Blur as my first game. I first played the SSX series on my brothers PS2 and enjoyed it enough to get SSX3 for the Cube. It's always been a fun game that you can pick up and play for short periods of time so I thought it would be a good game to get for the Wii. I must admit it does take a couple tries to get used to the controls but by my third time playing it.. it felt natural. Better than on a regular controller in fact. I'm well on my way to finishing Peak 3 now and would have to say its the best game of the series. A word of advice for anyone who picks up this game though... press and release A on the wiimote to jump as apposed to poping the wiimote up like the tutorials recommend (makes things a lot easier).

I went and FINALLY picked up Excite Truck the other day. It is awesome! I highly recommend anyone to buy it...if you like racing games. The graphics are amazing ;)

samkarn on Jun 26, 2007

I have a Wii and love it! I also had a Game cube before that, and since GC games work on Wii, let me tell you, you can get some out-of-this-world fabulous GC games to play on your wii that will be good and cheap since they are a bit old. Check out:

Resident Evil 4
Beyond Good and Evil
Eternal Darkness
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Please see this blog forum entry on sharing wii console code info to swap miis with other IB friends.

For those of you who can't find yourself a Wii in the UK then try this website out. I actually (ahem) bought 6 Wii's using it by subscribing to the email notification ...

tommythewolfboy on Jun 26, 2007

As for games, Wii Sports (Tennis, Golf esp'), John Madden's (absolutely fab!) and Wii Play (Tank game esp') are all great fun.
I've also enjoyed downloading some of my favourite old retro games - Toe Jam & Earl in particular and Ghouls and Ghosts :D
